As three more countries have revealed their votes for the OGAE Poll 2017, Italy’s lead strengthens, with only Belgium looking like a potential contender to grab the top spot. It’s also good news for Latvia and Ireland — they each received their first lot of points, ensuring each a place on the scoreboard.

First was OGAE Netherlands, who mostly followed the status quo. Their 12 points went to fan favourite Italy, their ten points to Belgium and their eight points to Estonia. The Netherlands did break from convention by awarding Austria a point, making the Netherlands just the third country to give points to “Running on Air”.

Next was OGAE Spain. Their top scores again went to the big favourites. Twelve points to Italy, ten points to Belgium and eight points to Sweden. Spain was also feeling the Irish love and awarded Brendan Murray his first lot of points. It might just have been two points, but it’s enough to ensure a place for Ireland on the scoreboard.

And finally OGAE Lithuania also revealed their votes and things were a little different. While Lithuania’s 12 points went to Italy, their ten points went to Norway and their eight points went to neighbouring Latvia. This ensured that Triana Park also had a place on the scoreboard. Notably, Lithuania had no points to give to fan favourites France and Estonia.

The biggest change on the overall scoreboard is the jump of Norway from 18th to 13th place.

Italy won’t win we are going to get a few dark horses fighting it out, I know your all going to jump on me because I think Italy is overrated and not my type of song but sorry I can’t help it as it totally doesn’t deserve all the hype it’s getting, why is it okay that those who love Italy are allowed to criticise other songs but no ones allowed to criticise Italy and like other songs, Austria, UK , Finland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Portugal, Romanian, Belarus, France or Ireland should win

The Italy song is pretty popular it seems. It sounds almost exactly the same live and the staging elevates it.
Somebody is going to have to do something really special with their performance to prevent it from winning.

I’m getting nervous about Italy. He’s favorite, leads OGAE, is seems to me TOO GOOD! He’s my winner and I should be happy, but I can’t. He absolutly deserve this trophy but I’m afraid that in the end jury (or televotes) will ruin him and he will not win 🙁

I think he has a damn good shot with both the jury and televote. It’s a well-written, radio-friendly song by a strong performer, and the public will love the gorilla.

People give way to much credit over OGAE voting and overanalyze it. It’s not prediction in any way, nor is it that complicated.
It’s just a bunch of fans voting for the songs they like. Doesn’t make it 100% sure the result will be like this. As we know rehersal do tend to change things up. And we also know majority of fans don’t vote in the actual contest.

So just because OGAE THINKS” this is the best doesnt mean IT WILL be the best

Unlike you I actually don’t give a thought to what OGAE thinks, nor do I go out of my way to defend such a trivial thing. I stopped caring somewhere around 2012. I never called it “super realistic”, nor will I ever call it that. Don’t make up words here..
Who wins wins, and that’s that. That’s the result that matters, not some fan voting As for Sweden, I sit, cheer at Robin, getting excited for every point we get, and accept the result.
Though I don’t think it will be a bad result this year..

People tend to see what they want to see. They easily get distracted… 2016 is no year to compare with, it was a “political” year… Or agenda year that happens regularly on cycle (see Conchita…). This is much probably the “certainty” year, everything turns in its favour. The cycling wheel of esc strongly suggest this. Loreen 2012 and Rybak 2009 were already the undisputed winners from the first moment they put their feet on national finale stages. Just like Gabbani. This is a matter of fact, you like it or not I don’t care because I know I’m right and… Read more »

Couldn’t agree more. People are underestimating Portugal more than it should. Just look at the ratio likes/dislikes in the official channel of Eurovision and you can see how praised and consecrated has been the song and the sincerity of Salvador. There’s already a solid fan base which definitely increases chances. Not to mention that people look at this song as a nostalgic return to a once more focused Eurovision on music and less on LEDs/pyrotechnics. For me, Portugal will be an underdog. I’ve been predicting a type of Gulazzi classification in the jury. Music experts are falling in love with… Read more »

Very interesting analysis. As much I like my home country’s entry this year (for once!), I don’t think Portugal is a serious contender for victory. Apparently the staging will be super simple and minimalist, which will be a good contrast and they are trying to put the message of the song across. But the language barrier is too striking, it is not what you expect from Eurovision in our days, it has not a surprising factor, and most importantly, you need to have a helping hand from neighbourly and friendly voters and jury, which Portugal just doesn’t have much…

Are you so sure? 🙂 I’m starting to “worry” about Portugal (as an Italian)… You’re gonna have fellow voters, I’m quite sure. Checking forums, esc medias and my very own friends, I found out Italian people (as far as I know French and Spanish too, the latter pretending Sobral is their own singer instead of Navarro, ah ah) are very-very prone, for the most part, to like your entry (home country excluded). Spending a huge amount of good words for it. And I’ve noticed mediterranean countries (Portugal included) often spend their preference on Italy, so… Relative juries have nothing much… Read more »

Hi Elle. Thanks a lot for that info. That is great to know. That would be great, of course, for Portugal. Apparently in 1969 everybody thought Portugal would win and the story goes that every artist apologised to Simone d’Oliveira for their respective country not giving any points. And there other stories like that. I hope history won’t repeat itself. So we are being super cautious. I would super super happy if Italian wins. I wouldn’t miss ESC in Italy for anything in the world

The Eurovision winner has been in the OGAE top 5 seven times in the last ten years (they only missed Dima Bilan, Azerbaijan and Jamala). So the OGAE top 5 is actually a pretty good indicator: there’s a good chance the winner is in there.

Of course the OGAE ranking is not the exact same as the Eurovision ranking but duh… Same for the bookies, the press awards, the online polls, the Wiwi jury, etc. Only Eurovision counts, that doesn’t mean other rankings are useless.

Italy – 2nd, maybe
Belgium – will hardly pass the semifinal
Sweden – top 10, between 7-10
France – top 5
Estonia – places 6-15

Even if the OGAE misses the Eurovision winner this year, they will still have spotted the winner 7 times out of 11 contests. I wouldn’t call that “pointless”. 😉

The poll should be taken as what it is: fan clubs all over Europe voting for the songs they like. Nothing more, nothing less.

The thing that annoys me is that people on here are taking it as fact that Italy will win just because OGAE say so, when most eurovision fans have a very specific taste in music plus I think every year it get increasingly harder to predict a winner when tastes change in the major public and generally become more varied.

I disagree, OGAE is made by Eurovision fans. During Eurovision song contest the televoters (the diaspora, particular) are not like the usual Eurovision fans. They vote for their countries, like it should be…. Look at Poland 2016, Turkey 2010 and so on… This OGAE chart is not like a trend, whoever is well ranked is necessary the winners. Amir of France ended up on #6 last year… San Marino and Israel didn’t pass the semifinal in 2013/2014… Same about Iceland (last year), she was well ranked (top 5) but missed the final. So I wouldn’t count on OGAE that much….… Read more »

It’s not that he has “weak vocals”, it’s that they are a bit grating to listen to and the timbre of his voice isn’t that smooth. In terms of hitting the notes and his pitch, that’s perfectly fine.

Obviously next to Lindita and Anja (as well as others like Lucie, Nathan, Isaiah etc, but Lindita and Anja especially) your vocals are going to be called into question, but Francesco holds his own. This year will actually be interesting in terms of the jury because the most hyped songs don’t necessarily have the best singers.

Denis

We don’t know how the juries vill vote. We haven’t seen any actual performance yet, so to say it’s technically near perfect is wrong. We won’t know how good it is until we actually see it and the rehersal. Then we get a clue as how good it will be. The juries base their voting on what they see then and there

I think Italy may be the France of 2016, really popular amongst people but falls flat with Juries. This will come down to staging and I don’t think Italy can do much more, your going to get what you’ve already been given (Dancing Ape and LED’s) and that will loose the “WOW” points.

Italy will certainly win OGAE and hopefully ESC too! I am happy Ireland finally scores points. 😉

This is bad news for Greece. If the gays dont even like this song – then its going to flop in Kiev

OGAE are all gay? 😮
I didn’t know… 😀

I’m surprised the Netherlands and Greece still haven’t received a single point from the OGAE. Neither song are great but I was still expecting a couple of points here and there. That’s not a good sign for May 13!

Well how accurate is this OGAE prediction?

It shouldn’t be taken seriously. It doesn’t mean these songs will win, just that they have a good chance to do well and maybe win. It’s only Another way of pinpointing the favourites

Sometimes they nail it to a tee, like with Euphoria or Only Teardrops. Sometimes they are way off, like how 1944 got a 9th place with OGAE. However, I don’t think an entry placing low with OGAE has ever won. So, if UK (fingers crossed) or Iceland wins, it would be a precedant.

It’s not a prediction as far as I understand. They vote for what they like. Nordic countries seem to do exceedingly well in their polls. Winners (real result): 2007: Serbia (1st), 2008: Sweden (18th), 2009: Norway (1st), 2010: Denmark (4th), 2011: Hungary (22nd), 2012: Sweden (1st), 2013: Denmark (1st), 2014: Sweden (3rd), 2015: Italy (3rd), 2016: France (6th).

Netherlands (Douwe Bob) received ZERO points last year from OGAE and he still came 11th in the grand final with 153 points!

If Portugal and Finland are doing this great with this fans.. I can’t imagine how well they will do with a wider audience. It’s looking good for both 🙂

And it looks Baltics will love Norway at Esc cause it’s modern and cool.

Wise comment!
I recall that in the final result, the OGAE gave the 9th place to Ukraine:

1st França – 425 points

9th Ukraine – 88 points

silly Netherlands with those pathetic scores, here in holland everyone is so arrogant about O’G3NE, and these girls are going to use Visuals of their sick mother in the staging, that’s really low and so disgusting yuk

This is all Avrotros fault. We knew this was going to happen. I would have never chosen these boring girls.

Dutch people deserve the best and not such a bad entry.

yeah i know, but seriously going to use your sick mom for sympathy, that is so pathetic

i would’ve chosen Maan, who i am a huge fan of, lovely voice with the ballads 🙂

Yes. That’s a dirty move.
I guess they are desperate cause they know they will struggle to qualify.
I don’t see it working tbh.

Maan was a better choice yes.

@anonymous91
Where did you read or hear that Og3ne will use visuals from their sick mom?
Where is the source where i can read that?
And by the way Maan would be a terrible choice, no charisma no stage presence and no voice at all..

as much as i hate predictability, i hope italy wins in a landslide because we need a decisive winner for once to avoid any controversy.

Yes. I think the same. So does Ebu.. they don’t want more controversies for sure.

We need a winner that would win by any system (like Rybak, Lena, Loreen or Conchita)

This won’t be that year. I doubt Italy would win both juries and tele-voters, if they even win.

We have a top 5. The order of places 4 and 5 may change but it the current five countries will make up the final OGAE top five.

The point difference betweenness Estonia and Bulgaria is almost double. Realistically, there’s no chance anyone’s gonna catch up.

Italy looks unstoppable on this poll. The fans will absolutely love it in Kiev and the hall will become deafening when it comes to Nameste Ale!

Well we have been screaming for “one of the old countries” to win for years. Finally it happened to Germany in 2010 and now 7 years later it may happen again. Italy also deserves it in my opinion with winning televote and being so close. Rome would be super cool and noone would be upset. Go Italy 🙂
