She’s the winner of The Voice of Australia and has one of the biggest voices of the year. And on Tuesday Denmark’s Anja Nissen sent seismic waves through the International Exhibition Centre as she belted out another pitch-perfect performance of “Where I Am”.
Vocally she was as sound as ever, hitting note after note and run-through after run-through. The woman’s voice does not waver.
If you watched her performance at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, then you’ll know what went down today in Kyiv. Once again she worked an LED that moved between solid red, orange and blue. But this was that on steroids as the stage is bigger and bolder. The screens also featured digital bursts which looked like spiralling pyro. That was just a tease for the shower of pyro that falls when she reaches one of her many climaxes in the song.
Anja wasn’t wearing her stage costume today, but her casual wear suggests that she’ll be abandoning her iconic red dress. She wore billowing trousers and threw herself onto her knees, suggesting that she’ll wear something that will protect her modesty.

The Wiwi guys were brutal about this. They speak of talent show contest-style songs as if it is an insult. Well, news flash. It is the Eurovision song contest! Being contemporary and radio-friendly isn’t enough. She kills this. She’s qualifying.
Anja is gorgeous, her song is great and I think she can win. Oh and wear that red dress!!!! Nothing like a girl reppin in her national colours! #MarryMeAnja
I don’t know what to say here!
At first, I really liked the song, when it won MDGP in Denmark! Since then, I’ve heard it a couple of times, and it’s faded! However, Anja is an amazing singer!
I liked they changed the background a little from MDGP cause I wasn’t a fan of all this orange “sun”! Now it seems minimal and normally at the end the colours become more tense!
Indifferent!
For me this entry is too painful. Too much screaming
There is a difference between screaming and SANGING, and she sang that song out of the park. This song (France+Sweden) this year I have on permanent repeat She has a R&B vibe to her and that will be an edge for her to qualify.
The voice and staging will lift this average song. With a lesser singer this wouldn’t qualify.
My issue with Denmark’s entry this year is a total lack of cohesiveness and artistic value. The lyrics have nothing to do with the music, the whole song has no connection to the staging and Anja just belts “Where I Am” out with no distinctive emotional approach. Everything’s just there to be loud and big and spectacular.
Denmark has sometimes done well with a rather superficial approach (most notably in 2010) but I don’t expect to see Anja in the final.
Vocally great but the staging is bland!
wiwibloggs, share this! it’s AMAZING!
