Earlier this year, Tijana Bogicevic was internally selected by the Serbian Broadcaster to represent them at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv with the song “In Too Deep”. It’s an upbeat pop song with a modern electronic arrangement. But Tijana has shown that there’s a lot more to the song — and her — with new versions.

Tijana previously re-worked her entry into a love duet with her husband, singer Mark Robertson. But that’s not all.

This week, Tijana is building momentum by releasing two acoustic versions of her Eurovision entry “In Too Deep” — one in English, the other in her native language, Serbian. Stripped back and stirring, both versions show off her instantly recognisable vocals whilst offering further proof that Serbia chose the right artist.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Tijana explains:

A fun fact about me is that I am actually a live singer. My whole career is based on music that has a live sound. I sing in all kinds of configurations including solo, duos, trios, full band with rhythm section, and my all time favourite which is singing with a big band brass orchestra. On YouTube, you’ll find many cover songs of me with some of them clocking over a million views.

Eurovision is me stepping into a wider territory, but these acoustic live versions are very much within my comfort zone.  I knew from the moment I was paired with  “In Too Deep” that I would put my personal stamp on it. Eurovision is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I want listeners to connect with all of me. Through music, I am able to offer a window into my other musical styles with these acoustic versions. Being a proud Serbian, I wanted to connect the song with my heritage as well.”

The live instruments lend an authentic sound to the Serbian version, and create an emotional atmosphere with a piano and cello. The live English version allows Tijana’s voice to shine brighter, and hone in deeper emotions with the lyrics.

What a beautiful vocal this is! Songs in non-English languages should definitely be brought back more.
