The second rehearsals for Semi-Final 2 kicked off on Friday morning with Serbia’s Tijana Bogicecivc, Austria’s Nathan Trent and FYR Macedonia’s Jana Burceska. What did they fix and what remains broken? Let’s have a look.

Serbia: Tijana Bogicevic with “In Too Deep”

Austria — Nathan Trent, “Running on Air”

Pump up the smoke, lower the camera, and watch your “running on air” effect take flight! That’s exactly what Nathan did during his second rehearsal, ending his show with a much more convincing visual effect. The perspex is still slightly visible to those who know the trick. But owing to brighter light beamed onto the clouds the illusion works much better. As ever Nathan was charming and energetic, and he seemed to have more fun climbing and swinging from his crescent moon.

FYR Macedonia — Jana Burceska, “Dance Alone”

During her first rehearsal earlier in the week Jana served sass and sauciness, popping and locking and nailing the famous slut drop. Some called it too provocative. WhATevEr! Today Jana dropped it like it was hot yet again, but she did so in her stage clothes, which consist of knee-high boots, shiny black bottoms, and a zip-up top with a very plunging neckline. The frills on her shoulders and bottom gave this a high-end slapper-showgirl feel.

Another day, another Macedonian video under which the Greeks have a field day. Sad. On a positive note, she is really good sounding. And the camera work does her justice + we may expect the rest of it to look like Poli’s from last year. So, this is OK. I really like the song and I hope that it will be given a good spot in the final ranking. About other things now – I’ve noticed that EVERYONE has more or less TERRIBLE camera work with very wide shots. Plus, the number of cameras is somehow limited, even tho there… Read more »

Serbia: I really like the song… but the performance is just bland! Nothing happens! And I don’t really like Tijana’s dress.

Austria: I really enjoyed this! We were able to warch the whole performance and it was great! The whole vibe is good and Nathan is moving everywhere! He’s so energetic!

FUR. Macedonia: This was underwhelming! I’m not a huge fan of the song but it’s current and cachy! And they let it in its fate! The background seems good but nothing really happens!

It is nice to see that almost every fan and every Eurovision site believes in Nathan Trent, but quite strange to see that wiwibloggs doesn’t.

But Nathan climbed to 8th qualifier at oddschecker anyways and I am sure he will be Top 4 in his semifinal in the end. Only competition comes from Netherlands, Romania and Hungary.

I am very optimistic that Nathan will qualify despite the bad starting slot. With a better slot in the finals even a left hand side result on the scoreboard is possible.

Jana has been the biggest grower for me so far. Still not a fan of the choreography, but it was much tighter and more on point today.

Jana’s views on the official Eurovision channel from the Exclusive footage suggest she will do amazingly well with the public.

She has 12.000+ views in an hour while Armenia has 14.000+ in 4 hours.

So yeah, I am satisfied with her confidence and her dress.

Love Austria. It is one of the best fell good songs and I hope we will see him in the final. Macedonia have improved on their first rehearsal but still nowhere near what I thought it would be (also hate her dress) and Serbia was just awful, one of the poorest vocals I have heard so far. Right now I would still give Macedonia a chance but I can’t see Serbia going to the final

Serbia
She needs to work on her voice control which is quite inconsistent. Am I the only one that got my eardrums cut deep when shing sings “deep”?

Austria
Nathan is at his best when he gets to run around the stage. We got to see some of that more would have helped Austria’s chances even more.

FYR Macedonia
FYR Macedonia serves the main course before the apetizer. Unfortunately for them, the aftertaste of the main course erodes the apetizer and makes it underwhelming. Few successful hits begin with a chorus and it is with good reasons.

I’m disappointed in Serbia!!!! It had so much potential with such a great song! 🙁 maybe Serbia will miss out on the final.

2. Macedonia (much better than first rehearsal)
3. Serbia (awful!)

Serbia sounded like a train wreck, I really hope they won’t qualify, but I fear they will.
Austria was solid.
FYROM was disappointing, for me it doesn’t work on that huge stage.

Excuse me, but i don’t even want to start discussing how it’s not Tijana’s fault that the backing vocals are pure garbage and that that is the reason why it sounds “awful” on the official Eurovision Song Contest channel. Maybe you should be a bit more realistic with your narrow opinion, considering it is not backed up with facts rather the hatred since you “hope” she won’t qualify. You have a right to express what is true, it did sound completely unstable, but Tijana’s voice could not have been heard from the shouting of the backing vocalists. It is saddening… Read more »

I notice the Greeks have been the most hateful toward Tijana on youtube for some reason.

Serbia:

I don’t think that Serbia will qualify this year 🙁 . The staging makes the song appear even cheaper than it is. The dancer is weird, too,

Austria:

I want Austria to make the final. It’s a very sweet, catchy entry and the staging is wonderful, it has just the right amount of “cheese”.

Macedonia:

I still think that the staging is very good because it reflects the “feel” of the song. Well done, Macedonia deserves to be in the final.

Well done, Nathan! His performance is flawless. Definitely deserves final!
Jana and Tijana were kinda better this time, but Tijana’s dress omg.. tragic, what’s that, curtain?

See all 5 today (Malta and Romania are on their YT page), here’s my rankings:

1. Romania (I wanna see the confetti)
2. Austria (he’s too adorable)
3. Malta (just wow! She must wear that dress and keep that makeup because she looked stunning! Definitely play the spoiler.)
4. Macedonia (way better today than Tuesday, might have a shot)
5. Serbia (she needs to fire her backup singer. It’s really bad on the Eurovision preview video)

Well done Nathan (Austria) and Jana (Rep. of Macedonia)! Both of these performances really worked for me.

Jana particularly looks great and is getting better vocally – she gives me Poli Genova vibes. It’s unfortunate that the sad end to the song has been cut though – I think this is an oversight.

As for Serbia, hmmm. It’s okay. I wonder what happened to the “hoop on wires” from the video – it might be in the LEDs though; will see next week.

And Nathan is totally awesome; did I mention that? 😀

Oh yes he is. This is probably the 12th time I’ve mentioned this, but I will vote for him in the semi. Who are you voting for, if that’s okay to ask? (so many great acts to choose from.)

Hi Colin. I’m in UK so we are voting only in SF1 this year. (We can’t vote in SF2) Definitely one of my votes will go to Finland, without question. The box is open after that. I would say that Belgium, Azerbaijan and Poland all could have my votes, but this could change on the night. I also like Albania and Armenia this year, from SF1.

Cool. 😉 I’d also vote for Finland if my country were in Semi-final 1. I also root for all countries you mentioned to make the cut.

I will probably also cast a seconf vote (maybe even third), but I am waiting to see who will make the greatest impact. I am definitely considering Macedonia, Ireland, Belarus, Norway, Switzerland and Malta, but who knows who will shine the brightest.

They don’t have the hoop because the Ukrainian hosts told them they couldn’t accommodate it. That seems strange to me, as it would be an easy thing to just hang it from the rafters/roof or something.

Macedonia’s rehearsal is looking much better than the other day! Austria nailed it again, I think he’s going to qualify because that’s really a great performance. About Serbia… everything about it, song and performance, is so meh that I can’t see them in the final this time. I hope this teaches them that they should go back to their stunning traditional music.
