In his song he sings “We don’t have a thing to lose” and this poll is another thing he won’t be losing. Kristian Kostov from Bulgaria has emerged the favourite with wiwibloggs readers to take out top spot in tonight’s semi-final.

Back on March 18 we launched a poll asking who your favourites were leading up to tonight’s semi-final. The votes came in thick and fast, with a total of 30,374 votes cast across the 18 songs competing in tonight’s show. Kristian Kostov earned your highest praise, with 12.15% of the votes. Slayage personified!

Second place in the poll goes to Jana Burceska from FYR Macedonia. She sings of dancing alone but she is not alone! In fact, 2,726 people want to dance with the sultry songstress — that’s 8.97% of the vote. Her visually appealing LED screens and her innate ability to slut-drop has all of us hollering. Yaasss!

Receiving the bronze medal in our poll is the amazing Timebelle from Switzerland. A vision in lemon curd, Miruna and co have been nailing their fantastical performance all through this Eurovision season. Y’all do not want to pull the rug from underneath Timebelle, with 2,518 votes — 8.29% of the total — going to the land of cheese, army knives and hot cocoa.

Fourth place went to Ireland‘s Brendan Murray. His hot hair balloon is taking y’all to the sky, earning him 2,467 votes (8.12%). Rounding out the top five is Danish-Australian Anja Nissen representing Denmark. 2,402 votes later, she has found where she is and that is in fifth place, with 7.91% of the vote.

POLL RESULTS: WHO SHOULD WIN SEMI-FINAL TWO OF EUROVISION 2017?

  1. Bulgaria: Kristian Kostov, “Beautiful Mess” — 12.15% (3,689 votes)
  2. FYR Macedonia: Jana Burceska, “Dance Alone” — 8.97% (2,726 votes)
  3. Switzerland: Timebelle, “Apollo” — 8.29% (2,518 votes)
  4. Ireland: Brendan Murray, “Dying To Try” — 8.12% (2,467 votes)
  5. Denmark: Anja Nissen, “Where I Am” — 7.91% (2,402 votes)
  6. Romania: Illinca ft. Alex Florea, “Yodel It!” — 7.66% (2,328 votes)
  7. Netherlands: OG3NE, “Lights and Shadows” — 6.1% (1,854 votes)
  8. Estonia: Koit Toome & Laura, “Verona” — 5.64% (1,714 votes)
  9. Israel: Imri Ziv, “I Feel Alive” — 5.39% (1,637 votes)
  10. Serbia: Tijana Bogicevic, “In Too Deep” — 5.17% (1,569 votes)
  11. Hungary: Joci Papai, “Origo” — 4.69% (1,425 votes)
  12. Norway: JOWST, “Grab The Moment” — 3.83% (1,164 votes)
  13. Belarus: NAVIBAND, “Story Of My Life” — 3.71% (1,128 votes)
  14. Austria: Nathan Trent, “Running On Air” — 3.52% (1,070 votes)
  15. Russia: Julia Samoylova, “Flame Is Burning” – 2.44% (742 votes)
  16. San Marino: Valentina Monnetta & Jimmie Wilson, “Spirit of the Night” — 1.81% (550 votes)
  17. Croatia: Jacques Houdek, “My Friend” — 1.77% (538 votes)
  18. Malta: Claudia Faniello, “Breathlessly” — 1.6% (485 votes)
  19. Lithuania: Fusedmarc, “Rain of Revolution” — 1.21% (368 votes)

Based on the results, our readers think that Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia, Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, Romania, Netherlands, Estonia, Israel and Serbia will qualify tonight. That would mean an exit for Hungary, Norway, Belarus, Austria, San Marino, Croatia, Malta and Lithuania.

What do you think of the poll results? Do you think that Bulgaria can make a beautiful mess of this semi-final? Will Jana Burceska dance alone all the way to the final? And will any of the bottom eight acts still qualify? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!

I don’t think that Bulgaria will win this semi-final. Maybe it will be first with the juries, but I really don’t see that song gaining so much in televote. I don’t really think they will be top 5 with the televoting to be sincere. In my opinion Estonia is favourite to win it, because I see it top 3 with both the televote and the juries. Romania will also most probably be on top, mabe even first with the televote, it’s totally unpredictable how the juries will see it though. It could be a middle standing there. And as a… Read more »

Predicting this semi is giving me a headache, especially after Tuesday’s results. All I know is that Bulgaria and Romania are safe while San Marino (and probably Lithuania) will go home.
And I’m REALLY hoping for a qualification for us (Switzerland) and Belarus.

(Sorry for the cross posting) In Semi-final I predicted 8/10. But this Semi is more difficult for me to predict because the overall quality is very much balanced in general. These are the ones who will qualify in my opinion: – Serbia: The song is strong, contemporary, well delivered and Serbia benefits from bloc voting and diaspora. – Romania – no comments – Netherlands – That has grown so much. The studio version is very average at best, but the girls completely transform it in the life performance. Will appeal to the nostalgic audiences of the nineties sounds. My guess… Read more »

Ha! I see again an interesting characteristic about the Bulgarian entry in the term of getting the extremes together! Your expression: – Bulgaria – I think this song will be the consensus between West and East, young and old, jury and televote. My bet to win the Semi and a strong contender to will the Grand Final. I am still not convinced of his vocals towards the end, but hey, if Isiah and Blanch made it, then Kristian will slay. Definite qualifiers – Romania, Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia: only fails if there’s a disaster (but that doesn’t explain what went wrong with Finland on Tuesday night) Likely qualifier – Austria (I originally thought the song was boring but Nathan brings it to life with his enthusiasm) Possible qualifiers – Croatia (since rehearsals I’m more certain its a likely qualifier at the expense of Macedonia), Norway (its a bit different) Belarus (viewers seeing it for the first time are going to love it) Israel (more fun songs usually do well). I realise that I have 11 above (not including Macedonia)… Read more »

The greek media are reporting that greek entry was “destroyed” by the ukrainians because nothing of what fokas had thought could be done and also because, they “didnt like him” because he was directing Russia last year. I know that you try to stay positive but since malta and many other countries have faced severe problems with the production, you could right something about it.

Luckily poll results don`t matter and there are always some surprises. I think that only Bulgaria, Romania and Netherlands can be sure of their places in the final. I very much hope that Estonia gets into the final, too. They so deserve it! Such a beautiful staging, beautiful people in beautiful clothes, who can sing extremely well. And they have a great chemistry in a cool Estonian way! I love the Italian version of their song perhaps a little more but they so deserve to be in the final and in the Top 10. Just for the record, Nastya Petik, who won Junior Eurovision 2012 also won the following year Detskaya Novaya Volna and Ukraine did not have a problem sending her there… All these last minute attempts to sabotage Kristian’s chances are disgusting. Thankfully, Ukrainians understand all these nuances, so their voting will not be affected.

I will try to make an ‘objective’ (as much as I can) prediction on who will qualify tonight: 1. Bulgaria – 90% – A big fan-favorite, OGAE, You Tube, Wiwibloggs and press polls favorite + Will attract many votes which are usually going to Russia. 2. Romania – 85% – Romania is the country with the biggest diaspora in this semi and the only one with a 100% qualification for now. The song is different and cute, and Ilinca and Alex are great on stage. 3. The Netherlands – 70% – Girls have a tremeneous live, their voices are great… Read more »

Thank you. 🙂 I know the feeling of just disliking the song no matter what. For me, it’s Montenegro. It was so incredibly bad in the last semi. It set the bar so low, I don’t even know whether Lithuania could top it. But I guess they’ll try to anyway.

As for Estonia, I don’t find it to be a bad song at all, but they just don’t convey any connection in live; between them or with the audience. Their facial expressions show acting in love, not being in love, and that’s a huge difference.

Switzerland has been doing well on OGAE, Wiwi, ESCstats and ESCnation. Sure qualifier in all 4 polls.

It’s been doing well because it’s a great song. I am even considering giving it a vote. Along with Macedonia and Ireland, it deserves to return the country into the finals. I’m pretty tempted to think that certain people are angry on Romania just because they qulified every time. Lots of bad words for Romania last year too. Last year it was too retro, or too dramatic, a lot of accuses for no ‘happiness’ and ‘joy’. Now we find sth else: happiness and joy, but it’s cheap. It’s ok, next year you’ll find sth else to complain for. No words for Belarus, Macedonia, Montenegro??? Cause, with your logical elements, they’re making Eurovision a comedy either.

Battista

Yes, Romania’s recipee is pretty effective: make your country as sh*t as possible so that no one wants to live there, they all escape to other European countries and then you have a great diaspora to vote for your song.

Belarus is a joke too but at least this year they sent one of the best songs, same for Macedonia. Montenegro is a joke too. Are you happy, you have another country that is the shame of Europe?

Blah blah blah! Romania sent 2 very original songs in the last 4 years. That vampire was sth absolutely unique (sth like Croatia this year) but a little more sophisticated. Not sth that everyone would understand, of course. This year, again, it is a totally new combination of styles, old styles compounding modern music. Again, not for everyone, but is still sth remarkable. Too bad that last year we didn’t see Anton, who would have bring a great spectacle with his ‘Moment of Silence’. So, proud of Romania in the recent years, originality and different styles every single year. I… Read more »

Yes they are going to qualify, but they shouldn’t. It is a terrible service to the ESC and to European music I for, one, will have my toilet break during that song and will close all the doors not to listen to it.

Reactions from people like you are showing that the song is pretty good. The best things are the most hated, that’s a fact. You don’t hate sth unimportant. Well, all the hate for ‘Yodel It’ is beacause it is too loved by others. And one of the favourites.

Don’t we need funny acts in the final! It makes me smile. Do I think its good music? No.

What is good music? Blackbird? It doesn’t sing anymore because people don’t like it.

Let’s not exaggerate, I love ‘Blackbird’. It’s so unique, it is a shame that it didn’t qualify. I would have seen both ‘Yodel It’ and ‘Blackbird’ on a top spot in the final.

Ok, so this is my attempt at a prediction: Qualifiers 1) Bulgaria: The entry as a whole has kinda lost ist “spark” for me since I’ve seen the rehearsal videos, but I’m pretty sure that Bulgaria will make it to the final. 2) Norway: I think that Norway has the best package in this semi final. Vocals, staging, song – to me, it’s the most coherent conception. Might be the jury winner (of course, it might also be eliminated). 3) Ireland: When the song was first released, I didn’t think it would make it to the final. It’s still borderline,… Read more »

Remember Estonia last year? Who would have though they might receive less points than Moldova, San Marino and Montenegro? Melanie René received less points than San Marino and Portugal in 2015, something which had not been expected as well. Every prediction is a wild guess… in recent years, the last places in the semi finals were almost always predicted incorrectly so who knows what’s going to happen? I don’t – but you don’t either. 😉

I don’t see a lot of countries supporting Lithuania (only Estonia? maybe part of Belarus), San Marino is left alone without Italy, and Croatia has strong competitors within the Balkans, which will disperse the votes.
Switzerland will receive points from Romania and will also get the attention of part of the romanian diaspora. Neighbouring Austria, Germany and France are also voting in this semifinal.
The last place will be occupied by the lonliest country.

I remember “Play” and I still cry for how it went. 🙁

Yeah, in the last years, the last song tends to be a nice one, just left behind for the lack of support. This year, it’s probably the same. I guess it’s more probable that Slovenia or Albania ended-up last in the first semi than Montenegro did. I assume Lithuania isn’t going to qualify, but it’s nice songs like Switzerland, Macedonia, Malta or Ireland that could either qualify or end-up last.

Not to mention that historically Malta awards points to Switzerland.

The last time Malta was able to vote for Switzerland was in 2015 and they gave 0 points. 🙂

Croatia will most probably qualify, I don’t think Switzerland will. While Lithuania could get more points than Switzerland through the televote. Personally I really like the Swiss’ song, but it lacks sth to steal the attention. I think it will get lost between many other entries.

I couldn’t have given a better summary – totally agree! Minor point – I would swap Malta for Israel on pure vocals (This Imri-guy is not a vocalist – he’s terribly out of tune at times – lady from Malta has a stunning voice – and looks stunning!)

The staging of Switzerland is different and deserves some attention. Everybody this year is going with the same dramatic staging and lights, dark-White costumes, or red for some. Switzerland is definitely out of the bunch. The visual effect stands out from the other 17 acts of the semifinal. I do believe it is definitely a plus and will bring some additional points for a well deserved qualification!

If only NL had a better song!

I’m 100% sure the execution will be flawless, but the song is just so incredibly mediocre..

‘What’s with the universe, why youuuuu’ just makes me cringe. (Though they sing it beautifully)

I didn’t realize this until now, but the chord progression in Beautiful Mess is genius and unique! Try to just listen to the guitar. It feels like they’re really trying to convey the feeling of trying to love the world despite the mess it is.

Indeed, especially in the Chorus.
I have played this one on the piano, for my reviews. Its harmonic structure certainly does define its “beautiful mess” very well. 🙂

As long as Austria, the Netherlands, Norway and Malta get a place in the final – who cares about the rest! Just keep Denmark out of it! SCREAMING vocalist and boring and generic song!

This is a very difficult Semi Final 2, in which no-one is guaranteed a place in the final. I like 17 out of the 18 songs, which means that I’m going to lose 7 songs that I like. I can’t even vote in this Semi either! 🙁
Good luck to everyone.

I would agree. 17 songs are fine. Lithuania is a mess. But just to be more detailed, I would also say San Marino, while enjoyable, just isn’t camp enough to make a cut and Serbia is overall in the middle of the road. Hungary has an interesting song, but it’s just not my taste. Israel’s song is somewhat typical party song, but a lively performance could elevate it. Among other 13, everyone would deserve a shot at qualification.

It’s an insanely tough semi. I’d honestly like to see 12 or 13 of these make it, booting Spain and Germany and Ukraine. Whoever gets in at 10th needs to thank Russia for withdrawing, because Russia absolutely would have made the Final if it were in the semi.

Semi 2 is so tough to call I think Bulgaria, Romania and Netherlands are they only assured qualifiers. The other seven places I hope go to: Norway, Austria, Estonia, Belarus, Hungary, Ireland and Macedonia but I cannnot rule out Serbia, Croatia, Israel, Denmark sneaking through

Hungary and Croatia instead of Ireland and Switzerland, rest of the top is ok. If Bulgaria is so underwhelming as it seems it was in past live singing events there will not be a clear winner. It is a much more messy semifinal than it was the first one.
