Kallay Saunders Band BSW Elveszek 2017 Eurovision 2014

At the weekend, Joci Pápai gave Hungary it’s best Eurovision result since 2014. Coming eight in the grand final, he fell just short of matching András Kállay-Saunders’ fifth place finish.

We’d like to imagine the “Running” singer cheering on his compatriot, but there’s every chance that he was too busy. Because the multi-time A Dal contestant has two new releases to promote.

The first is “Elveszek”, a collaboration with BSW.

Dropping in early April, “Elveszek” became András’ first Hungarian language release in six years.

With both parties endlessly teasing the track for weeks, it doesn’t disappoint.

Their not-so conventional mixing of piano and rap discusses the perhaps-somewhat-more conventional existential crisis of loneliness and lost love.

But who cares about the subject matter when Kállay Saunders is singing?

The music video — which has already racked up over one million views — channels the nineties British boyband East 17. Kitted out in (let’s hope it’s faux) fur coats and fake snow, they couldn’t charm us any more.

Kudos to their impressive use of green screen too!

Back with his band, Kállay premiered “Lighters” at the start of the month. The single is the group’s first release since their A Dal 2017 entry “Seventeen”.

For the most part, it’s typical KSB. The New York born singer urges those that don’t care to put their lighters in the air as they party all night.

Set to tropical beats, Kállay’s smooth vocals are interspersed with spoken word. Current and radio-friendly, the track should appeal to the modern millennial angst, and may even inspire a few to raise up their smart-phones (if not an actual lighter).

Since winning A Dal in 2014, Kállay has made no secret of his desire to return to Eurovision and to take the famous glass microphone back to Budapest. Joined my his bandmates, he’s entered the Hungarian selection on two subsequent occasions, reaching the final on both attempts.

With an upcoming album, another shot at A Dal glory could certainly be on the cards. And if his most recent efforts are anything to go by, we may well be eyeing up Hungarian hotels for Eurovision 2019.

I thought it was a bad idea for him to keep changing the music from week to week on “17” at A Dal. He might have had a better showing (although I thought it was going to be between Gabi and Joci) if he had kept it the way it was in the opening rounds. Methinks he should take a break next year, unless he has something as loud and a atypical as “Who We Are”. —————————————- For Switzerland 2018: Stefanie Heinzmann https://youtu.be/DjOzKFiH0EY Germany should definitely consider her. [I will be dropping hints like this all summer. You guys should… Read more »

Not a fan of him. Running was a winning song but his weakness turned it down a little.
