She sang her way to the top of Eurovision 2013, and has subsequently made in-roads as a songwriter with tracks for Anja Nissen (“Never Alone” at DMGP 2016) and Lucie Jones (“Never Give Up On You” at Eurovision 2017).

And it seems that Denmark’s Emmelie de Forrest has a real thirst for the art of Eurovision songwriting, as she has revealed that she could be tempted to write more songs for the Eurovision Song Contest in the future — though she won’t be competing as a singer.

In an interview with DR Grand Prix blog, Emmelie described her win as “a really fun experience”, but admitted that it would be “a bit difficult to top” her win.

“I could, on the other hand, be tempted to participate again as a songwriter. It is more relaxed, there is not so much pressure when it’s not you on the front row. I have been able to sit in the green room and just hang out.”

Even though the Danish beauty has effectively closed the door on being a Eurovision contestant, there’s no need for teardrops. Queen Em has been very busy lately recording new music and making videos for her Youtube channel and her Facebook profile. In fact, she’s got an extended play in the pipeline.

“There should be a new album out next year. But since I have not released music for two years I can hardly wait, so I am strongly expecting that there already will be a sample of the new music I have been working on this September or October, when my EP should be released.”

The 2013 winner also promises, in her words, less “straight-up-pop.”

“Last autumn I really found my own sound and I wrote some songs which I think are just right. It is a bit more edgy and alternative. There is quite a lot of electric guitar and it’s a bit Peter Gabriel-ish.”

Emmelie has already given us a little preview of her new-found sound on Youtube with the ballad “Shell”, which introduces a more raw and pure sound. It fits perfectly with her naturally nasal voice. The fact she plays the guitar gives this an indie, singer-songwriter feel which definitely agrees with her.

As we wait in suspense for her album, we can rest assured that Emmelie is on a new and promising path — and one with edgy flair.

In any case, what do YOU think? Are you excited to hear Emmelie’s new songs. Would you like to see Emmelie write more songs for Eurovision? Let us know in the comments box below.

It sounds very much like the one she wrote for the UK. The melody even contains many of the same notes and they are repeated over and over again. Same four chords too. Not too interesting I’m afraid. It isn’t really going anywhere. I’m waiting for the unexpected musical moment, but it doesn’t come 🙁

Who cares about Emmelie? Her career is almost thrown in the WC anyway. One hit wonder.

She’s right: It’s difficult to top what she did in 2013! If she competes, we’ll have great expectations. However, these expectations may not be exceeded. So, yeah, I prefer her being a songwriter for eurovision than a contestant.

It would be interesting to watch other songs from her performed at ESC! UK’s song this year, was really good, it fitted Lucie’s personality and it had a great presentation! So, why not?
Emmelie, write more songs for ESC!
