Last week he was the centre of attention during the Juntos Por Todos relief concert that raised more than 1.15 million euros for the devastated region of Pedrógão Grande.
Now, following Portugal’s period of mourning, Eurovision 2017 winner Salvador Sobral has resumed his summer tour and will no doubt be buoyed by this news: “Amar Pelos Dois” is now the most successful Portuguese song on Spotify.
The news comes via ESC Portugal, which reported on the publicly available data supplied by Spotify and accessed via kworb.net.
As of June 29, “Amar Pelos Dois” had racked up 7.1 million streams (1.1 million of which came from Portuguese devices). That makes the Eurovision 2017 winning song the most successful Portuguese song ever on the platform.
Adding to this record, the song composed by Luísa Sobral and performed by Salvador has also achieved the status of being the most played song in 24 hours, both in Portugal and Lithuania, no doubt driven by his stunning victory at Eurovision.
The gentle and jazzy ballad has seen phenomenal charts success since Eurovision, topping 15 markets and entering the top ten in 14 more right after Sobral’s victory in Kyiv.
Salvador’s new project “Alexander Search” is also enjoying some degree of success in the charts. The group’s 14-track album, which draws from a variety of genres from indie-pop to electronic music to a bit of rock, entered iTunes Portugal at No. 1.
The band is set to perform at the famous summer festival “Super Bock Super Rock” on July 13. On top of that Salvador still has 10 more stops before he finishes his own domestic tour that began prior to this year’s Eurovision.

Salvador is the biggest artist right now in Portugal and will have a long and lasting career. His health permitting, working with good composers and having some moderation in language, he will thrive! Will he be a mega world famous super star? No! This is not his ambition nor does his genre produces super stars in our days. Will he conquer other markets in Latin America or in the jazz scene? Yes! Anyhow I doubt it very much that he will have to make a pledge to produce an EP anytime in his life,
Yes, I think his fans can carry his carrer long enough in Portugal. And with multiple projects he will reach a wider audience than he did with “Amar pelos dois”, witch was more appealing to people over 30, in my opinion!
Welp, the tolmachevy sisters are also covering amar pelos dois in several languages, even the languages that they never sang in. also, they are appearing as cast members in ten days in the valley as amish girls who has a pet kiwi bird named rudolph, named after rudolph the red nosed reindeer, which is returning to NBC This year.

Although “Euphoria” did well, it was a polished, really well-composed and sung song. Within the last ten years, “Satellite” is probably closest thematically to “Amar pelos dois” (as well as “Running Scared,” but I personally prefer Lena’s sassier lyrics). The emotion in which Salvador sang rings with the song itself, which only enhances the universal message of wanting a former lover again. I’ve had both (Luisa and Salvador) their albums on my Spotify playlist on a repeat, and I hardly use Spotify. I still can’t comprehend why there are still haters who must attack everytime there’s an article written about this guy. You can dislike the song and you can find it an unworthy winner but the reality is as a song this has done incredibly well and his home country has embraced him unlike any other Eurovision entrant. No jayjay, I think it’s in proportion. I don’t hate him, but the “stupid crap”. I actually think he and his sister provided us with a nice defining moment in Eurovision history.
Just saying Robin Bengtsson has 18M streams, Francesco Gabbani 17M and Frans 75M streams. In Frans’ case I do not think they all come from Sweden.
Frans had a much bigger hit than Robin. In fact, I heard Frans’ song this spring when I was traveling through Europe. Spotify is a Swedish institution and streams in that country are really indicative of success there. I’d say that 18M versus 75M is a good comparison for Swedish pop songs.
I’m surprised Karma only has 17M streams given that there’s 60M people in that county. Portugal has 11M and the song has been played 7M times. I don’t believe either country has the same Spotify penetration percentage-wise as Sweden.

And don’´t forget to mention that Amar Pelos Dois has an impressive number of covers what is extraordinary for a song that is not in english. Also, there are translations for so many languages. What an accomplishment!
It’s already the song that has more covers in the 21st century. It has versions in more than 20 languages, including Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latvian, Maltese, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, Russian, Ukrainian, etc. On youtube, we find versions in all kinds of styles (from classical music to heavy metal), sung by people that don’t even speak a word of Portuguese, which really is amazing (and endearing). Y’all are forgetting that APD is not a very chart-friendly song, and neither was 1944. The chart success they got may have been smaller than other entries they beat, but still impressive considering the language/music genre. Chart-friendly and radio-friendly music are not the only worthy kind of music, especially not in an ESC context.

Well you see staying power of the song i.e. people’s want to listen to the song as determined by streams and charts are the true measure of the quality of the songs. Noi, I agree! Even if the song is not liked after a couple of year, even if it’s become dated or something makes people dislike it, it doesn’t take away the merit of winning! Actually only three entries of Eurovision 2017 that certified was “Amar pelos dois” (gold), “City Lights” (platinum) and “Occidentali´s Karma (4x platinum but it was before the final, after the sixth place he just certified gold with his album “Magellano” and OG3NE certified platinum with their disc)
Occidentalis Karma was 4 Platinum after Eurovision Song Contest and gold for “Magellano” as also “Fra le granite e le Granate ”

Salvador is a fantastic musician and a wonderful person, that is much admired in Portugal (of course there are also some null guys full of envy, spreading hate whenever they can, but who cares about little people?).
Although what the article fails to mention is that it dropped out of most of these markets in which it charted by the first week itself.

1)Unhyped bad(divisive) winners don’t chart at all(Ukraine 2016)
2)hyped good(accommodative) winners chart high and stay(Sweden 2012)
3)unhyped good(accomodative) winners should chart low but stay(no example comes to mind)
4)hyped bad(divisive) winners chart but fall fast(for sake of peace no example given)
