She won The Voice of Holland in 2016 and followed that up with two Top 40 hits.

And now, as The Netherlands searches for its Eurovision 2018 star, Maan has entered the rumour mill as a potential contender.

In May commentators began to wonder aloud whether Maan’s appearance on De beste zangers van Nederlands (The Best singers in the Netherlands) foretold of a future Eurovision performance.

It looks a bit like AVROTROS are grooming Maan for the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest,” Televizier wrote of the 20-year-old star. “OG3NE also competed in last year’s Best zangers and the girl group was later put forward.”

But that’s not all.

The songstress will also compete in the upcoming series of Dance, Dance, Dance, the popular show that sees celebrities showing off their dance moves. Among the other contestants is Eurovision veteran Edsilia Rombley.

Maan’s second TV series of the year suggests she’s very much of-the-moment, which would no doubt make her a popular choice for The Netherlands.

Who is Maan?

Maan — full name Maan de Steenwinkel — has leveraged her victory on The Voice rather successfully.

Her first single “Perfect World” — a collaboration with the internationally known DJ Hardwell — achieved gold status after just two months. The dance song set her big voice to a heavy EDM beat, and captured the playful, youthful side of the singer.

Not a one-hit wonder, she followed that up with “Ride It”, which also went gold, leading to an invitation to sing in The Toppers annual concert — an honour reserved for some of the country’s most commercially successful artists.

The Netherlands at Eurovision 2018

Following several years of crashing out of the semi-finals, the Netherlands has enjoyed a renaissance of late.

In the last five years the Dutch have qualified for the final four out of five times. All four qualifications saw them finishing on the left-hand side of the scoreboard, with The Common Linnets achieving a stellar second place.

This year’s rumour mill has already churned out the usual suspects like Alain Clark and some new ones like Dance, Dance, Dance alum and The Bodyguard star Romy Monteiro.

We’ll have to wait and see what AVROTROS decides. But this much is clear: Maan wouldn’t mind the gig. Following her victory on The Voiceshe said she’d be keen to sing at Eurovision.

In any case, are you liking what you’re hearing? Do you think that AVROTROS should consider Maan? Let us know in the comments box below.

Maan would be perfect! 🙂 I think she needs a good director, but she has really show appeal and a very good voice to make it very far!

She was at my school, and took a picture with her, it would be great to see her at Eurovision. She is a great singer, but we got a lot of great singers in The Netherlands, so don’t rush the choice. We haven’t confirmed yet tho.

I hope the freaking not. This is my nightmare since I was thinking about who we should send in 2018. She would end up like Macedonia this year. She’s trying to be something she’s not. She just a average girl with a more than average voice, trying to act like a strong female popstar, which she’s obviously not. Nope, if we send her I hope she will flop hard. I would join team Belgium to be honest.

I’m from The Netherlands and I hope that Maan represents The Netherlands in 2018!! But I thought that I saw in an interview or something that she thinks she isn’t ready right now to go to Eurovision 2018 (too nervous). But my favourite to represent our country is Dotan!

So sad for O’G3NE and the family/friends from Isolde & O’G3NE that she died…

Oh, don’t forget Tania Kross and Tommie Christiaans!! They were soooo good on Beste Zangers with ”Barcelona”.

AVROTROS should consider Thomas Azier, an up and coming electronic pop artist who’s been making waves in the festival scene and has what it takes to slay it on the Lisboan stage next year. He’s cool, fresh and he’s got his own style and aesthetic. Unlike Maan, who’s pretty and can sing well, but lacks some personality.

I would love to see her do Eurovision. It’s about time we get some authentic Dutch EDM.

I mean, we already got some Indie Dance from Belgium, why not some Dutch House for a change

I Love Maan, and i know she’s a eurovision fan, this year she predicted Salvador to win, and he won

i’m so hoping her daddy can use his money and influences to get us a great producer and songwriter to make the right song for her

Maan is so gorgeous, her dance moves keep improving as well, with her latest song Almost Had it All

You know who we should send? Thomas Azier. He’s creative, talented, has heaps stage presence, has his style and voice and could ride the cool electropop wave initiated by our Southern neighbors of Belgium.

Oh Gosh, not here. There are a plenty of great singers in The Netherlands and we don’t need to discuss about a flopper.

That “Ride It” song is awful, and I’m not a fan of her voice either. I feel like she’s just another singer without an artistic personality yet. This means that the Dutch broadcaster can give her any song, which is an advantage – it worked very well for Bulgaria this year.

Don’t like her at all. She can sing alright and that is what counts for Eurovision… right? I’ve read some rumors about her dad helping her loads by getting her jobs and starring in a Dutch news program “Pauw and Witteman” for multiple times (her father is the director of the show). I just feel we haven’t seen the real “Maan” yet. For now, I rather see other great Dutch artists giving it a shot at Eurovision like: – Alain Clark. Good looking guy with an astounding voice. Could pull a simple love song or a clever pop song. –… Read more »

No no…. Please no… She’s overrated and a bad choice. I’d rather see kensington, iris kroes or even romy monteiro.

Her rich daddy pays for her appearances in all those shows. It’s sad that you need money and not talent to make it. She’s bland af.

i first liked her, read my first post months ago, but i find her acting more and more arrogant now, and yes i agree with your post, if Maan goes to eurovision for my country, we are a certain NQ, i am 110% sure about that now

OG3NE
– The Voice Winners
– Pre-show Eurovision
– Beste Zangers

MAAN
– The Voice winner
– Pre-show Eurovision
– Beste Zangers

I see a pattern, also because both artists got hits from Beste Zangers… Would love to see her in Lisbon next year… Let’s wait and see, although she said herself that she thinks it’s too early in her career to participate
