For almost a decade he was the front-runner of pop-rock band A Friend In London, which secured Denmark a Top 5 finish at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.

And earlier this summer Tim Schou proved that going solo was a rather good idea, as he dropped “Morrison” — his latest radio-friendly single.

An introspective number with a sparse rock arrangement, Tim uses the emotive piece to do battle with the demons in his head. As he sings: “Dear lord, am I losing my mind? Dear lord, I think I’m falling behind.”

Underscored with whistling and a fierce drum kit, this pop number veers into rap territory too. Despite the slight shift in genre, and what many might consider a risky move, it blends beautifully. If you’ve got a lot to say, rap is sometimes the most straightforward way of saying it.

Video director Nik Shaw shot the music video entirely in black and white — and in an empty church in Denmark.

Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Tim says the goal was to create a video that captures the thin line between serenity and insanity.

“The concept we wanted to create with the ‘Morrison’ video was the search for boundaries and the exploration of thoughts inside our heads,” he says. “The man in the suit, played by Danish actor Pelle Emil Hebsgaard, and portraying a devil-like figure, represents the thoughts inside of our heads. It’s almost like it’s a fight between God and the devil, or the good angel vs. the evil angel.”

It’s clear that Tim, who wrote the song, connects with it deeply. The life of an artist isn’t easy and involves numerous confrontations with one’s self.

“For me ‘Morrison’ is about the black holes, the dark times and being on the verge of insanity. I always had an understanding of, and a compassion with, the people and artists who dedicate their whole being and soul to their art. As an artist I hang inside emotions. Good and bad, and I keep hanging as long as needed. That’s what I do and that’s what my songs are made of. Sometimes those emotions pile up, and that’s how ‘Morrison’ came out.”

“Last year in August I brought my favorite videographer, Nik Shaw and his director Jordan Nistico from Hollywood to the countryside of Denmark to shoot five music videos in eight days. It was a crazy project that was funded by my fans, who also attended the music video camp and followed the project up close.”

“We camped out in my parents’ garden, and within eight days we had shot five music videos for a bunch of my new upcoming songs. One of them was ‘Morrison'”.

“It felt so personal. The church where the video was shot is Lille Heddinge Kirke — the same place that my parents got married in, and my brother was baptized in. It was my local church, so it definitely was a special feeling to shoot this video.”

MORRISON LYRICS — Tim Schou

Dear lord, am I losing my mind?
Dear lord, I think I’m falling behind
Is this my conviction?
Like some stupid inner mission
Dear lord, am I losing my mind?
Cause I feel like Morrison
Like I need my medicine
And I feel like giving in
Just like Morrison
I need my medicine
Cause the walls are closing in
And I feel like Morrison
But this will all make sense one day
Dear lord, I had a pocket full of dreams
Dear lord, and the world at my feet
Is this my conviction?
Cause I got a cut of deep emotion
Dear lord, am I losing my mind?
Cause I feel like Morrison
Like I need my medicine
And I feel like giving in
Just like Morrison
I need my medicine
Cause the walls are closing in
And I feel like Morrison
But this will all make sense one day
This will all make sense one day
This will all make sense one day
I saw the gold of tomorrow’s land
Held destiny in my own hands
But now I’m staring into the abyss trying to grasp this,
looking for my bliss and the lucky star I was born with,
I guess I ended up on your convict list.
Cause I feel like Morrison
Like I need my medicine
And I feel like giving in
Just like Morrison
I need my medicine
Cause the walls are closing in
And I feel like Morrison
But this will all make sense one day
This will all make sense one day
This will all make sense one day

I love Tim’s music. I saw his instagram story and he’s being really creative with the background beats (he uses his own hands!). Also, he responds to his fans when they dm him, so that makes me love him even more. A really sweet guy <3
