It has been more than 70 years since the two Koreas were divided by an artificial border in the wake of the Second World War. But even as the decades rush by, and as North Korea’s leader engages in a high-profile nuclear spat with Donald Trump, many retain hope that North and South Korea will once again be united in peace — and through the will of the people.

And on Tuesday — Korea’s National Independence Day — a group of Korean artists, including Korean-born Australian Eurovision star Dami Im, boosted hope with a new charity single entitled “Korean Dream”.

As SBS Australia reports, Dami spoke of the divided Koreas during a press conference held in Seoul on Monday — on the eve of the release of “Korean Dream”.

The “Sound of Silence” star said that she believes that uncomfortable, sensitive and difficult issues such as the reunification of the Korean people can be addressed through the power of music.

The song is the second from the “One K Global Campaign Song Project”, which seeks to raise awareness about Korea and garners support for the reunification of the two countries.

Hit songwriting duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who have written songs for Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and George Michael, penned the single along with singer-songwriter Peabo Bryson.

Speaking to Female First, Lewis expressed his belief that music cuts across borders.

“I think music reaches right into the soul of someone,” he said. “It doesn’t matter what language, doesn’t matter whether you are young or old or where you are from. A great song can really uplift and provide the soundtrack for the people to do whatever it is they want to do.”

The song itself is a ballad made up of various solos, but it also features a traditional choir in the chorus. The artists’ performances ooze empathy, fervour and warmth and that places the song right in the slipstream of other popular charity tracks such as Band Aid and “Do They Know It’s Christmas”.

Let’s us all hope that this warm-hearted project will help ease tensions on the Korean peninsula. We are all about love, love and peace, peace here at wiwibloggs and send loads of it to Miss Dami Im.

Despite the song being a cliche peace hymn a la We Are The World, Dami manages to bring out the best out of it. This woman has incredible talent, wow, what a voice.

Sad that the words LOVE and PEACE are now a joke because of that…song.
For 2 countries to be united, unfortunately, at least one must be very strong financially to help the other one. This is why Romania and Moldova can’t be united, neither is strong enough to literally provide for and support the other…well…this and because Putin will start a war…like he is about to start AGAIN…in Moldova.

The song, I don’t like it sorry… for me it is not moving, not uplifting and sounds very cliché . However there is a positive, it will raise Dami’s profile in Sth Korea, for a short time, which is a positive outcome.

A noble cause. Unfortunately, N.K. has a basket case willing to commit suicide and take his side with him, and we in the U.S. have Chairman Cheeto ready to flush the whole idea down the toilet with his infantile language and nuclear bluster.

A united Korea? Seriously? How do you imagine that? Why would a democracy and a developed state join a dictatorship where people have to literally eat grass to feed themselves? Do you think South Koreans will want to support that hole financially? And what is Dami Im going to do with the communist leaders? Or is she fine with a Communist South Korea too?

Well seriously, you are taking this to seriously, dami cant do anything political, but that does not mean they sit there and do nothing, dami is supporting this as a singer only and you comments don’t help.

Of course, she does not have the answers to those types of question. That is why singers should not get involved in areas that they do not understand, like politics.
As for the song, interesting timing. There is little appetite here for any sort of reunification at the moment.

Dami has the God given voice and she uses it for the greater good. She has a big heart who just cares about others and not just her own. She cares about children live in poverty, she cares about her mother country and would love to see the two Korea re-unite. She does all this and wants nothing in return you know why? Because she has the kindest heart, the most humble human being and to me, she is an Angle. Good on you Dami.

I sent this to newspapers Subject: Korea Dear editor With the escalation of tensions between North Korea and America and Donald Trump threatening to bomb the daylights out of them, I find it ironic that our very own Korean born Dami Im has just arrived there to promote the premier of ‘ Korean Dream ‘, a CD to promote harmony and reunification of Korea. Dami adds her beautiful voice to this CD and cause, and Even though it may be but a dream, I would rather listen to the sound of beautiful music and not the sound of bombing threats!… Read more »

It’s funny how charity singles sound exactly the same all over the world. 🙂

Japan don’t want a united Korea.

China and Russia don’t want to have another american base near their border.

The US don’t want North Korea united with South Korea since the US would lose justification to put army in East Asia.

South Korea worries money if it units with North Korea.

At least some people sings peace, it’s worth than nothing.

The USA wants a United Korea. Why else would General MacArthur have pushed so deep during the Korean War?

The Americans have military bases all over the planet for global domination. They’re building a base in Australia; they have no enemies in the close vicinity.
