As we wait for the results of the OGAE Second Chance Song Contest and anticipation builds for the 2018 national selection season, there’s no reason to twiddle our thumbs. Instead, we can all throws ourselves into yet another song contest — the OGAE Song Contest 2017, whose list of participants was recently announced.

The OGAE Song Contest is an annual event organized by OGAE — the Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l’Eurovision, or General Organisation of Eurovision Fans —  in which the members of OGAE compete with an original song released in their countries. The song has to have been released in the last twelve months and sung in one of the country’s national languages.

The voting for the 32nd edition of this competition opened three days ago and will close on the 3rd of October. At the end of this post you can listen to all of the songs and then vote in our unofficial poll.

The first ever OGAE Song Contest took place in 1986 and has been an annual event ever since. Previous winners include Mylène Farmer, Laura Pausini, Elena Paparizou, Coldplay, Adele, Nina Zilli, Pastora Soler and Indila.

France and Spain have had the most victories so far with six each. Spain is the reigning champ, having won it last year with the song “Sofia” by Álvaro Soler.

This year 28 OGAE members will take part in the OGAE Song Contes. They are:

• Andorra

Also among the contestants are international stars Clean Bandit, Tiziano Ferro, Kygo, Mariza and Broods.

You’ve got a bit of a wait for the actual results. So why not vote in our poll now and let Europe know what you’re thinking? As always you can vote for as many acts as you’d like, but you can only vote one time. So be sure to click the box next to each act you want to support.

I love the OGAE Song Contest! It’s the first time I follow this and I’m so excited! Many different languages and many different songs and voices! Some comments on artists: The Belarussian song is one of the songs which competed in the national final this year, isn’t it? But that was in English. Same with Soulwave from Hungary. The competed in A Dal with a different song. I really like this group, they should go to Eurovision sometime. Favourites: France: Le lac is an amazing song. I love it, it reminds me of summer, it’s so relaxing, Julien Doré is… Read more »

There are pretty bad-average songs here. I’m glad the OGAE fans don’t choose the ESC contestants. I would save the songs coming from Ireland, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Rest of the World, Hungary, Armenia, Czech Rep. and France. So, my top 5: 1. Ireland 2. Slovakia 3. France 4. Hungary 5. RoW Also, some points about some of these entries: – Why is Ireland choosing a Norwegian DJ? – Why is Belarus choosing a song from its NF? This isn’t the OGAE 2nd Chance… sure Belarus has more songs. – United Kingdom sending hits like last year with Adele is a… Read more »

Preferrably an unknown and non-esc-related artist wins, But then again OGAE contests are so predictable, i lost interest long ago.

I think these OGAE contests are outdated, now that everyone can find all kinds of music from all corners of the world on the internet.

Sergey is the most suspenseful ESC 2016 participant and more than Dami Im. He didn’t win because the jury don’t wanted an ESC held in the homophobic and problematic Russia for now! the televoting prove who as the real winner!

LOL The jurors preferred homophobic Ukraine? Come on what a silly comment you made. Based on zero facts.

Ukraine won becuz Jamala song was emotional and touching, but if was by EBU and jury they could preffer Australia to win!

For many people, and me personally, Sergey is the winner of ESC 2016.
Jury can be corrupted and vote only in political meaning, especially with the country such as Russia which has negative reputation in some political and social topics.
It is only important who was chosen as the first by the public, who is the choice of the viewers, because ESC is a show which is organized for the public, and every viewer pays every voice he gives.

Sergey did not win, so live with it. the song was rubbish and they forgot this is singing contest, you cannot compare his vocals to Dami Im or Jamala.

The jury is the most honest of the voters, they vote because of certain criteria and cant be corrupted.
many Russians voted for Ukraine as well and that is why Sergey did not win, and the votes went to Australia and Ukraine

Russia did not win because his song was clicheyed, his singing was ordinary, the song was OK, but they forgot this is a song contest 1st and that’s why Dami I’m did better, her vocals could not be beaten, comparing Dami im to Sergey vocals is like comparing a Ferrari with a Pick up truck, no comparison, next time come with some one that can sing and then you might get lucky.
FYI Dami is bigger star than Sergey, dami has platinum and gold albums and singles, Sergey does not looking at his discography.

Sabi
Sabi

But Sergey song meet the ESC standars and with those Cirque du Soleil perfomance could have won at least in the 00’s when was pure televoting back then if wasn’t too cliche!

You can’t compare Sergey and Dami carrear because Dami dosen’t have +20 years of music carrear like Sergey and many awards like him.

@ Elle Yes, i agree completely. For us who know more about Sergey that is not surprise. @ Stephen Podesta Maybe song of Sergey was “clicheyed” and “rubbish” for you ( tastes are different, it is normal that everybody does not like the same things), but you are so wrong when you say that Sergey can not sing and that his vocals can not be compared to Dami Im or Jamala. His voice on ESC was very good, similar to the spot ( despite the complicated performance), but this song does not show the full potencial of his voice. Sergey… Read more »

Sergey compared to Dami and Jamala is not the same, yes he can sing, but he did not show it on the performance, the special effects overtook the act on that night.
Sergey is a good singer, but in 2016 Dami and Jamala were just to much better.
The contest is about the song and how it is enterpreted and sang on the night, not the special effects.
The judges vote on the singing and the song mostly and Russia forgot this in 2016.

Dami Im and Jamala simply had more luck than Sergey, because song type they sang showed their vocal possibilitys better.

Dami Im got my vote. I was a little but disappointed with the song at first, it was way too techno-y for my taste, but still, Dami’s voice makes up for it.

I’m probably biased…

Who chooses the entries? How the hell is Loïc Nottet not in there?! He dropped one of the best albums IN YEARS (and not just in the Eurovision bubble).

I wish Urban Trad won in 2003, but they’ve pretty much disappeared since then. Loïc on the other hand is on to become a massive performer.

Britain is so low for choosing a global hit that sucks anyway. That Dami Im song is also pretty bad but I guess the Australian ogays thought that the Eurofans would vote just because they’re familiar with it. Also why did Ireland choose a Norwegian DJ as their lead artist?

I like Slovakia, Serbia and Macedonia I guess.

Polegend,

Kodaline, who perform the song with Kygo are from Dublin. The song belongs to them as well as him. They perform it live at their gigs too. I guess its an Irish/Norwegian production.
