Taylor Swift Jedward Twitter Suspension

Apparently the old Taylor Swift is dead. However, on Monday night Jedward fans had bigger things to worry about when the duo’s official Twitter account disappeared.

The brothers’ loyal fan base was left mystified as the “@planetjedward” handle redirected them to a notice from Twitter stating that their account had been suspended. #GetPlanetJedwardBack began to spread quickly as puzzled Jedhead’s campaigned for their idols to return.

By Tuesday morning everything was almost back to normal, with Twitter reinstating the twins’ profile — although their blue verified badge is noticeably absent. But why was it suspended to begin with? Well, it transpires that Taylor Swift is apparently the one to blame, or rather her legion of Swifties.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the American popstar released the first cut off her upcoming album last week. Its arrival sent the internet into a spin as fans and haters alike tucked into the song and its meaning.

Then on Sunday, Taylor dropped the “Look What You Made Me Do” video during the MTV VMAs. Cue more hysteria.

Amongst the choir of well-wishers were the brothers Grimes, who tweeted the singer saying “Best music video of all time”. In addition to the message of support, they re-uploaded all four minutes and sixteen seconds of the clip in question.

But Swift’s fans were unimpressed. Back in 2015, Adele’s “Hello” set the record as the most-viewed music video within 24 hours. The Swifties were determined to break this. And nothing, not even the famous bequiffed twins, was going to stand in their way.

Swift by name, swift by nature. The Swifties wasted no time in mobilising their forces, and reported the “Lipstick” hitmakers en masse.

Thankfully, all’s well that ends well. Taylor Swift comfortably broke the record, while the Irish Eurovision 2011 and 2012 stars can tweet once more.

As of Tuesday evening, neither John nor Edward have publicly commented on the incident, although the offending tweet has been removed.

We suspect they may want to be excluded from this narrative given they’ve so many projects on at the moment.

They recently appeared in the fifth instalment of the Sharknado movie franchise, and also filmed scenes for an upcoming MTV celebrity dating show. On top of all that, they’re due to appear alongside the likes of Brendan Murray and Linda Martin on the judging panel for Ireland’s Junior Eurovision 2017 selection.

What do you think of the Twitter drama? Did Jedward deserve to be suspended? Or were Taylor’s fans simply being a tad overzealous? Let us know in the comments below.

I’m not a fan of either, but Jedward deserved a punishment of some sort, since they re-uploaded copyrighted material in it’s entirety.

Jonas – ”Milo Yiannoppolous was banned for being a similarly odious person.”

I don’t understand such persons. Who is Milo Y., what is his job? He says is ”professional troll”, so he has a career just because he posted comments as troll, and somebody answered to him. This is why is very important to NOT FEED THE TROLL. Now he makes a lot of money from speeches, because somebody fed the troll.
Also I dislike Ben Shapiro, but not as much I dislike Milo.

Twitter has to make it harder to have accounts suspended. The fact that a mindless horde of stans could bring down an account that did nothing wrong shows a huge flaw in how Twitter operates. I mean, on what grounds was Jedward’s account suspended for?

I watched the video for “Look What You Made Me Do” this Sunday, and I loved it! Also, I’m really happy Jedward has their Twitter account back! 😉

I swear, fangirls and fanboys are just a pain in the old rump. They should be the ones banned, not Jedward. This only comes to show that the world is full of idiots.

(And to top it off my dad is a Taylor Swift fan. Dishonor on me!)

This is so ridiculous. Btw, the new Taylor Swift sounds just like the old one…

Well that is utterly ridiculous considering how hard it is to get somebody banned or suspended on twitter. I’ve reported numerous racist/homophobic/anti-semitic tweets and nothing is ever done about it. That Nazi cretin Richard Spencer can still have an account (and other white supremacists) but not Jedward?

There is something seriously wrong with that.

The difference is that this affects monetary value with views on vevo and accreditation while the former is non-monetary. Business trumps all lol

Richard Spencer is a massive d*ck, but freedom of speech allows him to tweet whatever he wants.

Sorry to inform you, but hate speech is still free speech. By regulating what people are and aren’t allowed to say, you’re pretty much enforcing an authoritarian system. By banning Richard Spencer, Twitter is only going to make the alt-right angrier, which in turn can result in another Charlottesville-like incident.

Twitter are no obligated to facilitate his “free speech”. It is their platform, and they can ban whomever they like. They provide the venue, and if Richard Spencer does not like their rules, he can f*ck off – this in no way affects his statutory constitutional rights. He can scream his evil Nazi propaganda as loud as like but Twitter do not have to provide the stage. He can yell at the clouds like the raving nutcase that he is. Milo Yiannoppolous was banned for being a similarly odious person. Sorry to inform you, but “free speech” is not at… Read more »

Look at it this way. If Twitter was to ban Spencer, then he will gain a victory. Spencer (and Yiannoppolous) have been saying for months that the left is oppressing their views and their respective movements (Yiannoppolous is not related to Spencer). By doing that, to a lot of people, Spencer would have been right that the left is censoring him and they might join the alt-right. Plus, it would lead to a lot of publicity for Spencer, after all, how many people knew about Yiannoppolous before his Twitter account was removed, or before his book deal was canceled, or… Read more »

Great post! I don’t really disagree with any of that, I was just arguing the smaller point on the actual definition of “free speech”. To say that free speech allows people to tweet whatever they want is just not true. It is not a get-out-of-jail free card.

But allowing Milo and Spencer to say what they want uncensored and without outrage could be a very good way to defeat their ideas. After the Berkeley riots, Milo went on Bill Maher’s show and said that he was smarter than the other guests and that permanently derailed the conversation. Spencer got invited to speak at an Alabama university and he ranted about how football is degenerate. If Spencer and Milo are allowed to speak their minds without people freaking out about them, then people will judge them on their ideas, not how much they annoy SJWs. If that happened,… Read more »

Freedom of speech comes with consequences. It always has and always will.

I agree that freedom of speech comes with consequences. However, censoring the stupid things he says will only make it worse.

Freedom of speech does not justify hateful and discriminatory words in any way. That’s called blind ignorance.

I’m glad they have their account back, They certainly didn’t deserve to have it suspended, they’ve always been huge supporters of Taylor Swift. It’s well documented that they’ve spoken up for her on several occasions.
