Good evening, Asia! Now that the ball is rolling on Eurovision Asia 2018, Eurovision fans the world over are speculating over which countries we are likely to see on stage at the inaugural contest next year. This is an exciting time for us fans, not only because we have another Eurovision event to geek out over, analyse and complain about, but because organisers want the fandom’s help. The team behind the new contest are asking for your opinions and thoughts on the contest. So let’s get the ball rolling by finding out which countries you’d most like to see competing at Eurovision Asia 2018.

As we reported yesterday, participating countries do not have to be full members of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. That opens the door for organisers to engage with a variety of broadcasters — both commercial and governmental — in areas from the United Arab Emirates to Tahiti.

Thinking wide and dreaming big, we’re including the nearly 70 countries within the Asia-Pacific region, 45 of which are members of the ABU, in our poll below. The contest is bound to grow in the years ahead and you never know what could happen in the future. Hong Kong, Samoa, North Korea — we’re laying it all out there.

Over the past few days we’ve bought you a small amount of musical delicacies from the likes of India, Kyrgyzstan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Vietnam and South Korea and there’s so much more amongst the entirety of the Asia-Pacific region. Get listening. Get inspired. And get ready for Eurovision Asia 2018!

You can vote for as many countries as you like, but you can only vote once so make sure you make all your selections before hitting submit. Just click the box next to each country that titillates you.

And please note: We are including non-country entities as well. Hong Kong and Macau, for instance, already have broadcasters that are affiliated with the ABU, which suggests they could, in fact, compete as entities of their own.

I voted for all the countries except Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, Israel and Turkey. They should continue partivipating in the ESC and decline the participation of EASC. Thery are strong countries enough and I love to see them every year in the Eurovision contest. I think these countrie even not belong to Asia. They are Caucasian countries (Russia is both in the Europe and Asia) and are situated in the middle of Europe and Asia. So please… NO Evrovision Asia for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, and Turkey…..

9Muses have a amazing and international style music catalogue so i think they are one great option, and Blackpink, Kard or Hyuna, they can may a big and good impact on this competition! i really dream for 9Muses, but any S/K acts are good! i think! …

Obviously a competition works better with more participants so as many as possible?
Which countries would I be looking forward to? For music quality, definitely Thailand. For interesting music, maybe some of the ethnic stylings of the former USSR countries.

I don’t know why people think it’s an issue if China & Taiwan joins. They do compete against each other in sports competitions, even some beauty pageants. Taiwan just competes by the name of Chinese Taipei. They even sent their delegation to Beijing during the Olympics there. Same with Hong Kong, they just compete as Hong Kong, China. Some people really need to read up on world events more

LMFAO “progressive and free”… But assuming for a second you are serious, I can try to answer that question for you: 1. Your first premise, that people primarily (should) pick what countries they want in a music competition like Eurovision (Asia) based on political climate or human rights, is wrong. We don’t penalize Poland for its recent anti-democratic reforms, or countries like BiH and Serbia for its problems in the electoral process, or Italy for its lack luster press freedom or because Canale 5 found it amusing to sexually harass a Eurovision contestant on national TV. There are ofc other… Read more »

But seeing from the junks the national broadcaster (TVRI) sent to ABU song contest, I concern of they sending another crappy ballad. I instead hope they will choose dangdut act or internationally well-named acts (Rich Chigga maybe?)

TVRI isn’t the only Indonesian full member. Metro TV, MNC TV, and RCTI are also full members of the ABU. TVRI is super outdated anyway, but let’s hope RCTI or other channels choose the artists.

Let’s be honest, neither Korea nor the majority of Arab countries will be part of any such show, because its laws, religions, rulers or customs DO NOT ALLOW. It is good that we all consider their pretensions but we also know that is something that will not happen, the case of Taiwan is complicated because China does not recognize him as an independent nation and we would see ourselves in the situation of Eurovision with Israel and Muslim countries, They would not participate or refuse to transmit their actions, so for my opinion, this first edition of EASC should be… Read more »

Russia is both in Europe and Asia, geographically, but personally I want them to stay in ESC. Same with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Israel (I want them to stay, because I got used to them and they bring good entries most of the times). Turkey can go to Eurovision Asia. Australia can do whatever they want. Personally, I think they should move to Eurovision Asia, because they are in the Asia Pacific region, they are very interested in this project and also this bias in favour of Australia must stop at some time. Eurovision has grown into a brand. Like other succesful TV shows adapted to international version and franchises (Next Top Model, Got Talent, The Voice, Idol, nobody’s bitchin about them being ripped off)
If you don’t like Eurovision Asia, then don’t go to Asia. Simple as that. It won’t be made for European public ANYWAY and your TV won’t be affected by what you a called rip-off.
And if you don’t like that Wiwi writes about it, then go read other blogs.

I mean if you look at it North Korea and South Korea don’t have that bad relationship – they are NOT at war even. The problem would be with the Arabic states, they aren’t really getting along(not all of the of course). But I voted for every country, but I left out Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan – I think these countries belong to Eurovision since Europe has less countries than Asia so it would be an easier organisation, but them participating in EASC wouldn’t be so strange as Australia in ESC(they already are.)

I would love to see most of these countries, but prefer that Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia stick to Eurovision. Also, it would be great so see some of the smaller Oceanic island nations participate, along with some of the Arab states. The depth of diversity among the Asian nations is incredible. It will make for a great show! 🙂

Kazakhstan has a strong music background. Ofc Australia, Japan, China, NZ, HK, Macau, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, India…it will be great and quite diverse!

Btw, Norfolk Island can participate since they are an ABU member. Also, New Caledonia has an independence referendum set to 2018, so they should be considered.

Let Kiribati and Tuvalu participate before they disappear (and Guam before being nuked).

Do you know FSC? I have discovered a few months and a competition similar to Eurovision, each one chooses a country, if the country is already busy, do not worry, you continue as a jury of that country (and do the same), send a song and vote at the end of Editing (does not take much time). It’s very funny and discovers songs from other countries. Subscribe to the forum ESCYOUnited.
