Moldova‘s 2016 Eurovision star Lidia Isac shined bright last night on The Voice of Romania.

With a heartfelt rendition of Adele’s “When We Were Young”, Lidia managed to impress all four judges, who turned their chairs to see the beauty behind the voice.

In the end, she picked Tudor Chirila, the first judge who turned around, and the mentor behind the last three winners of the show.

Lidia, the Moldovan singer who represented Moldova at Eurovision in 2016 with “Falling Stars”, has attempted to win the hit talent show before.

Earlier this year she competed on France’s The Voice: La plus belle voix, where she convinced Florent Pagny to take her under his wing. That time she only advanced to the Battles stage. But this time around she looks set for a much longer journey after she wowed all four judges with her amazing pipes. Not in the least because she chose Tudor Chirila, the judge who won the last three editions of Romania’s show.

In the testimonial ahead of the blind audition performance, Lidia said that she chose The Voice of Romania because she is little known in her neighbouring country and wanted to remedy that. After her pitch-perfect and emotional audition, the judges praised her singing and the fact that she managed to own the song and make it personal. “You made me cry,” Loredana said, thanking Lidia for her performance.

Smiley, who took Aliona Moon to the final of the same show back in 2014, was caught in a moment. “I was embarrassed to push the noisy button, for fear that I would ruin the intimate moment that you created,” he said. “I loved the fact that you didn’t sound like Adele.”

“I want to discover you,” said Tudor, the judge who eventually became Lidia’s mentor for the remainder of the show.

SunStroke Project, the beloved band who took Moldova to third place at Eurovision this year, were among the first countrymen to congratulate Lidia Isac on her performance last night.

We will keep you updated with Lidia Isac’s journey on the Romanian talent show, where we wish her the best of luck.

I’m happy for her. The man from the thumbnail, with purple shirt, that she has chosen as mentor, has won the last three seasons, and he is some kind of Salvador of Romania. Not big producer, but a person with a lot of ideas and imagination. And the broadcaster PRO TV is the one that wanted to take Eurovision from the public TVR, in order to make Ovidiu Anton participate in 2016. So the whole drama is well known.
I have a feeling that Lidia is in the right place.

Not to take anything away from her but does anyone actually get successful from participating on The Voice?

Christina Grimmie from The Voice US.

That’s really sad.

I don’t know if you’re trying to be funny of not.

I’m not being funny.

Christina legitimately was one of The Voice US known alumni after her season. It helped that she was a Youtuber with a built-in fan-base before she took part in the competition so young people were already familiar with her.

Here in Italy it didn’t produce one single hit in four seasons. I’m glad there are no plans for a fifth season because it’s such a useless talent show, truly the inferior version of the X Factor.

The people getting successful off The Voice have always been the Judges. They get constant re-exposure, frequently get to make the mentees work on the Judge’s personal projects, and sometimes get to tie-in their own new musical releases before a national audience.

It’s like how the only meaningful big winners of Project Runway are Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum, year in and year out.

Great. It will be nice if she and Ovidiu Anton will sing a duet in this show. He said will never forget her offer to sing together for Moldova in Stockholm 2016 after his disqualification. She must ask him and I’m sure he will say yes. I hope she wins it all.

I love her! But I hate when ESC stars have to participate in competitions like this. I mean aren’t they like “professional” singers.

that’s true but still, I just think she’s better than this.
