She’s the singer whose 2014 interval performance kicked off Australia‘s involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest. Now Jessica Mauboy has revealed that she would love to return to Eurovision.
Speaking to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, Jessica responded with “a big yes” when asked if she would like to return to Eurovision one day.
Looking back at her original performance in Copenhagen, Jessica described the experience as “a childhood dream come true.”
The diva from down under made her first Eurovision appearance in 2014, when she performed “Sea of Flags” as the interval act in the second semi-final.
This marked the first appearance of decades-long fans Australia at Eurovision. It led to Australia’s competitive debut the following year, when Guy Sebastian placed fifth with “Tonight Again”.
But while Jessica Mauboy has performed on the Eurovision stage, she’s never faced the public vote. Her recent comment suggests that she’s ready to perform as Australia’s act for Lisbon in May.
Meanwhile, Jessica is busy with the upcoming second series of the hit Australian musical drama The Secret Daughter. The series centres around a country pub singer (played by Jessica) who discovers a connection with a wealthy city businessman.
In conjunction with the new series, Jessica is also releasing her new album The Secret Daughter Season Two: Songs from the Original 7 Series. The album will be out on 6 October. It follows Jessica’s song collection from the first series, which reached No.1 in the Australian album chart.
Australian broadcaster SBS has confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2018. There’s no word on how they will select their act for Lisbon. In previous years SBS has used internal selection, however in recent months there has been speculation that Australia was looking at introducing some form of national selection.
SBS is also in the midst of organising the very first Eurovision Asia Song Contest, due to take place some time in 2018.
What do you think? Should Jessica Mauboy return to represent Australia competitively at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments section below!
A big YES! She can win it for Australia … and I’m not even Australian.
Delta Goodrem confirmed she’s not doing Eurovision
I hope she becomes Australia’s first ever act for Eurovision Asia. She’s like an Asian Beyoncé seriously! As for who goes to Lisbon, there are so many established Aussie artists to choose from like Gabriella Cilmi and The Veronicas.
No. I prefer Delta Goodrem or Samantha Jade.
