Alex Larke “would be honoured” to represent Greece at Eurovision

Back in 2015, Europe came to know the UK duo Electro Velvet and their eccentric, yet catchy entry “Still In Love With You”. It reached its height when Alex Larke sang a scat portion in the middle. And it now seems that the group’s 24th place finish hasn’t put him off from pondering Eurovision in his future.

In a recent interview with Greek web site InfeGreece, Alex, who has a Greek mother, says he would definitely represent her homeland at Eurovision, should the opportunity arise.

“I have told the Greek delegation from ERT that I would be honoured to represent Greece in Eurovision,” he says, adding that since childhood he has spent most of his summers with his family in Greece, and is more than familiar with Greek traditions and history, not to mention the language. “I could speak Greek before I could speak English,” he says. “The Greek language is a part of me.”

Despite Alex being extremely proud of his heritage, not many knew about it back in 2015. “We tried to emphasise the fact that I am Greek, but somehow that message didn’t get through enough, and I don’t know why. I really needed those Greek votes, hahaha!”

For most of his career Alex worked solo, but he teamed up with Bianca Nichols to form Electro Velvet for Eurovision.

Since his Eurovision adventure ended, he’s been working steadily on his own material, and freely admits that despite a less than satisfying result in the end, Eurovision has brought him opportunities like never before.

“Right now I am working on a project — it’s a tribute album to Fred Astaire’s career and work. This is such an honour to be able to sing in a project like this. It never would have happened if it wasn’t for Eurovision.”

But that’s not all for this versatile musician. He is also strengthening his bond with his roots and plans to release music in Greek. “I’m working on songs in Greek as we speak,” he says.

Whatever happens in the future, it’s clear that he would not change a thing about his time at Eurovision.

Will we see him again, perhaps representing Greece? Who knows. Yours truly would definitely not be heartbroken if Alex and ERT join forces and create something as memorable as “Still In Love With You.”
