Back in 2015, Europe came to know the UK duo Electro Velvet and their eccentric, yet catchy entry “Still In Love With You”. It reached its height when Alex Larke sang a scat portion in the middle. And it now seems that the group’s 24th place finish hasn’t put him off from pondering Eurovision in his future.

In a recent interview with Greek web site InfeGreece, Alex, who has a Greek mother, says he would definitely represent her homeland at Eurovision, should the opportunity arise.

“I have told the Greek delegation from ERT that I would be honoured to represent Greece in Eurovision,” he says, adding that since childhood he has spent most of his summers with his family in Greece, and is more than familiar with Greek traditions and history, not to mention the language. “I could speak Greek before I could speak English,” he says. “The Greek language is a part of me.”

Despite Alex being extremely proud of his heritage, not many knew about it back in 2015. “We tried to emphasise the fact that I am Greek, but somehow that message didn’t get through enough, and I don’t know why. I really needed those Greek votes, hahaha!”

For most of his career Alex worked solo, but he teamed up with Bianca Nichols to form Electro Velvet for Eurovision.

Since his Eurovision adventure ended, he’s been working steadily on his own material, and freely admits that despite a less than satisfying result in the end, Eurovision has brought him opportunities like never before.

“Right now I am working on a project — it’s a tribute album to Fred Astaire’s career and work. This is such an honour to be able to sing in a project like this. It never would have happened if it wasn’t for Eurovision.”

But that’s not all for this versatile musician. He is also strengthening his bond with his roots and plans to release music in Greek. “I’m working on songs in Greek as we speak,” he says.

Whatever happens in the future, it’s clear that he would not change a thing about his time at Eurovision.

Will we see him again, perhaps representing Greece? Who knows. Yours truly would definitely not be heartbroken if Alex and ERT join forces and create something as memorable as “Still In Love With You.”

As a Greek, i think that there are plenty of Greek talented artists that i would like to see competing in Eurovision for Greece. I want a traditional or folk Greek song but i doubt Alex would compete with a Greek song. I am so bored with all these crappy pop English songs that my country sent the last couple of years. Greek music and language is so beautiful so if only Alex would compete with a Greek song,i wouldn’t mind see him in Eurovision.

Can we get Marina Satti or Nikos Oikonomopoulos please? Alex Larke would be a complete joke; Electro Velvet was such a disaster!

Does he seriously think that Greece will consider him after that 2015 fiasco? How delusional

Tamta, Eleni Foureira, Marina Satti..Greece has a lot of acts to pick from, Alex Larke isn’t even their last option probably.

Despite bad results the past four years, Greece does actually still have some good singers that could do well at Eurovision. I’d think one of them would have priority over Alex (who does NOT have a career in Greece).

I think Eleni Foureira is the one most Greek Eurofans are pushing for.

You’re absolutely right! Eleni Foureira is our best bet of getting a top 10 placing, in my opinion, especially if she sings in Greek.

I think more Greeks want her to go than they do someone else.

However, Greece does have other good options. I think Stelios Legakis or Vagelis Kakouriotis can do well at Eurovision with the right song. Also, Konstantinos Argiros would be a HUGE fan favorite.

I agree about Argiros but not about Kakouriotis. As I am Greek I know that all of his fans are little girls. On the other hand Argiros would something really good. Alsi I disagree about Foureira, her live singing is not good enough. Search for Stereo soul, they are so talented

Foureira would not have to sing well. She just needs to dance and look good. 2 or 3 background singers would do all the necessary singing. It worked for Helena Paparizou, so it can work for Elena Foureira too. I disagree with Kakouriotis. If they give him a song like this year’s Bulgarian entry, he can do very well. But YES about Argiros. He can do very well, especially if it’s a Greek language song. Imagine a song like “Opa”, but with great looking Konstantinos Argiros (instead of frumpy looking Giorgos Alkeios). Top 10 for sure. Plus, Argiros has a… Read more »
