Ten artists battled it out in Poland’s national selection for Junior Eurovision tonight, but only one could come out on top. And after plenty of ballads and a few upbeat bops, Alicja Rega emerged victorious with the song “Mój Dom” (“My House”). Next stop? Tbilisi and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

Standing in font of a shimmering blue patterned background, Alicja delivered an emotive performance that connected with both the studio audience and those watching at home. She begins her ballad peacefully and confidently before injecting major power towards the end, showing off her vocal capabilities and the control she has over her voice.

Alicja Rega – “Mój Dom”

Tonight’s winner was decided by a 50:50 split between public voting and a jury votes. The three-person jury was comprised of journalist and Poland Eurovision commentator Artur Orzech, Krajowe Elminacje 2016 participant Natalia Szroeder, plus singer Sylwia Lipka. Krajowe Elminacje 2017 runner up Rafal Brzozowski hosted the show.

Alicja will follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Oliwia Wieczorek, who gave Poland their best-ever Junior Eurovision result, placing 11th. Oliwia also opened tonight’s show, performing with host Rafal, as well as reprising her winning song “Nie zapomnij”.

About Alicja

Alicja has been singing and performing since 2010, attending the Centre for Vocal Art in Rzeszow. The director of the school, Anna Czenczek, is responsible for the production of her Junior Eurovision entry “Mój Dom”.

She took part in the first ever edition of the Polish talent show The Little Giants, being selected as the best vocalist of the competition. Alicja has also recorded songs with the Golec Brothers and Lukasz Zagrobelny (one of Poland’s most popular adult artists) in aid of charity.

Since in Polish there is no distinction between “house” and “home”, I think “My home” is a better one translation. 😉

So unoriginal. Almost lady singing a ballad. Come on, it’s a kid’s contest! More entries like Malta, The Netherlands…

I like the song – my number 3 right now. And about the ballad thing – I would rather see JESC full of ballads, which have good production like this one, than JESC with songs similair to Portugal ones this year. That song is so bad, that I want them to withdraw cause that’s just making fun of competition and the child who will have to sing this…

Where can I find that Portuguese JESC song that many people are calling ’horrible’, ’trash’, ’cancer’ etc? I really want to hear if it’s actually that bad

OH MY GOD! That is even worse than their Eurovision 2011 entry. I cringed watching that video, seriously I feel so bad for the kid who will sing that song.

OMG, I laughed so hard. Seems deliberately cringy, like San Marino’s 2012 entry. It is very stupid, sung by a 50 yo man, but remember that ultimate version will be sung by a child. Hopefully, that will some charm to it.

Ps. Doesn’t JESC go by the same strict anti-advert rules as ESC?

How can you guys even review and criticize the song? It’s song by a guy who’s not a musician and has a bad voice. Wait for the kid.

“YouTuber” might sound better with whoever’s chosen to sing it in Tbilisi. Hopefully, whoever represents Portugal will have better live vocals than the guy who wrote it. 😉

Did those guys in the demo video write the song?

And this is the same country which gave us a masterpiece like “Amar pelos dois” at adult’s contest. I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed, seriously.. I hope the kids refuse to sing that.

@Lejla masterpiece? that’s debatable. It’s the video with more dislikes for a reason.

It’s the entry with the most televote points for a reason. Sit.

“Amar pelos dois” IS a masterpiece. One of the best Eurovision songs ever. As Polegend Gogdarina already mentioned it won both televoting and juries for a reason. Plus it’s always like that with Eurovision winners, some people just get jelous and dislike the videos because their countries didn’t do well. You can check Ukraine 2016, Sweden 2015, Austria 2014, Azerbaijan 2011 etc. They all have lots of dislikes.

I’m sorry, this wasn’t my favourite – her vocals were nice, but the song didn’t wow me. It’s more of a safe choice than anything.

It’s classy and very good vocally. The song is pretty though it could be a bit more original. Hopefully will be in top 10.

This is yet another cliche ballad from Poland. I’m sure that they won’t do well with this entry. She looks too adult for kid’s competition with that dress and make up. Sorry, but there’s nothing else likable about this entry except of her nice vocals.

Yes, it’s a predictable ballad. But at least it’s a good predictable ballad.

Poland should stop making choices to please juries. Poland is stronger with televote.
Tbh I don’t like the song at all. Too forgettable.
That said, she’s a better performer than Belarus and Russia. Not difficult though.

I’d rather see Dominika Ptak representing us this year. Both her last year’s entry “Jak Kropla” and this year’s “Ptaki” were worth winning national final

Kids love vlogging so at least it’s going to fit the competition’s theme and spirit. Whether it’ll be a cringefest or not, we’ll see.

You should be lucky because the ban on trademark companies in the lyrical content doesn’t apply to Junior Eurovision! 😀
