Serbia Junior Eurovision 2017 Irina and Jana

Just two days after announcing Irina Brodic and Jana Paunovic as Serbia’s representatives at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017, RTS has unveiled the song these two girls will perform in Tbilisi.

“Ceo svet je nas” (The Whole World Is Ours) comes from songwriter Ognjen Cekic and pop singer Lejla Hot, with the help of Irina and Jana. Irina contributed to the music, and Jana to the lyrics.

The song beat out an internal selection that consisted of two other songs, all of which were judged by a professional panel including the composer Vojkan Borisavljevic; Serbia’s Eurovision 2013 singer Nevena Bozovic, conductor Ljiljana Randjelovic; RTS music editor Cedna Hodzic; and musician Kiki Lesendric.

“Sta je svet bez ljubavi” (What Is the World Without Love), performed by Irina Arsenijevic, finished as the runner-up, while “Ove zvezde smo ti i ja” (These Stars Are You and I), performed by Darija Vracevic, placed third.

The winning song has been met with mixed reactions from viewers. While some deem it a sweet, children’s pop song, others dismiss it as too simple and even silly.

No matter where you stand, the tender lyrics tug on heartstrings and send a positive message worthy of a high five or smile emoji: “Sometimes my thoughts fly, all the way to our planet, where love warms us up. We walk over the rainbow, the multi-coloured stripes are hugging, the sky is smiling.”

What do you think? Do you like “Ceo svet je nas”? Do you think it will do better than “U la la la” last year? Tell us in the comments section below!

Irina Brodic & Jana Paunovic — “Ceo svet je naš”: Lyrics

Original lyrics

Ponekad misli mi lete
Tamo do naše planete
Ljubav gde greje

Hodamo preko duge
Grle se šarene pruge
Nebo se smeje

Tiho, ljudi,
Ne bismo da vaša rec nas budi

Sanjamo san svaku noc i dan
Imamo dobar plan
Jer srce kada daš
Bude mnogo vece, puno srece
I ceo svet je naš

Ponekad igraju mora
Ljube se mesec i zora
Ljubav se budi

Hajdemo ispod zvezda
Željama tu su gnezda
Samo zažmuri

Tiho, ljudi,
Ne bismo da vaša rec nas budi

Sanjamo san svaku noc i dan
Imamo dobar plan
Jer srce kada daš
Bude mnogo vece, puno srece
I ceo svet je naš

English translation

Sometimes my thoughts fly
All the way to our planet
Where love warms us up

We walk over the rainbow
The multi-coloured stripes are hugging
The sky is smiling

Quiet, people,
We wouldn’t want your words to wake us up

We dream a dream every night and day
We have a good plan
Because when you put your heart in it
It becomes much bigger, full of happiness
And the whole world is ours

Sometimes the seas dance
The moon and the dawn kiss
Love wakes up

Let’s go underneath the stars
Wishes have their nests there
Just close your eyes

Quiet, people,
We wouldn’t want your words to wake us up

We dream a dream every night and day
We have a good plan
Because when you put your heart in it
It becomes much bigger, full of happiness
And the whole world is ours

It’s cute and charming – I prefer last years entry (not counting the live performance), but this is also good.

How many times has Serbia (or Montenegro) used “svet/svjet” in their song titles? Especially lately?

I never like Serbia, but this is so cute. The song reminds me of the first JESCs kinds of songs, so I like it, and I hope the juries will appreciate the songs that are thought for kids, rather that the stupid adult ballads that all sound the same.

It’s like Serbia doesn’t care anymore about these contests…
JESC 2016, ESC 2017, and now JESC 2017
