NICOLE NICOLAOU - I WANNA BE A STAR - CYPRUS Junior Eurovision 2017

It’s the sunny Mediterranean island that consistently brings the heat to Junior Eurovision. And Cyprus looks set to do so once more in Tblisi, as Nicole Nicolaou follows in the dance-pop footsteps of Sophia Patsalides and George Michaelides with her entry “I Wanna Be A Star”.

Nicole Nicolaou “I Wanna Be A Star” (Official Music Video)

Released on Friday afternoon, the track sees young Nicole uses her beat to inspire others. Because, despite the apparently egotistical title, the song is all about finding your inner strength: “Put your hands up in the sky/stretch your wings, prepare to fly/ be the hero that you’ve become/sing I wanna be a star”.

The official video is populated by dancing youngsters, and they’re not the only ones moving. Within moments of the track dropping fans were celebrating the arrival of JESC 2017’s first proper bop. One YouTube commenter writes “It’s nice to have a proper uptempo song”, with another commenting “Finally a song that makes you move. Lovely girl, lovely voice and very cheerful song”.

Twitter users were just as exuberant.

What do you think? Is Nicole Nicolaou on her way to becoming a star? Let us know in the comments below.

Everyone seems to love this, but I just don’t. It’s cheesy, repetitive and has a really weird bridge. Nicole’s got a great voice. The verses are quite nice, but the chorus is just a bit tedious. The lyrics are OK.

Aysel and Arash’s “Always” was the entry for Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2009.

I like the fact he is Greek, and not Swedish(I know he works in Sweden but still). I didn’t like Gravity at all.

I fear the worse for Cyprus 2018…

Horrible song. I don’t think it is children-friendly at all and is a bad message to kids. All that beat obstructs the melody, which is almost non-existent

How dare you say that about the Cypriot entry. Therefore, Nicole herself is stuck having to read some nasty comments already! 🙁

Other people have written negative opinions about other songs as well and in particular songs sang by smaller children. If that would be a criterion that wiwibloggs should suspend the comment section. Where I am writing it is a democracy, which still includes free speech.

And besides. I think she sings very well and has a a good presence. It’s not her fault that the song is bad.

It’s a very good song, kids-friendly and catchy. I hope Cyprus finally gets its credit, it usually gets underrated.

I’m not into JESC generally, but I wish all the best to Cyprus!

Watching talented young singers and good songs gives me hope that this island win the actual Eurovision some time.

Good luck to them!

I swear is Cyprus gets yet another underrated score with this, i will lose faith in junior eurovision. Cyprus have consistently sent amazing songs since 2003 and I think their highest has been 8th or 9th when they have deserved victory or top 3 at worst almost every year. So hopefully with a whole pile of mediocre songs, Cyprus can stand out and get top 5 or maybe even win!!!!!

2014 was better, but that was outstanding. This song is amazing, and I hope for a good live performance so Cyprus can finally finish in the top 5.

This is like a weird combination of Marija Magdalena and My Number One.
I love it.

Perhaps because they’re coming of age? You can’t expect every single teen to wear modest clothing, except when wearing school uniforms every weekday.

Does anyone even wear uniforms outside of the UK? Over here no one does.

Most schools in Latin America wear uniforms.

Private schools and most public schools in the rest of the world require students to wear uniforms.

If this is want you find sexy clothing… I mean every girl teen in Europe dresses like this, I mean we are not muslims to tell them not to.

As a Muslim, I find nothing offensive about her clothing. No one should be policing girls’ clothes…and that includes Muslim men who are self proclaimed clerics.

The Doris vibes are strong here. Fun song, but nothing special.

I belive you, I also belive you are Albanian, Turkish or Azeri? Women from those countries usually don’t wear like women from Iran, Irak, Saudi Arabia – I meant those kind of muslims.

Erasmus. It varies in countries in how strict dress codes are for women but you have to be in Iraq or Indonesia to see for yourself how they are able to dress the way they want to.
