Music runs deep in the Sobral family, and we’ve grown to amar pelos dois Salvador and Luisa.

The first family member to hit our radar was Salvador Sobral, the suave crooner from Lisbon who air-trumpeted his way to Portugal’s first Eurovision win. His sister Luisa, an accomplished artist in Portugal and alumni of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, composed the winning song for Salvador and attended his rehearsals when he was unable to travel to Kyiv on doctor’s orders.

But who knew that there was another musically talented Sobral?

Joaquim Cabral, Salvador and Luisa’s maternal cousin, has recently carried on the family tradition, auditioning for ‘The Voice Portugal’. At just 19 years of age, the civil engineering student with stunning red locks certainly does not share the same complexion as his Eurovision cousins. But he certainly does share the raw musical talent — playing guitar, bass, saxophone and piano.

In the audition, Joaquim sang Bill Wither’s classic “Ain’t No Sunshine”, showing off his own skill with jazz and soul. He showcased some real smooth vocals and Salvador’s signature air-trumpet. Blow that brass, Joaquim!

His stirring performance managed to turn the chairs of all four judges — Anselmo Ralph, Áurea, Mickael Carreira and Marisa Liz. He ultimately chose to join Áurea’s team.

He wasted no time in sharing the news on Instagram with his growing fanbase.

Joaquim is not the only family member of a Eurovision star to audition for The Voice in recent years. Chris Sebastian, who is the brother of Australia’s 2015 representative Guy Sebastian, was a contestant on ‘The Voice’ in Australia in 2012, making it all the way to the live shows.

And Melina, the 13-year-old winner of ‘The Voice Junior’ in Denmark in 2014, is the grand-daughter of Ulla Pia, the Danish Eurovision representative from Denmark in 1966. That’s some real deep Eurovision history.

Do you have ‘amar pelos dois’ for both Joaquim and Salvador? Would you turn your chair for Joaquim Cabral? Let us know in the comments below.

I watch this program and have fun .But I thought same thing about Salvador. If Salvador does not mention their relationship , I do not think it is necessary to write it as an article. If only Joaquim did ,I do not think it’s good idea now.

it’s not that uncommon. Many redheads are portuguese.

@Richardinho

Like prince Harry in UK.
Seriously speaking, yes, everything is possible. I’ve heard a news about a Roma couple in Greece that have a blond child, and they were arrested because police thought they kidnapped the child. The DNA test proved that is indeed their biological child. I don’t know if they sued the police, probably not, sadly.

Roma people are still roughly Caucasian and can be blond or ginger. It is only less frequent, as they are a bit darker on average.

The ancestry is very important and one can look like a relative from long ago, even 30 generations.
Another common mistake is to think that it must be visible if you have a black parent. There are white people that have one black parent, and it is impossible to guess.
It is important to be open minded about this, otherwise drama can happen.

That happened in Ireland. Did it happen in Greece too?

Why? Because he is a readhead? There’s some readheads in Portugal too, it’s not because Salvador is part dutch. Portuguese people can be readheads, blonds…
If it is because they don’t look alike at all, it’s normal…I don’t look alike to any of my cousins too…I’m Portuguese, I have dark brown hair and I have blue eyed blonde cousins…

Jana you misunderstood me. I was saying that Salvador is part dutch, which is something not many people realise and think he’s fully portuguese because of his look, but not all dutch people are pale. On the other hand, Joaquin is NOT part dutch, he’s portuguese and a redhead. Looks are deceiving, that’s what i meant. Obviously portugal has many redheads, and i agree. Many ethnic portuguese are redheads, without being part dutch or whatever.

Only Salvador is part dutch, so i meant many dutch people can have dark hair too. (Sorry for the confusion)
