romania selectia nationala 2018

“Eurovision unites Romania”: that’s the theory behind the revamped Selectia Nationala selection. Last week, Romania’s TVR confirmed a much expanded format to their tried-and-tested selection. With five semi-finals and one final, taking place all over Romania, we already knew that this year’s Romanian ticket would be hotly contested.

New details have now emerged as to how the selection process will work, along with some all important dates.

Selectia Nationala 2018 — Entry Opens Soon

Artists interested in competing have a month-long window to submit their entries. They’ll be accepted from November 15 to December 15, by CD or e-mail.

Between December 21 and 22, there’ll be live auditions at the TVR studios for all artists. The jury will then choose who will make it through to the semi-finals, set to start in January.

We know that M I H A I has received seven songs to choose from. Which other artists will be joining him in the mix?

Other than the location for the live auditions, there’s still no news on where the live shows will be held. But TVR have the ball rolling along pretty well so far, and we’ve no doubt we’ll hear more soon.

Whoever ends up being selected will do so in a very special year for Romania. Much has been made of this being the year of Romania’s centenary, hence Selectia Nationala’s growth.

And the winning artist will have a lot to match up to as well. Last week, Alex Florea and Ilinca won the “Song of the Year” for their Eurovision 2017 entry, “Yodel It!”. Can this year’s song match their seventh-placed finish?

I can’t wait for the whole season to begin, for all countries. And I hate revamps, so I hope we will hear the final versions as soon as possible.
