David Lindgren Melodifestivalen host announcement wiwibloggs interview

Swedish broadcaster SVT revealed yesterday that David Lindgren will be the sole host of Melodifestivalen 2018.

The announcement came during a live-streamed press conference from Stockholm. Our Kevin Lee was there and had a lot of questions for David, who was happy to answer all of them.

From his famous dad bod to that sloppy kiss with Robin Bengtsson, he didn’t hold back…

First off, Kevin reminded us all of the meme-orable moments that David Lindgren made as a co-host at Melodifestivalen 2017, including that sloppy kiss with Robin Bengtsson that got looped on YouTube for 57 minutes (you’re welcome) and asked David how he felt about that gig.

The singer says that he had a lot of fun and that he found his place in the show as an artist and as a host: “It was for the first time in my career that I felt like I was in the right spot, so when they asked me whether I would do it again, I asked when and where and how. I mean, yes!”

Another memorable moment was the Melodifestivalen Medley, which showcased David Lindgren’s talents both as a host and a singer, as well has his now famous “pappa kropp”(dad bod), which got him trending on social media. David assured Kevin that he’s working out again now that the kids are older and that he’s got some “mad abs,” which we’re sure that we’re going to admire come February.

Mr. Lindgren is not afraid of presenting Melodifestivalen alone. On the contrary, he says that it’s a big kick for him and it’s even easier not having to co-ordinate with other people onstage. He’s also had some experience this year hosting various company events in Sweden, so he feels ready for the task at hand. After the Christmas tour that he’s got planned, he will take a two-week holiday and then rehearsals will start for Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision.

David Lindgren will host all six shows of Melodifestivalen 2018, including the grand final at Friends Arena on March 10. The last time Melodifestivalen was hosted by a single presenter was in 2009, when Petra Mede did the duty. She later went on to repeat the solo hosting gig when she single-handedly presented Eurovision 2013.

Will David Lindgren ever return as a contestant?

Asked whether he would ever come back as Melfest contestant, David Lindgren says that he would only do it if he had a killer song like Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes”. He has certainly not given up on his dream of being Sweden’s Eurovision representative one day.
