Yesterday David Lindgren was confirmed as the host of Melodifestivalen 2018, and today the first rumoured artist has emerged. Aftonbladet reports that party pop duo Samir & Viktor will be part of the line-up for Melfest 2018.

According to “several sources”, the dynamic duo will return to Melfest. A source with “good insight” is quoted as saying, “Yes, that’s true, SVT has given them a place.”

Reality TV star Samir Badran and fashion blogger Viktor Frisk made their Melodifestivalen debut in 2015 with “Groupie”, an ode to taking selfies with friends. The song was co-written by Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad, who that year had also co-written Måns Zelmerlöw’s entry “Heroes”. “Groupie” went on to the final where it placed eighth.

The lads returned the following year with “Bada nakna”, co-written by “Undo” composer Fredrik Kempe. The song — which celebrates the joys of getting naked in Stockholm’s Sergels Torg fountain — made it to the final, but placed last.

There’s no word yet on what their song for Melfest will be or who will write it, but based on their previous work, we can expect some A-list Melfest talent.

Samir & Viktor are the second of the 28 Melodifestivalen 2018 contestants to be named. They will join Stiko Per Larsson, who earned a place in Melfest by winning the P4 Nästa radio song competition in August.

Samir & Viktor go into the tiles

As well as their Melfest hits, Samir & Viktor have had a number of other hit singles in Sweden. These include “Success”, “Saxof*ckingfon”, “Fick Feeling”, “Kung” and “Vi gör det ändå”.

And they may have another title to add to that list. The pair has just released new single “Rakt in i kaklet”. It literally means “straight into the tiles”, but translates to something more like “let’s go hard!”.

The song was written by “Heroes” songwriters Joy and Linnea Deb and it captures the duo’s sense of fun and dedication to partying. However, Aftonbladet’s source claims the Debs are not behind the lads’ Melfest entry.

Viktor described their new tune, saying “This is a song that will spread joy, energy and make people want to dance until the night is over. We want people to party straight in the tiles, have fun and not think about tomorrow.”

They might not be thinking of about tomorrow, but they will be thinking of later in November when the acts competing in Melodifestivalen 2018 are likely to be announced.

What do you think? Do you want to see Samir & Viktor return to Melodifestivalen? Who else would you like to see in the 2018 lineup? Share your thoughts below!

I love them, but I hope this doesn’t mean we’re not having De Vet Du this year 🙁

Oh silly Charles, having no clue to what Melodifestivalen is. It is a festival above all, a show and spectacle. Not everything is about being a contender. It’s entertainment and that’s where these acts come in. Obviously no one in Sweden takes them seriously and that’s the fun of it, we take it for what it is and enjoy it.

It’s like ESC: Not everyone is a contender and aspire to win. They are silly and out there. But where would the contest be without them?

@Marc: I think it’s because of the language. Samir & Viktor sing in swedish and of course Swedes like more their native language.

LOl, the language has nothing to do with it. No one cares about that. If we loved it so much, why did we let them end up last in 2016?
What makes them a success is 15 year old girls and children. Those are as you know the group who rules the music charts.
They have an established fan-base and that is why they are so successful. They might throw out garbage songs but they are going to be hits. Language is insignificant.

Denis, looking the gap points between David and Wiktoria (last place and runner up) we can’t take any conclusion on that results. We only know there was Frans and the rest.
The fact is Bada Nakna is X3 platinum in Sweden with millions of streams. People enjoyed it.
And yes they have a strong fan base but you need something else to get that amount of streams. I guess in Sweden everybody use Spotify, it’s not only young girls.

Tina, I think being in Swedish helped yes but they also enjoyed it because it was catchy and had the listening on repeat element.

I think language always matters. People like to listen to their own native language in songs. It’s easier to understand every word of the song and easier to sing-along. Samir & Viktor’s songs are great when it comes to sing along. They are also different to others. Their songs are more mainstream than eurovision-type. People don’t listen to eurovision-type of songs. It’s a sad fact..

They have several Multiplatinum Hits in Sweden including Groupie and Bada Nakna, meanwhile Mariette has nothing and Loreen has only Euphoria (like 6 years ago).

Thanks, but no thanks. They have zero talent, and no good material to make up for the lack thereof.

Love these guys. As someone else mentioned – they’re never contenders. but they always bring a high energy fun song that gives greater variety to all the songs in the final.

If it’s anything like their last appearance, they’ll be there only as filler, and we shouldn’t expect them to be contenders.

They can’t really sing, but they have cool songs, great energy (and they’re sexy :P), so why not? 🙂
