She’s a two-time Melodifestivalen veteran who placed third with “Don’t Stop Believing” in 2015 and fourth with “A Million Years” in 2017.

And now Mariette hopes to go a few places better at Melodifestivalen 2018 with the song “For You”.

Before answering questions about her latest Mello bid, the fan favourite wanted to say thank you to all you international Eurovision fans, who helped her win the OGAE Second Chance contest earlier this year.

“Thank you so much,” she says. “It means a lot to me. I cried the moment I heard it. I feel the support out there and I wanna make you happy.”

And she’ll have a chance to do precisely that when she competes in Semi-Final 4 in Örnsköldsvik.

“It’s a fantastic pop song written by the Jörgen Elofsson, who has had a hundred hits,” she says. “I liked it, I loved it the moment I heard it. It’s maybe mid-uptempo. A bit groovy.”

She’s not exaggerating when it comes to Jörgen Elofsson. The Grammy-nominated songwriter is part of Cheiron Studios, where he has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Max Martin (the producer and songwriter behind hits from Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift).

He co-wrote “A Moment Like This” — Kelly Clarkson’s winner’s single on the first edition of American Idol — and later collaborated with her on “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”, her longest-running number one single in the United States.

She’s returning to #melfest FOR YOU ?? @marietteofficial #eurovision #melfest2018

Last year Mariette wowed us with bungee cord dancers. And she plans to dazzle yet again.

“I’m actually gonna use the same choreographer as my two previous years,” she says. “Every time you’re in the competition you want to step it up — a little more, a little more. But not too much. It always has to match the song and there’s cleanness and integrity.”

What has she been up to since last year?

“I’ve been on a summer tour with my band, which I love. I’ve only been playing in Sweden this summer. I would love to come all over Europe as well. But it’s great — my own band and tour manager. It’s a nice group of people.”

All of you international fans may get frustrated that you can’t vote in the Swedish competition. But don’t stress. Mariette feels you anyway.

“I love you. I feel your support. And I hope you’re with me this time also and that I’ll see you.”

I loved ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ back in 2015, it was such a strong Melfest year with the likes of Mans Zelmerlow, Jon Henrik and Mariette. I didn’t like her last year entry too much. Hope she brings something more similar to her 2015 attempt, but I’m afraid it would be something more like ‘A Million Years’.

Recycling the old formula, almost never works.

The Jörgen Elofsson has like two hits and has not been relevant for a while. Totally not excited for such a generic titled song.

Demi Lovato’s song called For You is actually excellent, too bad Mariette doesn’t have Demetria’s charisma, talent and vocals.

She’s very overrated imo she tries to sell something with her looks and then comes up such generic songs

I have such high hopes for Mariette and this song! Jörgen is one of the most successful Swedish songwriters of all time and yes, he co-wrote Trying To Die for Ireland but he can still produce fresh and modern pop music. He has great success with the singer Rhys in Sweden right now.

So far she’s had cute but soulless songs that unsurprisingly tanked in televote and were commercial flops. Hopefully, she shows some personality with this one! 🙂

As if Robin showed personality on stage as well.
Zero charisma on stage, yet he won,

The televote went for Nano and Wiktoria, who showed a lot of personality.

Yeah, is that a typo or has the show changed its name for some reason?
