She’s the Finnish songstress who has been internally selected to represent her country in Lisbon. Now Saara Aalto has revealed she’s on her way to selecting the three songs she’ll take to the Finland‘s national final on 3 March. Saara Aalto has been hard at work writing songs with “Heroes” co-writer Linnea Deb.

When Saara was confirmed as Finland’s artist for Eurovision 2018, broadcaster YLE revealed how her song would be selected. Saara will perform three different songs in the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu. The Finnish public and an international jury will vote to choose the winner.

And now it seems that Saara has been busy writing songs. She revealed on Twitter today that she’s been writing with Swedish songwriter Linnea Deb.

Saara excitedly wrote, “Have written 4 amazing songs with @linneadeb”. She seemed excited about the new creations and wrote, “We just can’t fail together”.

Linnea Deb has also shared photos of her and Saara together in the studio.

A recent Instagram post showed Saara and Linnea alongside the Finnish songwriter and producer Matias Keskiruokanen. He’s previously worked with Saara before, and worked on the production of her 2016 UMK entry “No Fear”.

And Saara also shared a photo of her and Linnea serving snow fairy realness, snuggled up against the cold Helsinki winter.

It’s not known how many of the four songs — if any — will end up in the Finnish national final in March. It’s also not clear if Saara Aalto will work with any other songwriters as part of her UMK songwriting process.

Linnea Deb’s songwriting history

Linnea Deb is a prolific and successful songwriter. She is part of The Family songwriting collective, along with husband Joy Deb and Anton Hård af Segerstad.

Her first Melodifestivalen win was Robyn Stjerbergs “You”, which went on to place 14th at Eurovision 2013. At Melfest 2014, Linnea’s “Busy Doin’ Nothin'” gave Ace Wilder a second-place finish.

But in 2015, things got serious. The Family wrote “Heroes” for MĂĄns Zelmerlöw. As well as giving him a long sought after Melfest victory, MĂĄns then went on to win Eurovision 2015.

The Family later wrote Melfest entries for Isa, Lisa, Ajax and Molly Pettersson Hammar, as well as Loreen’s game-changing Melfest single “Statements”.

Working with other songwriters, in 2016 Linnea Deb also co-wrote Margaret’s Krajowe Eliminacje entry “Cool Me Down”. The song did not win the Polish national final, but it became a huge fan favourite.

With the combination of Linnea Deb’s songwriting expertise and Saara Aalto’s talent as both a songwriter and a performer, Finland is surely counting on the pair to come up with some killer tunes for UMK.

What do you think? What sort of songs do you think Saara Aalto should take to UMK? Share your thoughts below!

The Family does not play! I’m not ready to be blessed with this wreckage but I must be ready for February when the 3 global hits I know Saara Aalto is gonna drop for us easy breezy beautiful bad b*tches Saara Aalto and Linnea Deb (sans Joy Deb).

I wonder if Saara will be involved? t
The non-Aalto Saara. I love her songs.

I would hardly call Loreen’s ‘Statements’ game-changing. Unless the game was ‘making it to the final’ which she certainly changed…

@robyn. UMK aside as a sort of not proper national final this year, what is the NF you’re most looking forward to?

OMG. You guys are so negative, so out of touch with reality, it is almost funny. So let me get it right, she is a Finnish singer who has a continent-wide exposure, who impressed music professionals at the highest level (She made Nicole twerk!), and now she is working with (among others) a songwriter who already won Eurovision and composed a number of masterpieces that made you drool over. ..And you think this will fail. Sure, yeah. You must be the same bunch who claimed Salvador Sobral is ‘dated’. ‘boring’ and ‘unoriginal’.I actually think you must follow another Eurovision website,… Read more »

I wouldn’t be surprised if that webbie comes from Balkan’s south. Those deserve some rusty nails.

When she sang Kuula in Tallinn then she absolutely butchered it and she had cut out everything that made this song unique. I bet that her song will be meh.

Before everyone complaining about the cooperation with a Swede, nothing is confirmed yet. She is said to be also working with a British and a Finnish team and her record label too. She already has a shortlist of 40 songs for UMK.

There’s nothing to say Linneá will write her ESC entries. I see it as them just writing together. Nothing says it’s fro Finland’s ESC entry!

This will not work. Saara Aalto is not doing it the right way. She should not be in esc without winning NF, all the decisions are bad. This shouldn’t be her year. And the song-writers are the most boring, just when Europe has had enough with Sweden. Silly.

After X Factor she revealed that she was offered a song written by Sia, and promised five albums…now she left her record company, doing Eurovision, writing songs with Debs.
I love Saara Aalto, but it’s sad seeing Matt Terry doing so much better than her.

Matt Terry failed to reach the UK top 50 with his two singles and his album is already a flop, so he isn’t doing well at all.

Saara should not be doing this. She should be building on the sucsessfull year last year. Being a known name in Finland and UK should be enough for her today release and album and she should have been performing on X factor this year with her first UK single. Disappointed

Isn’t Deb the writer who inserted the “F” word into Lisa Ajax’s song this year, thinking it was “cool”? Spare us.
