Given that SunStroke Project finished third on the Grand Final Scoreboard in Kyiv with “Hey Mamma”, it was only a matter of time before Moldova confirmed its national selection O melodie pentru Europa 2018. And today broadcaster TRM has revealed major details, including the date of the national final: 24 February.

According to the rules of the national selection, submissions open today. Interested artists can register their three-minute song(s) until 15 January at 4 PM CET. Foreign artists are allowed to enter, so long as they do not exceed 50% of the act on stage. Artists are not allowed to have entered their song(s) in other national selections for Eurovision.

A jury of music professionals will select up to 35 songs for the live audition, which will take place on a date that is yet to be decided. At the live audition, 16 songs will be selected for the semi-final, to be held on 22 February. Ten songs will make the National Final, to be held two days later, on 24 February.

The jury will include a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 11 members who cannot have any relationship to the songwriters or singers. The jury will be revealed at the National Final. At the semi-final 50% of the decision regarding the 10 finalists will be made by the jury, and 50% by the viewers via televote. The same method will be used in the national final to decide the winner of O melodie pentru Europa 2018.

Like last year, viewers will only be allowed to vote from one phone number once per song, in order to avoid vote corruption, although they will be allowed to vote for as many songs as they wish. The winner will go on to represent Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

So far, only Sasha Bognibov has announced his intention to enter his song “Love” in the national selection, although following last year’s success, we expect the number of acts to rise.

Who do you think should follow in the footsteps of SunStroke Project and their best ever result for Moldova? Let us know in the comments!

I always appreciate the effort Moldova puts in their participation. Often an overlooked country, as their Eurovision record is enviable to some countries. I’d love them to send something like that Discover Moldova song that came 2nd last year!
