At Melodifestivalen 2017 he flashed his smile, showed off his dance skills and threw down catchy funk en route to the final.

And on Tuesday Benjamin Ingrosso returned to the game — as it was revealed he will compete in the first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2018 in Karlstad with the song Dance You Off”.

“I always look back at stuff and just want to do better,” he tells our man-in-Sweden Kevin. “My performance last year was okay. I think I can do a lot better. It’s just because I was very nervous — the nerves can be a little bit too much sometimes. So, I just want to relax this time, and have fun and just make a  super cool number.“

And what can he tell us about the song?

“Oh, it’s amazing. I love this song and it sounds so fresh in my ears. Lyrics-wise it’s actually ‘Good Lovin” part two. But melody-wise the song is something different. It’s kind of a falsetto song — I’m going up there, which is gonna be very difficult to do it live.”

“I did it this summer, so it has been a while since I wrote it, but I still listen to it every day. I was actually crying yesterday, when I heard it, because I thought it was so good.”

In his semi-final he’ll be competing against Sigrid Bernson, the professional dancer turned singer who was his dancing partner on Sweden’s Let’s Dance. Is that awkward for them?

“No problem at all, it’s super fun,” he says. “We’ll have a good time together.”

And it seems that Benjamin won’t need to consult her about choreography. Despite his dance background — and last year’s fierce moves — he suggests he won’t be making many shapes on stage.

“Maybe not actually,“ Benjamin says of the choreography. “When you sing ‘Dance You Off’ you maybe don’t have to dance someone off.”

But that doesn’t mean he’s letting go of ambition.

“I want to do something that has never been done before. Last year I just wanted to show my song. I wanted to have like a classic number, classic pose, dancers, me and a great song. This time I want to do something — oh shit! That’s super cool, super fresh. Because the song is already done and I love the song. Hopefully, I’ll make something great.”

And in recent months he has certainly done that.

His most recent single “One More Time” has quickly become his biggest hit yet.

“It’s actually playing on the radio more than “Good Lovin”,” he says. “It’s just turned to gold!”

I think commenters here are being most unkind to Benjamin Ingrosso. It’s actually tantamount to bullying. Shame on the commenters, and I wish Benjamin all the best; he’s a talented musician and a lovely person.

Imagine crying over a generic dance song. I bet he weeps to Swish Swish and Havana, too.
