She’s the youngest winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, having taken the title at just 13 years and 7 months of age back in 1986.

And this April, more than 30 years after she brought Belgium its sole victory in the contest, Sandra Kim is set to make a special appearance at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam.

Organisers behind the original Eurovision preview event broke the news last night via Shownieuws SBS6 and later confirmed it on their Twitter account. They’ve watched with great delight as several Belgian and Dutch media have picked up on the news.

The “J’aime la vie” singer — now 45 — will forever hold the record as youngest singer to win. These days acts must be 16 years or older by the time of the competition. Today thirteen-year-olds must instead compete in Junior Eurovision.

Her success at Eurovision marked a remarkable turnaround for Belgium, who had finished last in 1985.

Just a year later the spirited teen took to the stage and delivered an effervescent performance of her French-language song, which celebrates optimism and the every day.

“I see people break their backs as if life added up to zero,” she sang. “Me, I’m fifteen years old and I tell you, Whoa, whoa…I love life!”

Her look captured the feel-good, slightly zany spirit of the 80s: she wore pink trousers, a matching bow tie, and a white top with extra large shoulder pads.

She received points from each of the 19 other juries, and topped the field of 20 .

Eurovision in Concert 2018

Eurovision in Concert — the longest-running Eurovision preview event — is celebrating its tenth anniversary on 14 April. So organisers are thinking big and will stage the annual concert inside Amsterdam’s AFAS Live rather than their traditional venue — the smaller (but perfectly formed) Melkweg. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster Netherlands

Edsilia Rombley— Eurovision 1998 and 2007 singer — will host the event, accompanied by Dutch Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas. The two hosted the event together once before in 2015.

Billed in the official promo video as “a special XL edition”, Eurovision in Concert is making a major statement by moving to the spacious AFAS Live. It might ring some bells with you as the host venue for Junior Eurovision 2012. At that time it was known as the Heineken Music Hall.

Are you excited to see Sandra Kim at Eurovision in Concert? And have you bought your ticket yet? Let us know in the comments box down below.
