She’s the Ukranian diva who almost won the 2017 national final. Now Tayanna is back for revenge, as she launches her 2018 campaign. And this time she wants the public to choose her song.

Earlier this year, Tayanna made it to the grand final of Ukraine’s national selection with her intense ballad “I Love You”. It picked up top points from the jury in the grand final and was the fourth-ranked song in the televote.

This put “I Love You” on the same number of total points as O Torvald’s “Time”. The tiebreak came down to the televote favourite, which ensured that O Torvald would be the act performing on home turf in May.

But now Tayanna is making another bid for Eurovision and she’s letting the public guide her on song choice. Tayanna confirmed her Eurovision plans on a recent Instagram post.

Under a photo of her holding her trophy for Breakthrough of the Year at the M1 Music Awards, Tayanna wrote, “This year, I decided again to try my hand at the Eurovision Song Contest. I will do everything that depends on me to represent Ukraine at the competition in Portugal.” Y’all, she is serious!

In conjunction with Lux FM and NRJ radio stations, a poll has been launched for the public to weigh in on which song Tayanna should enter. Four songs have been shortlisted from Tayanna’s new mini album Trimaj mene (Hold me).

The songs are “Kvitka”, “Mliyu”, “Sila” and “Trimaj mene”. The online poll will run from 13 to 15 December.

“Kvitka”

“Mliyu”

“Sila”

“Trimaj mene”

Tayanna is the second artist confirmed for a national final comeback. Last month, fellow 2017 finalist Melovin revealed he was in the process of working on an entry for 2018.

The broadcasters have also confirmed the third and final member of the national final jury. Eugene Filatov — musician, producer and frontman of The Maneken — will join Jamala and Andriy “Verka Serduchka” Danylko on the judging panel.

Which song should Tayanna take to Ukraine’s national final?

We also want to hear what you think. Listen to the four songs and vote for the song you think Tayanna should perform in Ukraine’s national final. You can vote for as many songs as you like, but you can only vote once so make it count!

Sila is my personal favorite. Kvitka would probably make the most instant impact on ESC. I get it if she picks Kvitka, even though I would prefer Sila. Both are really good, though. In any case, it would be refreshing to have a song in Ukrainian.

Kvitka sounds contemporary, sth different from what we’ve heard last year and has a clear oriental influence.
On the other hand, Sila is similar to 2017. A ballad beautifully sang by Tayanna with this amazing voice.
Both are really good and can stand in Eurovision stage.
So glad she’s back! She should definetely go to Eurovision some time!

Kvitka is amazing!! Could be my winner if it gets sent! The rest of them for me are okay but i am certain Tayanna would do well with any of these songs!

Even though I know Kvitka will be her song for the Ukrainian selection,
Sila might even be my favourite track at the moment (not of all the 4 but generally)

@ Yeah I agree..
I prefer “Sila” too..
Even though I also voted “Kvitka”..
These 2 songs stand out..
The rest 2 are nothing special.

Unexpectedly but initally I’ve remembered here Sila the most. It’s like her previous entry but balanced in right way with more elaborated lyrics and stronger atmo, still not sure of an impact though – I remember Illaria that got much weaker staging in final and was forgotten with similar song. So I guess it’s between it and (dated) Kvitka that will come under Kvinta’s producing knife. The title track downgrades from dreamy start to monotony uneventful chorus, barely will be voted through despite even production. From EP, Shkoda is easy-listening bop that despite ‘girly’ lyrics, could’ve been put for vote… Read more »

Shkoda is the lead single from her album and is a hit in Ukraine right now, but it was released before September 1st so it’s ineligible for Eurovision.

Thank you for info. I haven’t seen it at itunes though, but it’s okay, it’s rather for an airtime.

I am not seeing your connection between wanting the public to select her national final entry and her being “desperate to be in Eurovision.” She clearly is passionate about representing her country in the ESC. She simply wants to enter with the a song already backed by the public.

Nice reach though! 🙂

Honestly all songs are strong but I hope Kvitka or Milyu wins the poll and I would love her to go with one of those songs to Eurovision.

i really like all four to be honest, although “Kvitka”certainly stands out at present. By the looks of it at the moment a few other’s feel the same way too.

I really like Tayanna’s tone in her voice, the up tempo, slightly ethnic sound of “Kvitka” would be well suited on the big stage in Lisbon if this track is chosen. I personally felt she was robbed last year with “I Love You”. There was a lot of crimes committed last year in my opinion.

I am really glad she has come back to give it another shot.

Ukraine picked the right song this year. Quality rock over euroballad cliche? Easy choice! To be honest, I found I Love You awful! So I was very happy with their winner

Howeever, I find lots of good songs among those she can select from here. Only one song is like I Love You. Thankfully. Maybe a nice electropop in a modern style could be good for her?

I’m so glad I am not the only one who did not like “I love you”. That song was screechy and dated, I’m happy that she brought better songs this time around.

I don’t get the love for the extremely bland generic ballad “I Love You”? It was just a substandard ballad, similar to handful of ballads we see in ESC each year. All these songs are miles above, but in particular “Kvitka” stands out, it’s catchy and memorable and would stand out in a sea of ballads in ESC, it would also be a fresh relief to have a ethno-pop track and uptempo entry from Ukraine again after years of depressing stuff, we miss the fun-loving Ukraine that took ESC by storm in the mid 00’s starting from Ruslana and finishing… Read more »

I agree completely “I Love You” was sooo boring and dull.
I voted (here) “Kvitka”. I love etnic elements in songs.

I don’t like it either.
I think Ukraine would do bad anyway at Eurovision this year, so o.torvald was a kind of “scapegoat”.

After this year’s masterpiece “I love you” I’m afraid none of her these 4 songs will match the expectations. Too bad… I’m actually rooting for Melovin, the public will vote for him, let’s see what the corrupted jury will have to say this time. Will they rank low the public’s favorites (like in 2017 and 2016)? Or will be on the same same wavelength for the first time?

2016?? WHAT? Jamala was public’s favorite, she won the televoting at both the final and semifinal of their national selection.

See the article below, she won because of the televote, NOT on the jury, too! In case of the tie the rule said: televote winner goes to Eurovision. Same thing happened this year…

And, after “I Love You”, wouldn’t it be smart to shake genres up to avoid comparisons and monotony?
And it totally works in Ukranian.

They all sound kinda generic except Trimaj mene and thus it’s my favourite but I’m torn on whether it’ll do well, it might get lumped with a low televote score like all the female led ballads did this year or it’s going to win lots of people over with it’s folksy charm and could possibly get 2nd or 3rd. (Ukraine won’t be winning after the disaster this year with the whole Russia fiasco) Sila is my second favourite but it is a bit of a generic ballad and despite some amazing ballads with vocals and staging to match the female… Read more »

“Trimaj mene” leaves a lot of opportunities for staging. The other three sound generic to me too, but the fans would never vote for something as exotic as the first.

Kvitka? For someone who has Lyublu in her discography, these seem sort of low quality. Whatever she chooses is probably going to get the final (in Lisbon) but she could have submitted something better.

Trimai Mene is very eerie and unexpected, could be an Onuka song with all those Soviet-era glitch noises, I kind of like it

I can see Sila on that big stage in Lisbon with some sort of orchestral setting around her.
I can see Kvitka as well, maybe something like her performance on the giant crystal at the Emas or like her Hvava performance on the voice.
Either way she has my full support. She’s a star that should bring Ukraine back to the top 5 next year.

Kvitka has this oriental flair and soviet pop production to it while keeping it catchy and artistry. Love it.

WOW! Welcome back Queen! To be honest, all of these entries are good. However, my choice would definitely be Kvitka, followed by Sila. Kvitka really differs from the other three. It’s really catchy, and it would bring a different auro to the contest. I already liked it, the first time I listened to it. Sila is a ballad, but that’s nothing negative imo, since it’s a really strong one. The instruments fit perfectly with Tayanna’s voice, and as her voice is beautiful, the result is satisfactory. I really hope that one of these two gets selected, I would even select… Read more »

I think that, just like the poll results so far show, that she should choose Kvitka or Sila. In my opinion none of these songs get close to the chills I got from ‘I Love You’ last year. She was definitely robbed.

Ahh this robbed legend and powerhouse vocalist, I’m so happy she’s coming back. She should put these new tracks on Spotify for us to stRIHm them, though.

Kvitka is the furthest from Eurovision-friendly she could go. Literally sounds like an album tracks that was added last minute to fill up the tracklist.
Mliyu is cute but a bit too repetitive, the production isn’t exactly memorable either.
Sila is your typical ballad, unimpressive and wouldn’t go far.
Trimaj mene is dreamy, well-produced and contemporary. SEND THIS ONE.

I love all of the songs! But I want Kvitka to win since it’s upbeat and I did not expect that from Tayanna. Anyways here’s my top:https://youtu.be/vKObdXzu9Nw
