Feli unveils Buna de iubit as Selectia Nationala 2018 song

Yesterday, Romania‘s broadcaster TVR revealed that pop star Feli was among the 72 acts for Selectia Nationala 2018.

And today she has shared her song “Buna de iubit” (Good For Loving), from her debut album Eu sunt Feli.

You can listen to “Buna de iubit” here:

https://soundcloud.com/muzicanouaromaneasca/feli-buna-de-iubit-original

The track is an upbeat, happy-go-lucky song about an optimistic girl who is ready for love. The infectious rhythm is punctuated by the the onomatopoeic hook “ay ay ay” — and the tribal instrumentals are giving us life!

Lifted off Feli’s first album Eu sunt Feli (I Am Feli), which was released on 14 November, “Buna de iubit” sounds like the perfect dance track to fight off the plethora of ballads which have inundated Selectia Nationala 2018 so far. And given the talented singer’s unbeatable vocals and star power, we wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up as her — and Romania’s — ticket to Lisbon.

According to our sources, Feli is considering changing the lyrics to English if the song does well, in order to reach as many hearts as possible.

Who is Feli?

Thirty-one year old Feli Donose got her first major break back in 2012, when she was one of the contestants on The Voice of Romania. Although she did not win The Voice of Romania that year, she is arguably the show’s biggest breakout star of all the seasons.

At the time, she was nicknamed “Romania’s Adele” not only because of her raspy voice, but also because she was a bit heavier. Meanwhile, via stomach surgery, Feli shed the extra weight and, in the process, gained even more popularity on Romania’s very demanding — and apparently very shallow — pop music scene.

In 2014, Feli released her first single, “Cine te crezi?” (Who Do You Think You Are?). The R&B track was a major radio hit and cemented her staying power. The success of the song made us choose Feli as one of our dream artists for Eurovision in 2016.

Feli’s biggest hit to date is “Timpul” (Time). In the video, she changed her fiery red mane to a sultry blonde, which she’s stuck to till the present day.

Feli will perform the song “Buna de iubit” in front of the jury tonight. The 60 semi-finalists will be announced two days from now, on Friday 22 December.

What do you think about Feli? Is “Buna de iubit” good for Eurovision? And should she change its lyrics to English? Let us know in the comments!

It’s nothing amazing but it’s way less crappy than all the horrors Romania usually sends to Eurovision… And at least it’s in Romanian (of course, after Salvador’s win, we can expect a lot of countries to suddenly rediscover they have a national language to sing in).

Why not.

*When I say it’s nothing amazing, I mean it’s enjoyable but super repetitive. I think her other song Timpul that Wiwibloggs posted a couple days ago was a 1000 times better, so I expected something more.

In any case, I’ll take anything instead of that hateful crap rapper. That guy’s a joke, don’t inflict that on my television again.

If she will go to esc she has two other versions – spanish and english, but if romanian entries were so traumatic for you, i hope you are fine now. Use romanian entries as toilet break, please, your health must come first.

… Huh? Who said she had to sing in another language? Romanian is fine, I think it’s great when countries sing in their national language. That song is just not her best, it’d be the same in another language.

And I’d never miss the Romanian entry, they are the most hilarious part of the show. 😉

I’m happy you are so willing to ”hold on” during romanian entries.

oh fun this is not a common style for eurovision but it’s definitely refreshing
i LOVE the romanian in this, this might be one of the first radio-friendly ESC selectia nationala songs in the language

An upbeat song at last!
I think it will be better in English. It’s catchy and fresh.
I don’t know if it will be a success in Eurovision, but it’s Romania. They always qualify. Personally, I enjoy it.

Not a huge fan of it but at least it would be an upbeat song and in a native language. My favourite song in the selection is Every Little Thing by Sergiu Bolota if it is indeed part of the selection. https://youtu.be/1KDYTmmrJ18

This is rubbish. But what am I talking about? This is the same country which got good results with the songs like “Yodel It!” and “It’s my life”. They will still do well if they are going to send it (undeservedly).

I quite enjoy it, and it would be amazing for Romania to send it, because I usually hate their songs…

well, it’s not a “Timpul”, but I kinda like it. It’s very tribal indeed, African roots. This song has potential for a great staging.
You need to be very open-minded to enjoy it, so I don’t expect the Eurofans to root for her.

Are you saying that Eurofans are not open minded? They are. Don’t listen to those who want serious/art. When Eurofans will forget to have fun, it’s a sure sign that the end of the world is near.

So why rap and rock don’t have much space at ESC?
Of course, there are many Eurofans out there that enjoy good music, regardless the style…but there are also a big part of them who hate and criticise musical diversity.

I like diversity, I like O.Torvald. But some people don’t want diversity, and they say about any light/happy/fun song that is a joke that only wants to troll. This is unfair.

Well I didn’t like O Torvald, but I liked Softengine. But I never like “joke” acts such as Romania and Montenegro 2017, Romania 2013 and Montenegro 2012(there are other countries sending joke entries too, but these came to my mind right now)… But I have nothing against fun/upbeat songs like Israel 2015/17 and Spain 2016 for example.

I respect your opinion and taste, but I can tell you for sure that Romania never sent a song with the purpose to make fun of ESC. It was always televote, and televoters genuinely liked those songs. No other intensions.

Romania 2013/2017 are not joke acts. Both are very original songs and I enjoy listening to both of them. You may not like them, that is fine, but they are definitely not troll acts. And I actually do like Space as well, it was just terribly sung. But the song itself was not a joke. Just because someone has a different style and an upbeat song, does not mean that they are jokes Unfortunately, that is exactly what many people think (at least I feel like many people do so). You do not call Lady Gaga a joke, do you?… Read more »

I know that Romania just wanted to have the televotes, but the song is a joke for me, I mean I’m sure this is not what Illinca and Alex do for their music. And that song from Momtenegro is just “gay”, I mean I hate it, and it is not original. I have to say Yodel it was original, but that doesn’t mean it’s good, for me it’s cheap. And I didn’t say every fun/upbeat song is crap, like I love some upbeat songs like I metioned that before, and I know what a “joke” act is.

Ilinca said she can sing many genres, but yodelling is ”the cherry on the cake”. Why do you think yodelling is joke, after all? It’s tradition in many countries. I understand you dislike the genre, but is not joke.

I said it’s a joke because look at it, rapping + yodeling + cannons on stage + sheep on the background all together – I think you get the picture now.

Make Eurovision Sad Again

Sara

The actress from the video Timpul is romanian actress Maia Morgenstern that was Virgin Mary in Mel Gibson movie The Passion of the Christ. Is a big thing if Feli could have her in the video.
About the Eurovision song, I expected nothing less, Romania will bring something upbeat, mark my words.

She has to win. I mean, the song is like a breath of fresh air among so many outdated dull songs from the NF. I’m team Feli and team Jukebox, the one with the Filipino girl.
