San Marino: Remaining finalists for 1 in 360 announced
45For some lucky artists, Christmas has definitely come early. San Marino’s 1 in 360 has revealed the remaining finalists for its next judging round. And though we were only expecting seven finalists, it seems that it may be eight in total completing the list.
1 in 360 Finalists: Reaction
Among the finalists who stand out are former national final hopefuls Judah Gavra and Sara de Blue. There’s also some worldwide talent, as Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Makura makes the list.
Also included are the Maltese pair of Franklin Calleja & Jessika. An earlier version of the list — published by SMTV, before later pulled — suggested that the two artists may be working together as a duet.
In the final list, however, both acts are listed separately, with 1 in 360 explaining they “weren’t able to get the list down” to 11. Time will tell on this one!
The new finalists join the three previously announced wildcards: Emma Sandstrom, Giovanni Montalbano and Irol. You can see the full list of who’s made it through below:
San Marino: 1 in 360 Finalists
- Camilla North (Norway)
- Emma Sandstrom — Fan Vote Wildcard (Finland)
- Franklin Calleja (Malta)
- Giovanni Montalbano — Video Likes Wildcard (Italy)
- Irol — San Marino Wildcard (San Marino)
- Jennifer Besky (Germany)
- Jessika (Malta)
- Judah Gavra (Israel)
- Sara de Blue (Austria)
- Sebastian Schmidt (Germany)
- Tinashe Makura (Zimbabwe)
Of course, it’s not all good news for some old national final favourites. Elisa Kolk, Dinah Nah and Karl William Lund are amongst those who have been eliminated at this stage. With so many entries, it was always going to be a tough cull!

Did I misread the post, or are they preparing to narrow these 11 down to 8?
December 26, 2017 @ 4:46 am
No Hillary Smile? She had one of the best songs there plus a lot of votes!
December 25, 2017 @ 5:26 pm
Tinashe or Jessika please!!
December 24, 2017 @ 9:17 am
STUPID SYSTEM SAN MARINO SHOULD CALL IT A DAY FOR EUROVISION THEY JUST NOT GOT A CLUE
December 24, 2017 @ 8:21 am
Really glad to see Tinashe Makura on the list! I’ve been rooting for him since the beginning and I’m so happy for him now. It’s great to see artists from non-eurovision countries that don’t have particularly well-known music scenes get a chance to grow their careers here.
December 24, 2017 @ 4:24 am
Jessika for San Marino. She deserved to represent Malta with many song Ultraviolet, Hypnotica(won televote but.juriesfull of HOD from many countries ruinned her.chance)…
December 24, 2017 @ 1:47 am
Awesome line up. Now I hope their songs will be great too. Hope the NF won’t be completely low budget so the stagings will give them a good first impression with the fans and the press!
December 24, 2017 @ 1:33 am
How about we do something completely random and send Tinashe Makura to Eurovision?
And send a happy, easygoing song that everyone can listen to.
December 24, 2017 @ 1:15 am
William and Deban, it’s too bad you guys haven’t been chosen to participate! But the entire (Eurovision) world is looking forward to all of your upcoming preview videos! National selections, internal selections, interviews, the year has officially started! Good luck and enjoy the new season!!
December 24, 2017 @ 12:51 am
Semi-impressed with list, but not so sure about a few of them, including the two Germans and the one Italian wildcard guy. OTH, really pleased to see Emma (personal fave), Franklin Callea, Jessika, Sara de Blue and Irol! Felt some artists like Gloria Zaccaria, Dinah Nah or Elisa Kolk should’ve made it. They had a HUGE task sifting through the hundreds of acts, so there must be something they saw in these 11! Anyway, congrats to all the finalists! 😀
December 23, 2017 @ 11:35 pm
Im really disappointed not see Hilary Smile in this lists. 🙁

If this selection process proves to be successful for San Marino, do you think it could encourage other micro states (Andorra, Luxembourg, Monaco) to return to the contest?
December 24, 2017 @ 12:22 am
Are you asking us, or Chris Halpin (the post author)?
Each broadcaster has different commitments, so it would depend on what other shows they have going on. I always thought Luxembourg could have returned with an internal selection if they wanted to anyhow; they just don’t want to. I don’t know if a new selection process would change that – I think there has to be enough interest in the contest beforehand from the people running, viewing and monestizing the broadcast stations. So potentially, advertisers, viewers and executives would all have to get something good out of it, otherwise it’s a “no”.
This leads to the obvious question: What does San Marino’s SMTV get out of this? Advertising revenue? Good Viewership? Fulfilling a national cultural programming quota?
December 23, 2017 @ 11:03 pm
It seems the Austrian jury including Zoe and her dad favoured the German and Austrian less known people they already had connections with. They may as well have given ORF the chance to internally select for SM lololol. It would have been nice to have more San Marinese acts or even some of the neighbouring Italian entries at least (which there were a lot of and good quality ones too). So what’s the next round and how do they/we choose a winner?
December 23, 2017 @ 10:49 pm
Fantastic final list. 🙂
Like WIlliam, I too am interested to see if Irol will have a home advantage, or not.
December 23, 2017 @ 10:02 pm
Elisa Kolk already had good song, so did Dinah Nah. I think they came in too late..
December 23, 2017 @ 9:31 pm
Elisa Kolk was so good 🙁 and she already had a great song ready 🙁
December 23, 2017 @ 8:04 pm

December 23, 2017 @ 7:48 pm

December 23, 2017 @ 7:42 pm
Zimbabwe had me shooketh
December 23, 2017 @ 7:35 pm
Irol featuring Emma Sandström NEEDS to happen.
December 23, 2017 @ 7:20 pm
This is a decent selection! The selection process seemed pretty chaotic at times, but from it they’ve ended up with 11 good singers. My dream winner would be Irol dueting with Emma.
December 23, 2017 @ 7:20 pm
I can’t believe Judah Ben Hunk (as my friend and me nicknamed Judah Gavra) is in the San Marino final
December 23, 2017 @ 7:09 pm
#Team Emma! <3
December 23, 2017 @ 9:31 pm
Yeees!! She’s my winner too!!

December 23, 2017 @ 6:59 pm
Tinashe Makura he is sooooo amazing,,i hope he wins
December 23, 2017 @ 6:58 pm
Happy to see Jennifer Besky make it as one of the finalists. I think she would do great at Eurovision if chosen.
December 23, 2017 @ 6:45 pm
Hopefully Irol will win. 🙂
December 23, 2017 @ 6:40 pm
Thank the Eurovision gods that Vasilije Ojdanic didn’t make the cut!
December 23, 2017 @ 6:59 pm
I mean, if it had to go for an actual jury of professionals… was it really on doubt he wouldn’t have a shot?
December 24, 2017 @ 3:56 am
I don’t think he would have had a shot with any country to be honest, because he steals music from other artists, he lies through his teeth (he lied about having a throat tumor and then sent a song to the Slovenian selection the day after), he has no star quality, and of course he can’t sing to save his life. He seriously needs to think of another ambition because Eurovision and/or a music career doesn’t seem to be in the cards for him at all
December 23, 2017 @ 6:33 pm
Irol!!!!!!!
December 23, 2017 @ 7:07 pm
Also glad that none of those other cheaters qualified.
December 23, 2017 @ 6:32 pm

Yasssss!!!
December 23, 2017 @ 6:43 pm
I know San Marino is a small country, but I wonder if the entire nation will get behind him and give him an edge in the televote? Will be interesting to watch!
December 23, 2017 @ 6:25 pm
Sad that Elisa Kolk and Dinah Nah didn’t make it 🙁 but still amazing national final!!
December 23, 2017 @ 6:34 pm
