Amir OG3NE Marco Mengoni Ruth Lorenzo Iveta Mukuchyan

Incredibly, 2017 is almost up. And that means one thing — the return of our annual Top Tracks countdown!

As usual, the team from wiwibloggs voted for their favourite 2017 releases and recordings by and featuring Eurovision stars. Songs which competed at Eurovision or national finals were excluded (they’ve been analysed to death in our jury reviews), as were artists who have yet to compete on the Eurovision stage.

After considering well over 100 songs, we finally settled on our top 50. And now we’re ready to share it with y’all. We’ll publish five tracks daily until we reach our number one.

What song will join Loreen’s “We Got The Power”Emmelie De Forest’s “Drunk Tonight”Lena’s “Traffic Lights”, and Loïc Nottet’s “Million Eyes” in our Hall of Fame?

The countdown continues!

10. Amir “États d’amour”

What we said: Singing of broken hearts, unrequited romance and a love seen in “films en noir et blanc”, the Eurovision 2016 representative brings an edgy, avant-garde sound, which melds harmoniously with his dulcet tones. His musical style has evolved since his “J’ai cherché” days. This is less happy-clappy and more artistic. The track, sung entirely in French, straddles the boundary between classy and contemporary, delivering a chef d’œuvre song in a way that only the handsome crooner can. (Sebastian)

Previous top tracks: “No Vacancy” (#28 in 2017), “On Dirait” (#7 in 2016), “A ta manière” (#35 in 2016), “Ma vie, ma ville, mon monde” (#42 in 2016)

9. Iveta Mukuchyan “Depi Nor Irakanutyun”

What we said: If there’s one thing we know about Iveta, it’s that she slays in any reality. And she wants you to know that you can too. The empowering lyrics suggest that it’s never too late to move towards a new truth or to create a radically new vision of yourself. Fallen down? Get up and shine. Put in box? Push through those flaps and start over anew. This is bound to get all of Armenia on the dance floor as Iveta serves up euro-club realness. From the catchy chorus to the infectious instrumental sections, this once again feels contemporary and pan-European while retaining a strong ethno-Armenian identity. (Antranig)

Previous top tracks: “Hayastan Jan” (#22 in 2017)

8. Ruth Lorenzo “Good Girls Don’t Lie”

What we said: The Spanish songstress’ latest offering is an absolute banger. From the first note to the last, she plays with folk, pop and rock, all layered over a strong up-tempo beat that builds to seventh heaven. As ever her voice — part grit, part soul, pure power — is the anchor of it all. (Jordi)

Previous top tracks: “99” (#9 in 2015), “Echo” (#26 in 2015), “Gigantes” (#10 in 2014)

7. Marco Mengoni “Onde”

What we said: Guitars, percussion, and electro beats fuse with the noise of breaking waves to create a pulsating tropical-lite dance track. Marco’s suave vocals slide over the music as he compares his love life to the ocean – “Like waves in the sea, Which do not remain the same, They turn and run away, We are waves in the sea”. Even those of us who don’t speak the lingo can gather what’s going on, as chants of “I go away from here” are sprinkled throughout. (Padraig)

Previous top tracks: “Ti ho voluto bene veramente” (#24 in 2015), “Io ti aspetto” (#30 in 2015), “Guerriero” (#41 in 2014), “Pronto a correre” (#10 in 2013), “Non Passerai” (#25 in 2013)

6. OG3NE “But I Do”

What we said: The Vol sisters took to the Gouden Televizier-Ring Gala stage looking glamorous in metallics and rocking dramatic hairstyles. But most importantly, they totally slayed their live performance. Amid dancers and pyro, they took over the runway and delivered their signature tight vocal harmonies. The song itself has been co-written by Swedish pop legend Zara Larsson. Her record company has been proudly bragging about the collaboration(Mike)

Our Top Tracks of 2017 ranking is determined by votes from a panel of wiwibloggers. They are Josh, Robyn, Jonathan, William, Mario, Edd, Mikhail, Antranig, Mike, Renske, Jovana, Sebastian, and Padraig.

I’m a little disappointed Sirusho’s Huh-Hah didn’t make the top 50. I feel like it was her best work since Qele-Qele.
