Tamar Kaprelian Depi Evratesil (1)

She recently showed off her style in a glitzy photo shoot with News.am Style — working a series of high-fashion looks on the streets of Yerevan.

And sometime between that and appearing on PanArmenian TV and Hanrayin Radio, Eurovision 2018 hopeful and Depi Evratesil candidate Tamar Kaprelian has managed to perfect her track “Touyn Ari” (Poisoned).

As the Scottsdale-born stunner prepares to unveil her song to the world in 2018, she paused to share the lyrics exclusively with wiwibloggs.

As she told us previously, the song was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, as hinted at by the theme of poison. In so many ways her lyrics sets up another romance for the ages — and one defined by conflict and confusion.

“Don’t ask why, I get high,” Tamar says. “Poison running through my veins, I think I’ve gone insane…Drugged by your love, love, I pull, you shove.”

Tamar, who runs the Nvak Foundation, worked on the lyrics with some of the organisation’s talented youngsters (Yana, Sanahin, and Ovsanna to be precise).

Mixing Armenian and English, the track seems to build on Tamar’s recent work, which has a definite ethnic edge and pays homage to her roots.

In November she released the music video to her cover of “Noubari Boye”, a classic Armenian folk song. You can watch it at the end of this post.

In that video she portrays a gypsy-esque wanderer searching for her lover across a series of stunning landscapes. Wearing traditional clothing, she traverses deserts and fields — sometimes on horseback — looking for love. If getting lost helps us look like that, then we’re shutting down Google Maps immediately.

What do you think of Tamar’s lyrics? Is it getting you in the mood for Depi Evratesil? Read ’em below and then sound off in the comments section.

Touyn Ari lyrics — Tamar Kaprelian

Verse:
I never ever quite expected
To be with you and to need to stay
Hypnotized, hallucinating
I was lost, trying to find my way

In the untouched sands, under all the stars
We were holding hands, then we went too far

Pre:
Don’t ask why
I get high, high

Chorus:
Touyn ari, ari im ser
Siro touyn em khmel
Poison running through my veins
I think I’ve gone insane

Touyn ari, ari im ser
Siro touyn em khmel
Drugged by your love, love
I pull, you shove

Verse:
Here we are in a new dimension
In a trance that we’re settling in
Speaking tongues we never imagined
Flowing like adrenalin

Hear the rise of cries, in the endless sea
We were locking eyes, sinking too deep

Pre:
Don’t ask why
I get high, high

Chorus:
Touyn ari, ari im ser
Siro touyn em khmel
Poison running through my veins
I think I’ve gone insane

Touyn ari, ari im ser
Siro touyn em khmel
Drugged by your love, love
I pull, you shove

Bridge:
Yes oo doo enk khentasnell
Siraharvadz jubvell
Yes oo doo enk khentasnell
Siraharvadz jubvell

It seems so catchy tune with some dancing vibes. The less the lyrics, the more room for dancing. I heard the first part of the song. It’s very similar to Qele Qeke and even better. I will vote for Tamar. I’m afraid tho that the First Lady Rita Sargsyan will intervene and corrupt the whole thing by forcing to pick up Mher. This will be the end of a liberal selection for another 5 years.

Hey Steve! listen- if Mher has a better song than us, he totally deserves to win.

That said, I think what Madame Sargsyan will love is our story; young Armenian songwriters wrote the song- the youngest being 14-year-old Sanahin. Madame Sargsyan loves helping children’s causes, so I think she will really connect with Nvak’s mission, and the work we are doing to improve the music scene in the Armenia.

@Steve – I thought the first lady stopped intervening into matters she is not an expert at after she forced the Armenian broadcaster to select Emmy in 2011 and went as far as to make the selection of Boom Boom herself. All of this was very well documented and we saw the disastrous result it led to. With that said, is there a way to hear Tamar’s song? I know it’s not set to be released until mid January.

Florinho: lol. what should I be writing about? war? women’s right?

love is such a universal topic! And we wanted to write a song that appeals to everyone. Regardless of one’s religion, race, sexual orientation.
