Madame Monsieur Mercy Destination Eurovision

Bonjour Mesdames et Messieurs…and bonjour Madame Monsieur!

Today Emilie Satt and Jean-Karl Lucas — the electro-pop duo known as Madame Monsieur — confirmed their participation in Destination Eurovision, France’s Eurovision 2018 selection.

“We are proud and excited to announce our participation in Eurovision,” the pair wrote on their official Facebook page. “Our song is called ‘Mercy’. It tells the true story of a little girl born aboard…the SOS MEDITERRANEE France last March, while her mother was fleeing the violence of her country.”

“‘Mercy’ is a song that is particularly important to us. It’s a positive song that shows that there is always hope even when everything seems lost, as long as we can keep a little humanity.”

“Count on us to carry it as far as possible in this unexpected adventure of the Eurovision race. We’re determined and boiling!!”

SOS Mediterranee is a group which works for the rescue of people in distress in the Mediterranean Sea. Their harrowing work seems to have inspired poignant lyrics, which the duo teased on their Facebook post.

“I was born this morning, my name is Mercy / in the middle of the sea, between two countries, Mercy / it was a long way and mom took it / she had me in the skin, eight and a half months”.

Their sound may be dreamy, but their way of working is very much steeped in reality. As their team say in their official biography:

“Each of their songs is a photograph of an emotion, as if caught on the spot, in an urgent need to tell the time and to understand those who make it.”

Oooooohhhhh quel beau et prometteur lundi ?????IL SE PASSE DES CHOSES !! #vudici

Their romantic words about work extend to the song, which seems as spiritual as it does contemporary. From the clip it’s clear this is an homage to love, life and perseverance — all set to an enchanting electro beat.

DESTINATION EUROVISION – KNOWN COMPETITORS

The remaining competing songs will be revealed over the coming days, in the build-up to the first semi-final. The first semi airs on 13 January 2018. Nine songs will compete in each of the two semi-finals, and four songs from each semi will go to the grand final.

You can follow the official Eurovision France 2 Facebook page for the latest updates.

What do you think of the “Mercy” snippet? Will this be one of the four songs to qualify for the grand final? Share your thoughts below!

Ok, they keep up the good work! Another good song, with a nice message.
I believe France is in the right direction. Things changed, there’s fresh air and original songs that can stand on a Eurovision stage.
Looking forward to the remaining acts!

When I learned France was holding a national final, I was skeptical: why change formula when internal selection had worked really well in the past 2 years?

But the more I hear about the artists they managed to bring in, the more I’m impressed: these people have TALENT and the few notes we could hear are very promising. I can’t wait for the actual show!

It’s getting hard not to be impressed, France, song after song is quality! At this rate, there may eve. be a French winner in here somewhere or for sure a top 10 in May. I desperately want to hear the full version of this and ‘Mamma Mia’

What speed William ! Gold job ! I’m french and I love reading your news about Destination Eurovision. I’m so proud of my country today and all these good songs. I’m still waiting for the songs of Nassi (very broadcasted on the biggest radio in France with his hit “La vie est belle”), Lisandro Cuxi (winner of “The Voice” 2017), Lucie (2nd in “The Voice” 2017) and Manon Palmer (I love her song “Étrange ami”). But I’m just a little bit disappointed about the number of singer who took part of “The Voice”. They could have took Sasha (in 2016,… Read more »

I think Destination Eurovision is the National Selection that will be at par or exceed the song qualities from Melodifestivalen

Stellar job from the French broadcaster on how they are handling this year’s contest. I love they are tapping into French music scene with folks who are on the verge of breaking out. The song snippets have been inspiring and eclectic. Congrats. I hope they get a good result. Nothing seems manufactured to be a Eurovision song. Instead you just have music. With heart. With feelings. They should be proud.
