Bulgarian broadcaster BNT has dropped keyword hints for the final three songs vying to be chosen in the country’s internal selection process. The broadcaster has now revealed clues for all 13 songs in this year’s internal selection process.

First is a song with an ambitious title, “You Will be the Change”. It’s described as a “pop-rock track sung by a male vocalist” and is “mid-tempo”.  And it’s music with a message. The song has a “message focused on ecological issues”.

Next is “Love Never Lies”. The graphic includes “beauty” crossed out, possibly paying tribute to Bojana Stamenov’s top ten banger “Beauty Never Lies” from 2015. Are the two songs similar? All we know is that the Bulgarian hopeful is described as “Eurodisco”.

And finally, there is “A New Home”. It’s described as a “contemporary jazz song” with a “chill out” feeling. Following Salvador Sobral’s win in 2017, jazz-inspired performances are looking to be one of the dominating themes for Eurovision 2018.

THE 13 SONGS IN BULGARIA’S INTERNAL SELECTION

The Bulgarian broadcaster has one month to pick their entry for Lisbon. The 13 projects will be assessed by four different focus groups. The broadcaster aims to not just find the best song in demo form but to find the best entry for Eurovision 2018.

The act will be selected by 31 January, but it won’t be revealed to the public until 12 March. In the six weeks between selection and announcement, the song will be given a post-production polish. Afterall, with two top-five finishes in the last two years, Bulgaria has a track record to uphold.

Earlier today, BNT revealed details of how fans can become part of one of the focus groups that will be used to rate the 13 songs. Potential panellists just need to get on Twitter and tell @bg_eurovision why they’d be the ideal candidate.

What do you think? Which of the 13 songs sounds like a winner for Bulgaria? What song would you most like to hear if you were in the focus group? Share your thoughts below!

You know what I realised? In the tweet saying who wasn’t representing them I noticed something interesting. Bulgaria didn’t participate between 2014-2015. For 2015 it says All (meaning that the returning artist isn’t from that year). However for 2014 it only lists off a couple names. I thought that was interesting does that mean someone from 2014 is interested?

“You will be the change” doesn’t sound promising.
“Love never lies” could be like “Spirit of the night” as I read somewhere in the comments. However, I believe it will be sth like “Beauty never lies”.
“A new home” seems the best among the three.

Nevertheless, when the song is selected I hope we’ll be able to listen to all 13 songs.

“You Will Be the Change” seems to be something like “Lonely Planet”. Not too promising.

“Lover Never Lies” ? “Spirit of the Night”? Siegel? Help!!!!

“A New Home” ? This might be a good song. It might also be a not-so-good song. It might be “Amar pelois dois”, but it might also be “Lorraine”. Jazzy songs are always risky ones, especially since we can expect to hear a couple of them in Eurovision 2018.

I don’t think so, they aren’t listed in the 13 so they must have been in an earlier selection round. #5 is so much fun 😛 if you download them from the source you can see more information about them (the year they were made, the people who wrote them, the names of the tracks)

BNT said that these songs are only for testing the online platform. They are not from the selection

Here’s my problem: I’m a musician. I need to hear the melodies, the harmonies, the musical structure, the expression to make a decision on a song… none of these things are being offered here. So I can’t make a decision or give feedback at present. Sorry to be so negative.

No need to apologise! You’re not alone in feeling that way 🙂
I can see the benefits of approaching the selection this way from a publicity perspective, but it’s frustrating for fans to get teasers for songs we might never get to hear…

Artistic direction is a 10/10

But man I hope we know the other candidates apart from the winner in March. All these teasers are making me curious!

Do we also hear the songs considered besides the eventual winner?

Bulgaria should be awarded for the way they approach eurovision. Their communication strategy, the way they assess the songs is simply amazing. Well done and hope other countries will follow their example.

You Will be the Change needs to change its name, regardless of the quality of the song itself.

A New Home. Bulgaria is a melting pot of cultures so a chillout jazz song could be awesome if done right, and we’ve heard crappy Europop and poprock a million times before
