It’s the venue where Eurovision fans and members of the press go to let their hair down in the evenings — and where numerous Eurovision acts come to connect with their biggest supporters.
And while the precise location of EuroClub 2018 remains a secret, officials have tonight revealed that it will be in the Cais do Sodré neighbourhood of Lisbon. The news came in an RTP news bulletin.
The area’s rise from seedy riverside district to trendy hotspot has been well-documented by the media. In recent years it has become an epicentre of cool dotted with chic bars, popular clubs and elegant restaurants — all within steps of the Tagus River.
Eurovision fans have already pointed out that the area isn’t particularly close to Altice Arena. According to Google Maps it’ll take Eurofans at least 30 minutes to travel from the arena to the Cais do Sodré train station and metro stations.
EuroClubbers looking for some grub after a long day of work will be thrilled to know the area is home to Mercado da Ribeira — a massive food court with canteen-style communal tables.
Its endless stalls serve everything from seafood to hamburgers to sushi to traditional Portuguese tarts. And best of all it’s open late (until midnight Sunday to Wednesday and until 2am from Thursday to Saturday).
It’s also a short walk to Praça do Comércio, which will host Eurovision Village.
Eurovision Village, a key gathering point for fans during the Eurovision Song Contest, hosts live performances from Eurovision artists throughout the Eurovision fortnight.
It’s a great place for people to soak in the atmosphere of the event, regardless of whether they have tickets to the actual competition or access to EuroClub. It’s also a great way to mix with locals.

The RTP news bulletin also mentioned that RTP will reveal the hosts of the 2018 contest on Monday, 8 January.
Watched by more than 180 million people this year, Eurovision can define a TV presenter’s career and take it to the stratosphere. It’s also high stakes. Portugal wants to put its best face forward — and it needs to look good and ooze warmth and humour.
Among the rumoured front-runners are Catarina Furtado, who hosted the two most recent editions of The Voice of Portugal; Silvia Alberto, who has hosted shows like Operação Triunfo and Got Talent Portugal; Filomena Cautela, who you’ll recognise from the Festival da Canção 2017 green room; and noted TV host and soap actor Pedro Granger. Actually, Mercado da Ribeira has a massive space for concerts/clubbing inside also! 😀 Maybe the Euroclub will be there, it makes total sense! It’s said that the hosts might come from outside of RTP. I’m thinking that the duo Cristina Ferreira and Manuel Luís Goucha is not excluded. If EBU is going for chemistry, I think there are not many people with the chemistry that these two have.

Other duo, and this is from RTP, are Filomena Cautela and Inês Lopes Gonçalves. They compliment each other very well.
RTP clearly said the hosts would come from their channel.

I don’t know anything about these potential hosts, and I’m sure whomever is chosen will be great – but it would be nice if the pool was a bit wider. Presenters of old used to be esteemed “serious” broadcasters from current affairs, or news anchors – I honestly would prefer a competent & even headed host with gravitas over some inexperienced young thing from light entertainment.
We have had some great presenters in recent time, but by the same token, some have been awful. I’m sure RTP won’t let us down!
Ideally, for my taste, the host should be a solo middle-aged woman. At least 40.

I think a mix of both is good- but your point somewhat holds. In Vienna, despite not being great, I thought Arabella, the seasoned journalist and racial equality campaigner, was a better presenter than the other two who did entertainment. Pairing Arabella with a comedian might’ve been good.
Catarina Furtado is 45. She’s the most expected choice. 😉

I think it’s going to be Pedro and one of those three ladies. I prefer only two hosts, the third is usually useless.
