The Czech Republic is one of at least five countries who will return to a national final format this year. And broadcaster Czech Television has now confirmed details of Eurovision Song CZ. They’re keeping it simple, but the public will play a part.

The broadcaster has revealed that more than 400 entries were received for the new national final. Of those, 36 came from Czech creatives. From those entries, six finalists have been selected.

CT has already dropped hints about the identity of the finalists. In mid-December, black and white photos of the finalists’ footwear were revealed. This was enough for some fans to identify them as Jakub Ondra, Mikolas Josef, Dasha, Honza Zampa, Victor, and Annabelle.

Of those six, Mikolas Josef and Jakub Ondra have been confirmed as participating in the contest.

But their identity will be confirmed this coming Monday, January 8, when the broadcaster reveals both the singers and their songs. Music videos for the songs will be presented at a press conference.

CT is keeping it simple. Eurovision Song CZ will be entirely held online, with no live television broadcast. But it’s still being run with a serious voting structure.

Voting will also start on January 8. It will be conducted via the Eurovision app and voting will be free of charge. Voting is open to all, however, only votes from users within the Czech Republic will count.

The online vote will be combined 50/50 with an international jury vote. Their scoring will be revealed two weeks later, on Monday, January 22.

Then finally a week after that, Monday, January 29, the total results will be compiled and the winner will be announced.

Lie to Me is basically a ripoff of Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo

Martina Barta was criminally underrated last year. And the JOWST remix for the song was particularly good. I’m hoping for the Czech Republic that they’ll do better this year.

don’t worry, people 65+ don’t even know about Eurovision in here 😀 tbh I don’t think that many people will vote, there is still small interest in Eurovision

There are several potential problems with this: 1) Voter fraud online, much like one San Marino contestant is being accused of. 2. As stated by Purple Mask, a singer could potentially be weak in live performance. 3. Online voting narrows down the age group of voters. Probably around 50% of all votes will be from children and teens, around 45% from young adults, and 5% or less from anyone over 50, not to mention that the votes from 65+ group will probably be almost nonexistent. That probably narrows down the genre, as I can’t see teens and kids overwhelmingly going… Read more »

Well, I am a teen and I really loved Amar Pelos dois. My sister is a teen and she also loved it! Every friend I asked was a fan of Amar Pelos dois… Maybe we Youngsters here have real good taste in Music or maybe we’re just weird idk.

Sorry, this was perhaps a bit ageist from me. I don’t think that teen cannot like ballads, slow songs or more pensive songs. I just think that it is a statistic probability that something very upbeat will win if thousands of 10-30-year-olds are the huge majority of voters. Nothing wrong with that either. There are many excellent upbeat songs.I hope that Czech voters pick something amazing of any genre. Of course, people are people and I am sure that many 15-year-olds loved Blackbird, while many 80-year-olds loved Hey Mamma, but I think there is some kind of age inclination that… Read more »

@Nickc – ”Romania is in danger for the first time, due to lack of quality submissions.”

This year Romania has better songs than last year. In 2017 was only the yodel, and far behind…Mihai and Petale.
Just because last year had such an obvious winner, 2018 can’t be weaker even if it tries.
I bet will be one of the African style songs Serena-Safari or Feli-Buna de iubit. That African style remembers me of the group Bow Wow Wow – Fools Rush In.

A totally non-live selection process. That could be risky if one of the performers isn’t as good singing live, but good luck to the participants. 🙂

France, Norway, Sweden, Bulgaria and Czechia will certainly qualify due to their elaborate, transparent and inclusive national finals. Finland will qualify as they grabbed the moment and chose a singer with international reach. I bet Greece will flop die to their corrupt and restrictive selection process. Slovenia can go both ways. I have a feeling Romania is in danger for the first time, due to lack of quality submissions.

If you look at the facts they’ll flop, they barely made the final with Demy and so called dream team. But as you said who knows, maybe they have a gem.

It’s only January and most of the songs haven’t even been released so how do you even know which countries are going to qualify?
