Whatever the dish, it frequently benefits from a little spice. And today producers behind Destination Eurovision followed that advice, confirming the singer Max Cinnamon for the semi-finals of its Eurovision 2018 selection.

“So excited to announce that I’ll be participating in a show called ‘Destination Eurovision’ to choose, from 18 participants, who will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest in May!” he wrote on Instagram shortly afterwards.

The young singer, who began playing the violin at the age of four, has his feet on the ground and his head locked squarely on his shoulders. Fame soon beckons, but in his preview clip he says that he loves France and he loves fishing with his father.

And, perhaps best of all for you Eurovision fans, he sees the contest as an opportunity to play his own music rather than covers.

He’ll do so with a song called “Ailleurs”.

That may mean “Elsewhere”, but the sound is very much here and now.

As you can hear in the clip, it has a laid-back vibe that makes us think of sipping cocktails on the French Riviera. There’s a subtle Shawn Mendes vibe as well and it reads as very radio-friendly.

Interestingly, Max shares his name with Pepsi Max Cinnamon — a limited edition range of soda released for Christmas 2005 à la saveur de cannelle. Let’s hope his Eurovision journey is as fizzy and sweet!

DESTINATION EUROVISION – KNOWN COMPETITORS

The first semi airs next Saturday, 13 January. Nine songs will compete in each of the two semi-finals, and four songs from each semi will go to the grand final.

In the meantime, vote in our poll for your favourite of the first nine acts.

You can follow the official Eurovision France 2 Facebook page for the latest updates.

Nice. Very radio friendly. Not very excited, I need to see it live.

i am afraid that the french songs are more radio friendly than they should. A song should be make an impact on stage, not to feel nice if you just listen it on the radio

I respectfully disagree. Staging and choreography can be worked out later. Having a listenable song is the most important thing at this stage, in the run up to the National Finals. There’s plenty of time between January and May to produce effective staging and choreo, in my opinion.
Peace and love. x

He has taken down all his own songs off the social media because he was advised to do so by his publisher

TV5 Monde will broadcast the show internationally. That means anyone in Europe who has got the channel will be able to watch it LIVE on TV. That’s so cool !

TV5 Quebec will air it in Canada, so that makes me excited! It’s the first time the channel will show a Eurovision national selection

Yey. So my family in Ontario can watch it live, but me in the UK… probably can’t unless there’s an online stream or something.

Chilled out folky tripping music. This would perhaps suit Eesti Laul better. 🙂
Okay i’ll tell the joke…
Max Cinnamon – he’s sweet! (Cinnamon, sweet. Yeah?) :p

If he doesn’t introduce himself with, “Here I come, I am Cinnamon,” he’s missing a cross-promotional opportunity.

Will you accept the Cinnamon challenge, by sending Max to Lisbon?

Do we all get a taste? (Too naughty? :o)
The strange thing is, I don’t think “Pepsi Max Cinnamon” ever made it to the UK. Although I think I saw it in Canada.

Masoe is missing in the list at the end. ^^

“mes propres chansons” being referred to in the video seem to be his OWN songs, as he does do lots of covers, not proper songs as referred to in the article 🙂
