Conchita Wurst performs “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman — and interviews Hugh Jackman

She’s the bearded lady who won Eurovision in 2014, bringing a message of tolerance and acceptance to Europe. And Conchita Wurst rang in the New Year in similar style, covering equality anthem “This Is Me” taken from Hugh Jackman’s new musical film The Greatest Showman during Berlin’s Willkommen 2018 New Year’s Eve Celebrations.

Performing in front of the iconic Brandenburg gate, and rocking an indie queen of beanies look, Conchita lent her soulful vocals to a gorgeous performance of “This Is Me”, which is also performed by a bearded lady in the film and has been covered by international pop sensation Ke$ha.

The song’s message of acceptance chimes well with Conchita’s own discography and is a natural fit for a Conchita cover, bringing a message of hope to Europe for 2018, after a year where equality and tolerance has been challenged all around the world.

Conchita’s association with The Greatest Showman didn’t start with performing the track during the New Year’s celebrations in the German capital though.

In fact, last year she sat down with the stars of the film Hugh Jackman and Keala Settle to discuss the film in more detail.

The film, which tells the story of PT Barnum’s Circus which became a haven for those shunned by society and turned them into appreciated stars, teaches a message of tolerance we can all take into our hearts in the New Year.

Wurst also covered the track together with Keala and a host of UK YouTubers for a rousing ensemble performance recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios and the London YouTube Space.

What about Conchita’s music career?

Of course she hasn’t left the hills of Austria behind for Hollywood altogether. In fact, Conchita’s latest release is a collaboration with Ina Regen, covering “Heast As Net”, originally performed by Hubert von Goisern. “Yodel It” fans will enjoy the fact the track features extensive yodelling by the Eurovision 2014 winner.
