As Asmik Shiroyan prepares to compete in Depi Evratesil for the second year running, she has exclusively revealed to wiwibloggs details of her song and world-renowned songwriting team.

“My song’s name is ‘You & I’,” she says. “I have been privileged and honored to work with three of the most successful and talented worldwide songwriters. It’s a big pleasure to work with Marli, Neil and Haj my team have worked with many worldwide famous and great artists including Louis Tomlinson, Kelly Clarkson, Kylie Minogue and more.”

Neil Ormandy is a multi-platinum selling songwriter, who co-wrote James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go,” which landed at #1 in 9 countries, sold 8+ million copies worldwide, and scored him 2 BRIT Award nominations. He’s worked with Aloe Blacc, Demi Lovato, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Kelly Clarkson, Hey Violet, Pixie Lott, and incredible electronic talents like Eric Prydz and Deorro. Neil has made a name for himself as a left-of-center pop songwriter.

Marli Harwood has a successful career that’s spanned over 20 years. She has achieved multiple platinum records across the world, has millions of sales to her name and has amassed over 600,000,000 million streams across her releases. Among them is Kygo’s worldwide hit “Stole The Show”, which won the ASCAP award for EDM song of the year (2016). She also co-wrote the single ‘Aqualung’ by Swedish artist Miss Li, which is included in her Swedish Grammy nominated album “A Woman’s Guide to Survival”. On top of this Marli was originally signed as an artist to Universal and has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry including Kylie Minogue, Olly Murs as well as Sigala and JP Cooper.

HAJ is a writer and producer based in London. He has worked with artists including OMI, Anton Powers & Pixie Lott, Fedde Le Grand, Kideko, Blonde, Vato Gonzalez, Julian Jordan, Mike Magoo, Kiko Bun and Becky Hill. As an artist he recently released his first single featuring Olivia Holt through Hot Hot/Universal Records.

“After working closely with the team, and developing the song we understand that this song can put Armenia on a new level in the global music industry,” she says. “I believe that I developed the best team and we have a real chance to create history for Armenia in Eurovision.”

“Together with the songwriters we wrote for everyone a description of ‘You & I’. The writers of this song wanted to write a positive feel good song that can be universally relatable to everyone who listens to it.”

“The song focuses on the moment in a relationship where anything is possible and focuses on the importance of love. This is conveyed to the listener with its catchy lyrics and bright house piano, taking them on a journey led by Asmik Shiroyan’s soaring vocal melodies.”

I’m clearly not from Armenia but sounds awesome. Neil Ormandy song with James Arthur was the biggest hit here in UK in 2017, I did not realise this type of writers get involved in Eurovision. Is the song online somewhere? I see on the posts here they say it will be released on 15/01 but I can’t find this information anywhere else? Can someone confirm?

Yep. January 15th is the release date!

This is what happens when you are out of internet or a few days 😀 So happy for you Asmik, hope your song will be as cool as you are. Good Luck. fingers crossed for you <3 <3 <3

Good Lord! These comments are so embarrassing. Who cares who wrote the song. What matters is to send the best song/singer. Just forget about your own favorite singer. Watch the live performance and vote for the song/voice/performance you like. It is really as simple as that.
Btw, there is a huge difference between a country going song shopping every single year to Sweden and a country allowing the singers to collaborate with non-Armenian composers.

Emma

absolutely agree with you! Problem is, some ppl cannot see the difference

Fuuuu Iveta Mukuchyan…Hasmik Shiroyan is better…we remember what she did last year..but this year Hasmik will win

Iveta made a mistake last year but that doesn’t mean Hasmik is better than Iveta.

How lovely though. When Azerbaijan sends songs from foreign composers, armenians be like “Oh no! They are buying songs from other countries!”. But when an Armenian singer does the same, they are like “happy to see we have decided to go western level”. Lmao what a hypocrisy seriously..

Ron
Guest

The difference is Azerbaijan does it EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Armenia on the other hand hasn’t even sent this song. But, even if they decide to send a song composed by a foreigner, they’ve proven that they can present Europe their culture and their talents and do very well.

@Rafael, probably you don’t know but there’s strong hostility between these two nations. So they are using with every little chance to throw shade at each others’ countries. I gotta say both of them send good songs to Eurovision, but these type of arguments and fights can be really annoying. I mean why do you care what nationality is the songwriter of a song? What matters is the final product, you either like the song or you don’t. The people are looking for this type of small arguments when they don’t like the particular country the song represents. I didn’t… Read more »

@NodikoGEO – I’m pretty sure Rafael is well aware of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and probably has a lot of opinions about it too. I do agree with you that both Armenia and Azerbaijan send good songs to Eurovision and the bickering can get very annoying. But what I don’t understand is why would Armenians care about what Cyprus sends to Eurovision?

I am guessing will be a worldwide hit song for Asmik, these guys are really serious staff.

Eurovision is a song contest where songs represent countries. This means even Eurovision winning song composed not by Armenians will be something artificial just like Azerbaijanian victory with Swedish song. What I loved in our Eurovision participation was the fact that nerly always our songwriters were ARMENIANS. Sorry Hasmik – no vote from me no matter how good the song is. Only one thing will make me to vote for Hasmik if the choice will be betwen her and Mher Armenia. Fingers crossed for Gata Band, Tamar Kaprelian (good for Tamar for not provincial way of thinking and having 100%… Read more »

Was waiting for your comment :)) Of course, you won’t vote for her, cus you are her #1 hater! stop leaving you disgusting&provocative commentaries. You are just jealous cus she has a strong team:)) Mger Armenia has a better voice&artistism than Tamar, so considering the fact that she also has the first lady by her side it is very possible to see Asmik & Mger in final. ))) AND btw, history proves that Armenian songwriter can’t win the contest. SO I am totally in this with Asmik. She did a smart move not choosing Armenian songwriters. We need global thinking… Read more »

Why do you reply me so agressive? That’s my opinion and my taste. I don’t hate anyone in Depi Evrotesil except one person (Mher) and the reason I do it is common with many other people. Btw your way of thinking is very provincial – “foreigners do better than we do”. In 2014 a song composed by local could have won if not the scandal around Aram and Conchita and weak live performance. So you are very wrong underestimating your copatriots. Portugal is another example how you are wrong. And what if an American-Swedish song wins this contest for Armenia?… Read more »

you’re comments make no sense. asmik working with british song writers that she has gotten to know for a while is completely different to azerbaijan using a mel fest reject by swedish composers that they will never meet.

So AzerbaijanIans didn’t know their songwriters for a while but Hasmik had a dinner with her songwriters? LOL. ridiculous

@Avat must possibly feel under fire. He shells bombs on Armenia, but his/her pic with which s/he appears was used by Artsvik (Armenian entry) in her stage show. I wonder how Avat or Azerbaijani government hasn’t made a complaint to WiWI so far. It’s so Azerbaijani to hate everything which is somehow connected to Armenia and always send an official letter by their Foreign Affairs Ministry. LOL

Anyone else find it funny that the guy spurns the Armenian born singer for the American born singer in the name of “Armenian purity”?

Idk
Guest

Oh really? It proves how much poor-minded you are. Noone needs your votes cuz Europe will vote for her. You are saying like yoi voted for past and entries and thats why they ” won” LOL

Michael

I would say this sounds promising, but just because you get big name songwriters to work on your songs doesn’t mean the song will be good. Remember that Believe was produced by Timbaland. We’ll see how this song sounds.

Ron

@Michael – yes, and Believe won in 2008 LOL

Well, I’m glad they’re finally working with international songwriters. I don’t really like the Eurovision songs composed by armenian songwriters, they’re either messy or old-fashioned. And this year there’s Tamar working with the same guys who made Qele Qele and for sure it’s going to be another ‘shake-shake’ type of song from them or another Qele Qele. They need to try something fresh and modern. 🙂

Avat
Guest

Armenia sent songs like Not Alone and Lovewave. We never lacked with something different and modern. Meanwhile such songs like Qele qele , Dum Tek Tek etc are things I really miss in recent eurovisions as contest has become full of bland midtempo songs which are safe. Im sure this time a shake shake stuff will win. Last year Moldova proved that people need some fun in eurovision

Tamar Kaprelian
Guest

🙂 my song is not similar to Sirusho’s entry. Fear not.

“Poison” is modern, uptempo, ethnic (has Armenian and English lyrics), and written by amazing young ARMENIAN songwriters. Our youngest songwriter on the team is a 14-year-old girl named Sanahin.

The goal of a contest like this should be to showcase talent from the country. Because we have SO much of it. And I am so proud, that my entire team- from producer, to mixer, to clothing designer, to graphic designer- ALL ARMENIAN talent.

Time for us to win this year.

It’s a bu**sh** you don’t care abt Armenia at all. Just admit it. & stop promoting yourself using your “country love”. And tell your provocative supporters to stop throwing trash toward such talented singers like Artsvik and Mger Armenia. At least they are more patriotic.

Ian Gallagher

“At least they are more patriotic.”

And is that a good thing??? What the actual F!?? o.O

good lord, Vahe. you are rude and angry. not sure why.
I have worked in Armenia for 2 years silently with TUMO and Nvak.
and we have an amazing opportunity to use a platform like Depi Evradesil to launch the careers of songwriters and singers.
what work are you doing to better Armenia?

tamar kaprelian

Vahe: also. Mher is AMAZING. And as are all the other singers in Depi Evradesil.

FYI: Artsvik isn’t competing this year lol. That said, SHE IS AMAZING TOO!

It is absolutely different from Qele-Qele. Somehow your song was leaked for 2 hours and I listened to it almost 10 times. It’s really good, radio-friendly and catchy song and gets better after every single listening. You and Asmik are my favs. Can’t wait to see you performing live!

> my team have worked with many worldwide famous and great artists

“Worked with” can mean anything. Jonas Thander also “worked with Taylor Swift”, as in, “played saxophone on one of her songs”…

Hayk

Might help if you read the whole article , there was enough information on the who wrote the song and their credentials and does not look like anyone was playing saxophone 🙂

Polyna

The rest of the article also says mostly “worked with”. Or “co-wrote”, but nowadays it can mean everything from “was a principal songwriter” to “swapped two notes in a song”.
