He was born in Lisbon, Portugal before moving to France with his family at the age of nine.

And now Lisandro Cuxi — the winner of the sixth season of The Voice: la plus belle voix — is in the mix to return to his place of birth as a competitor at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

On Sunday France 2 confirmed his participation in Destination Eurovision, rounding out the 18 acts that will sing in the semi-finals.

He’ll sing the song “EVA”, which is about “a young woman who fights every day to improve her life.” She sounds like a bit of a mystery, too. As he sings: “Eva is nothing but a heartache…nobody ever sees her face.” Girl has things to do!

He says he’s ready to put on a real show — and the song certainly sounds like it lends itself well to that. The snippet sounds tightly produced and pulsates with on-trend backing. But ultimately it’s just a backdrop to showcase that stunning voice. Listen and admire.

About Lisandro

When Lisandr0 moved to France as a nine-year-old he didn’t speak any French. He was originally discovered by the Angolan star — and the coach on The Voice Portugal — Anselmo Ralph.

In 2015, at the age of 15, Lisandro competed in the second French series of The Voice Kids. Week after week he gave impressive performances and showed off his R&B vocal styles. He eventually made it to the grand final where he finished as runner-up.

Lisandro then graduated to season six of The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix. He impressed judges with his audition of Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, and went on to be coached by M Pokora.

Lisandro did one better than his time on The Voice Kids. He not only made it to the final, but managed to win the whole thing.

DESTINATION EUROVISION – SEMI-FINALISTS

The first semi-final airs this Saturday, 13 January. Nine songs will compete in each of the two semi-finals, and four songs from each semi will go to the grand final.

In the meantime, vote in our poll for your favourite of the first nine acts.

You can follow the official Eurovision France 2 Facebook page for the latest updates.

There are so many good songs (and singers), it is almost a waste. They could have done 3 national finals out of this selection, and could have had 3 potential ESC winners 🙂

first semi-final of destination eurovision will be recorded today at 7pm in France, Masoé has already posted a photo of his staging on his twitter: https://twitter.com/MasoeOfficiel
It seems it will be a beautiful show….

Destination Eurovision – Sanremo – Festival da Canção…I’m all about those this year. Melfest’s lineup doesn’t impress me, last year was already boring imo.

I don’t know why y’all complaining! His song is good and only adds up to probably the best national selection we’ve heard so far. This is how you do diversity Europe! My only issue is “my world” that song if really terrible, but apart from that entry most of the songs are very good. Will any other national selection top this?

Not my favorite, but the most Eurovision-friendly of the entries. I could see it doing well in the contest, provided it doesn’t sound too similar to the other entries.

Finally, this was dragging too much over days and days. Couldn’t they just announce the 18 participants just like some other countries? I’m glad those unnecessary announcements about France are finally over, hope they won’t publish the songs one by one. It’s getting really annoying!

It’s called promotion… Yes annoying, but no way near as annoying as Bulgaria.

I realise this is crazy to do this based on 20 second snippets but here goes, for the final (an amazing final): Lisandro Cuxi, Nassi, Masoe, Madame Monsieur, Louka, June the girl, Emmy Liyana, IGIT, and one of Enea, Sarah or Noée

So, I’ve made up my mind and my favourites are: Malo, Igit, Nassi and… This guy! I’ve read these comments about how he’s kinda hated in France, but I can’t judge on that…So ,from what I’m hearing, this is a pretty good song! I hope one of my favourites wins, but almost everybody on this selection would have a Chance to enter the top 10. Well done, France.

I’m French and I didn’t know he was hated :O I wonder if you’re right !
But for me I didn’t like his first song but this one is in my top 5 for sure !

Well, some People here in the comment section mentioned it, but I don’t know. Why would we care about it anyway? It’s a song contest, that’s what really matters, right? 😀

I don’t understand why French don’t seem to like him. This snipet smells victory and I would be so hyped if my own country had an entry like that. Ofc we need the full version but it’s already a hit to me. Maybe French people are just being French ? (lol I’m jking) From my pov France has two options : going full eurovision and choose a pop hit such as Lisandro’s or Nassi’s or go the opposite with a total outsider-like song such as Madame Monsieur (electro touch that can make its effect) or Noée (for the French touch… Read more »

In France, some people are very jealous and like to criticize even without arguments. They don ‘t like winners, they don’t like people who make money, they don’t like mainstream music … For example, if the winning song is in French, they will say “But you have to sing in English to win Eurovision!” But if the winning song has lyrics in English, they will say “It’s a shame! We’re French! Let’s sing in French!” Whether you choose a well-known artist (Patricia Kass), a young talent (Amir) or something totally unexpected (Sébastien Tellier), they are not happy anyway. Whatever the… Read more »

Read more »

Parts of this sounded like you were describing Germans. (Reading fans’ comments on Facebook, there are lots of pessimists and grumpy people who seem to not be able to support their country at the ESC. Basically there’s always something to nag about. xD)

I think that the delegation had an elegant idea, because his name was revealed last, which allowed for a few days to shed light on the other contestants (for some less known than him, because for me all the ex of The Voice, winners or not have the same notoriety.) I think that during the semi the professional jury will be impartial and will vote really according to the quality of the songs. On the other hand, if Lisandro go to the “Destination Eurovison” final, it’s certain that he has a very important fanbase who will vote for him when… Read more »

If he was anyone else, every French would scream for a victory. But because he is Lisandro and the Voice winner, the haters are back.
This is BY FAR the best entry and should be a winner potential in ESC

Yawn. Stop calling everyone a hater just because they have a different opinion. That aint an argument. We can’t judge him either positively or negatively before we hear the song.

No he’s right I dont know if you’re French but I am.
Yes Lisandro have people who don’t like him as a person because he won The Voice. It”s normal…
Nevertheless I find the song incredible even if I didn’t like his first single !

This is the French music we are used to hear outside ESC. This is the French music we need to hear inside the ESC.
Blood will flow in the national final and it will be one big massacre. It’s almost like the Hunger Games or in this case: Les Jeux de la Faim

I am not gonna lie you guys, I wasnt feeling the first snippets that got released, but with every day the french selection got better and better and now I am super mad that only ONE of these masterpieces will represent France.

I love Nassi, Lisandro, Emmy and Masoe. I am so pumbed now, definitely got affected with all the hype. Definitely France will make a Top from what it looks like now. So strong! 🙂 Other countries like Germany should take this selection as an example.

If this one wins it will probably finish somewhere like « requiem » …. def. not a winner material here … hope France will be more strategic and sent « Lisboa Jérusalem » or « Mercy » to improve their last rank….

I personnaly think Mercy will reach top 10 yes, it’s sophisticated electro-pop with a powerful story and yet it still feels French which is a plus.

I hate this guy, he’s so full of himself. But this song is GOLD. It reminds me of old school Justin Timberlake or The Script. It can win Eurovision. But then I would have preferred anyone to sing this song but him!

Sounds promising. Lisandro is such a good singer and performer. I’ve been watching him on the Voice. Definitely another good songs from France.
We now have all the semi finalists of Destination Eurovision! I’m so excited! So many good songs, talented artists, diversity.

Hate this guy!
LOVE THIS SONG!
This reminds me of old school Justin Timerlake RnB, or Hall of Fame by The Script.
This genre has never really been brought to ESC so I think it can win.
But I reckon if anyone else had sung this song I would have probably jumped off the roof!
