The second edition of Depi Evratesil is upon us, with 20 hopefuls vying for the chance to represent Armenia in Lisbon. Among the competing acts are Genealogy alum Tamar Kaprelian and Depi Evratesil 2017 fan favourite Asmik Shiroyan. However, drag queen and blogger Kamil has issued a warning to her fellow competitors — she’s here to win!

Speaking in an interview on the television programme Lav Ereko, Kamil was not afraid to trash talk her fellow competitors. She told the hosts that her opponents stand no chance of beating her. When asked about their chances, she responded by saying that she could not picture the words ‘other competitors’ and ‘chances’ in the same sentence. She warns her fellow competitors to get ready.

You can watch the full interview in Armenian from 3:27 below.

Kamil also dropped some interesting information about her Eurovision entry. She revealed that her song will be in Spanish and confirmed that she will be receiving 12 points from Spain. This is despite the fact that she doesn’t speak Spanish, revealing that “I only think in Spanish”. She also confirmed that the song will be about going to Puerto Rico, laying on the beach and drinking mojitos. She explained that the song celebrates all of her favourite things — sun, sand, alcohol and Ricky Martin.

The hosts asked a confident Kamil how she would feel if she didn’t win the ticket to Eurovision 2018. Kamil revealed that if she lost Depi Evratesil, she would be very happy because many people will likely be very happy that she lost.

Kamil is originally a blogger with many videos on YouTube and Armenian television. She has recently expanded her repertoire into singing, partnering with Armenian singer Lilit Hovhannisyan for a fun and upbeat duet “Chkites Honqerd” (“Don’t frown”).

We are falling in love with Kamil’s big personality and if she does win as she predicts, we can’t wait to see her personality shine in Lisbon. She would certainly be a bold choice for Armenia and sending a song in a language other than English or Armenian would be a first for the country.

What do you think of Kamil’s bold statements? Should Armenia send Kamil to Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

Have not heard the song. Will say that a drag act at Eurovision is only as good as their song. Conchita won not just for her unique presentation, but because she had a strong voice and a very good song. Verka earned a high position (although let’s face it, she’d never have won) because she put on a good show and had a catchy song. Drag acts from countries like Slovenia in 2002, Norway in 1986, and Denmark in 2007 sunk like stones because the songs sucked. If the song’s good, brilliant, send her. If the song blows, don’t. In… Read more »

S/He’s not receiving anything from Spain, sorry! These “Despacito” copycats should stop. It’s awful to hear them, the lyrics doesn’t make sense most of the time and the accent is weird. I’m talking about Jenny Mai, but this entry would be the same, I suppose.

I don’t like drag acts, neither as a novelty act. That time at Eurovision has gone. I hope it doesn’t happen like with Lithuania last year. Anyway, I’m happy with Kamil being happy if I’m happy when s/he doesn’t win Depi Evratesil!

It’s really funny ’cause everybody takes his words too seriously. He’s a famous actor and comedian and the character of Kamil was created during one of the Armenian comedy shows. He’s here to entertain people and share positive energy 😀 And about Aram Mp3’s attitude during this show. Do you even realize that he and Garik (writer of Not Alone) are also comedians and probably friends with Arsen (Kamil)? It’s just a show… take it easy :)))

We all know what an accepting and tolerating Country Armenia is. If this would be an actual gay man or something nobody would even think about sending him. But it’s just a comedian dressed as a woman, so I guess it’s okay for these homophobes, right? Can anybody from Armenia tell me if homophobia is as common there as I think?

You’re right, this man isn’t positioning himself as homosexual (maybe he’s gay, idk). There is small amount people in Armenia, that publicly positioning themselves as homosexuals, so yes, we can be defined as homophobic society. But our elites (politics and intelligence) are, in the main, not homophobic. They’re try to fix situation to be a part of European society.

Armenia is not an homophobic country, time has changed and people started changing too.Now here in Armenia , LGBT people can feel confortable as much as in europe and america.Every country like Armenia has small comunities of homophobia but that is not a reason to call that country a homophobic. Please don’t misundertand people. And about Kamil she es not gay she es transsexual and whole Armenia knows that , and no one is going to kill her bcz thats ok.

Really? Arsen Grigoryan said that he is a transsexual?

We are not talking about role, we are talking about actor. Don’t spread misinformation, please. He’s not positioning himself as gay or trans.

transgender/transsexual is something different than dressing up like a woman… If you’re transgender, you always felt like you’re born in the wrong body and you’ll eventually do ”the op” and take the long journey of transforming yourself into that gender you identify with. But this guy is just a transvestite. They are men, who kinda dress as a woman, but they exaggerate it and put far too much make-up on and dress over the top. They do it fully for show reasons. They don’t feel like women, they just sometimes play this role. And that is clearly the case here…… Read more »

@Weibrot – Armenia is a conservative country. In order to understand their conservatism, you have to study their history and how they’ve had to endure being a Christian minority ruled by Muslims for centuries and had to struggle to keep their identity. They are also the first Christian country. But, that doesn’t mean that the people in Armenia hate or are intolerant of gays. Those are two different things and you’re confusing the two.

“Kitel” means “to frown”, so we can translate “chkites honqerd” as “don’t frown” or “don’t be sad”.

Oh my , this act is so gunny and entertaining but she is singing awfully and she is not a Serduchka . She is a funny act and Armenians liker her only for her humor. I mean Sevak , Hasmik or Tamar and may even Mher Armenia are the most beloved artists right now by Armenian public as a singer not just an act .

Well, sadly Armenia is one of the most homophobic countries in Europe. They are actually worse than Russia. But the saddest part is that most of their people supports the homophobia and they are doing their best to hide it from the foreign eyes. There’s no way they can send him to ESC (not that I’m saying he deserves it, I’m sure there will be better acts to choose from).

A drag queen is a person, usually male, who dresses in clothing of the opposite sex and often acts with exaggerated femininity and in feminine gender roles which is for the purpose of entertainment or fashion. Often, they will exaggerate certain characteristics such as make-up and eyelashes for comic, dramatic, or satirical effect. While drag is associated with gay men, there are drag artists of all sexualities.

It will be entertaining for a NF, but I doubt Armenia will ever send something like this to ESC. Boom Boom Chaka Chaka was tragic enough.

Well according to the stats their public opinion on homosexuality is the worst in Europe, so I think they’re doing what most homophobic countries do–“tolerate” drag queens for entertainment purposes only.

Vocabular definition of Drag Queens :
A drag queen is a person, usually male, who dresses in clothing of the opposite sex and often acts with exaggerated femininity and in feminine gender roles which is for the purpose of entertainment or fashion.”
Do Drag Queens in your country or anythere else do something out of purpose of fashion and entertainment? Do they become presidents or ministers of health?

Yeah, but Merkel doesn’t represent whole Germany… Germany is very tolerate, I think 80% in Germany aprove same sex marriage, which is pretty good when you have in mind how many old people we have in Germany. I’m living in the former DDR of Germany, which has the Reputation of being far off and being less accepting when it’s about homosexuals or foreign People and I still don’t know anyone in personal at my school, that is against gays. So we don’t really care if Merkel doesn’t want gays to marry.

I watched the video of Kamil being interviewed in Aram Mp3′ show, and I have to say Aram MP3 comes across as such a douchy guy. I remember he didin’t even care watching Egene during her perfomances in Depi Evratesil last year. So rude.
He likes to run his mouth, so he will have lots to say if Kamil (though a novelty act) makes it far in the competition.

“Kitel” means “to frown”, so we can translate “chkites honqerd” as “don’t frown” or “don’t be sad”. Change translation “You Don’t Know Your Eyebrows”.

“You don’t know” is “ch-G-ites”, but not “ch-K-ites”.
