From more than 400 entries, the Czech Republic has chosen just six finalists for Eurovision Song CZ — its national selection for Eurovision 2018. The acts span the musical spectrum from old school rock to mysterious pop balladry to R&B funk.

Czech broadcaster CT is keeping it simple and conducting the contest entirely online, with no live television broadcast. But the public will definitely play a part, as the voting results will be determined by a 50-50 televote-jury split.

Voting has been open since January 8. It’s taking place on the Eurovision app and is free of charge. And while everyone can vote from anywhere in the world, only votes from users within the Czech Republic will count toward the result. The international jury will submit their scores on January 22.  Just one week later — on January 29 — CT will reveal the winner.

As you wait for the official results, why not have a listen and let us know your favourites? You can watch the lyric videos below. Then vote in our poll. As always, you can vote for as many acts as you like, but you can only vote once, so make it count. Be sure to click the box next to each act you want to support before pressing submit.

Doctor Victor – “Stand Up”

Debbi — “High On Love”

Eddie Stoilow — “We Rule This World”

Eva Buresova — “Fly”

Mikolas Josef — “Lie To Me”

Pavel Callta — “Never Forget”

Who is your favourite in Eurovision Song CZ?

A disappointing selection. Kind of like Malta, most of the songs didn’t stand out except for one. For the Czech Republic its Lie to Me. It’s different in this selection and, even though, it has that same feel as Talk Dirty to Me by Jason Derulo, I think this is Czech’s best chance of making the final. It has that slight jazz element that I love.

Overall it’s fine here. It’s between Eddie, Debbie and Mikolas for me.

I mostly tend to Eddie’s WRTW, but I also see how it oozes too calmness which may not be right feature to win selection. Debbie is fine but her song doesn’t leave much after it’s gone. Mikolas, having big chances here, has got a bop with choreo and sass, but I sense lack of better bridge before final part.
I would add Fly as well if I wouldn’t be little tired of vocal in the end.

For now, I’m routing for “High on love”, “Fly” and “Lie to me”.

Fly has all the atmosphere and production but sounds very much like Katy Perry’s “Rise”. Also I was let down by it; it doesn’t seem to go anywhere. It builds to nothing.

I’m still going for “Lie to Me”. It’s instantly catchy and the lyrics will change of course for that second crass verse. Helps he’s very attractive

High on Love is the best song by far. I would love to see this kind of track at Eurovision.

Lie to Me reminds me very much of Talk Dirty to Me by Jason Derulo. It’s catchy but the lyrics are too crass for my liking.

Lie To Me is clearly a very divisive song. However, it draws attention, which is ultimately a good thing for ESC. Some will love it and will passionately vote for it. Others will passionately hate it, but there are no negative points televote-wise. I would expect it to do great in televote and rock-bottom with juries, finally scoring a borderline qualification and subsequently, around 15th place at GF. That would be a Czech record, though, so a good thing.

High On Love all the way! This is the kind of song Czechia needs to stand out in ESC, not the most overrated song of the season, Lie To Me! Something happy with great lyrics, and with some What’s The Pressure and Jess Glynne vibes that could definitely be a Top 10 contender like the other song was. Let’s be honest, no matter how appealing Lie To Me might be as a modern pop song, we already have plenty of better examples in other national finals like Serena’s Safari (Romania) and Alejandro Reyes’ Compass (Switzerland). If Czech Republic wants to… Read more »

Lie to Me is my guilty pleasure and could be a more modern Euroclub classic in 5 years but it will tank in Lisbon. It won’t translate well live. Czechia struggles with the televote and unless it’s both fun and professional this would tank with the jury. Still it’s a good song to groove to.

I went on the Eurovision app to vote for Mikolas, but Eurovision Song CZ section had the German selection from 2017s pictures and still had vote already marked and I couldn’t change it. 🙁
The videos and names are right, but the pictures are wrong and my vote from last year is stuck!

Do you not think Nicolas Josef’s song is a bit sexist and dated in the lyric department. Nice sound by total turn off with what comes out of his mouth lyrically. Its like a leaching old man “By the way she moves she got me making a puddle” , “Her skirt goes up like Marilyn Monroe”

This happens all the time. Lisa Ajax dropped the F Bomb many times at last years Melodifestivalen…

And if were complaining about voting on songs that wouldn’t be the same at Eurovision then we’d have to complain about every song that is over 3 minutes when selected. That means nearly every song from Italy and Albania, including ‘Mall’. Also songs that introduce English language at some point, so Alma from last year is also guilty.

A lot of this topic is just semantics.

1) Lie to Me is a really fun track, someone drew a comparison to Liam Payne which I agree with, but I think it’s a great thing, it really works on this track. This would be a great one to stage 2) Fly is probably the best song, but I was not feeling Eva’s vocals. The three women Czech Rep. sent in the last three years is of a high standard, not sure I want her as a successor. But I can’t deny her song is atmospheric and definitely generates a reaction. 3) High On Love, I also wouldn’t mind… Read more »

Eva has my favourite song but Pavel would do best at Eurovision. It’ll get loads of points from jury like “Don’t Come Easy” and if people get behind it like they did with Roman Lob or Tom Dice then it’s going to assure a top 10 placing

I truly cannot understand how can you like Lie To Me, I mean, it’s EXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS!!!!!
The NF isn’t great, as the one who is decent is Eva Bureshová and the song is a bit boring.
Shame on you, Czechia.

Sunstroke project had prior eurovision fame at the meme level, humorous themes in their music, and actual singing throughout the song. 3 things that aren’t present here. A synthesized sax loop is the only thing that would remotely link this song to “Hey Mamma”

I think Lie to Me is like 100x better than “Hey Mamma” – that was so cheap for me, while Lie to Me is not even tho it’s not the most original song, and even if the vocals will not be the best this is a BOP like Margaret’s “Cool Me Down”. And I’m one of the rare ones who think not why you like this, but why you hate this?

I think Mikolas would be the best choice for Czech Republic. I’m so tired of Czech Republic sending female artists with ballads so Mikolas Josef with “Lie To Me” would be a really nice change for that.

Hmmm. Not a bad selection but I don’t think there’s a winner in here. Most of the songs are decent and most of the instrumentals in the songs are actually pretty great. I have a problem though. It’s the lyrics. I know that people from the Czech Republic may not have the best English but some of these lyrics are either weird, cringy or grammatically incorrect. They should at least proof check it with someone who can speak English fluently. The good news is however most people only listen to a song once and remember the chorus so I guess… Read more »

“Lie to me”??

Really? You think that’s “funny” or “clever” – is that from your position of male privilege?

Rose McGowan will be seething – it’s like #MeToo and #TimesUp have never happened.

It – and in turn YOU appall me!

I interpret the song as in she cheated on him but he likes her body so much that he is willing to let it go, aka he wants her to “lie to him” so that he can continue to be with her…
I wouldn’t say her cheating on him is “male privilege” but maybe you are just joking I truly don’t know.

I’m really impressed by this selection! I’m just a little gutted we won’t get an awesome televised national final! Czech’s should take note that how the songs sound live is very important so it’s a shame they’re skimming over that issue with studio tracks only.
I’d be happy with a number of these! If Lie To Me wins I’m glad we’ve got a decent bop in the main ESC songs for 2018 already.

I agree. Eurovision has a reputation for meaning 10, 20 years behind. It doesn’t help when the only songs submitted are old fashioned.

If Mikolas doesn’t win, then everyone who voted against him can’t complain about Eurovision being outdated and a laughing stock of the Music Industry.

Tbh I don’t see a winner here, but the line-up it’s decent. I still prefer Switzerland.

This is my top 6 (my thoughts on this songs are posted in the songs reveal topic):

1. Eva Buresova – Fly (7.5/10)
2. Eddie Stoilow – We Rule This World (7/10)
3. Pavel Callta – Never Forget (6.75/10)
4. Debbi – High on Love (6.25/10)
5. Mikolas Josef – Lie to Me (6/10)
6. Doctor Victor – StandUp (5/10)

Eva could make Czechia qualify and even take a top 15 placing, depending on the other contestants.

For me the songs that I think have the best potential to do great at Eurovision are ‘Lie To Me’ and ‘Fly’ but who I think will get to Eurovision representing their country, I think it’ll be Eva Buresova for sure. Her song gives me that same vibe Aminata gave me with her song in 2015. I honestly don’t get the hype for Mikolas. He looks creepy, the song is literally a copy of something Liam Payne would do. It’s generic, chorus is made only by that melody. I couldn’t even finish the whole song till the end if I’m being honest here. His hand gestures and faces he makes in the music video (not the lyrics video) remind me of Jüri from Estonia in 2016. The song goes nowhere, it’s monotone, generic and bland like every other song you could hear on the radio. I quite enjoyed Debbi’s “High On Love” I love that kind… Read more »

I voted yesterday and gave my vote to Mikolas – it’s incredibly catchy song, but I’m afraid that the jury will rather vote for Eva – not that it’s a terrible song (even though the lyrics aren’t great – lyrics to Lie To Me aren’t the best either), but I think that we need a change.

Only 6 entries but all have quality
Nicolas Josef’s song has initial impact that all successful Eurovision songs require.( we fans maybe in a bubble but most viewers will only see and hear the songs once) and this song WILL have impact
The other song which also appeals significantly is Debbi’s…..either of these 2 win and I’ll be happy for the Czech Republic
