Entries for the 2018 Ukraine national selection closed yesterday. And broadcaster STB has wasted no time in revealing the 18 participating acts who will battle it out in the Vidbir semi-finals. And as expected, there are a few familiar faces on the list.

Returning to the contest will be 2017 runner-up Tayanna. Last year her emotional ballad and jury favorite “I Love You” narrowly missed out winning on a tiebreak. Tayanna earlier held a public vote to select her song for Vidbir, but she will reportedly instead enter an entirely new track.

Also returning is X Factor winner Melovin. He placed third last year and also topped the televote with his track “Wonder”. The popular singer and novelty contact lens fan will reportedly perform the song “Under the Ladder”.

Illaria placed fourth last year with her dreamy love song “Thank You For My Way”.  She is another returning act, perhaps hoping to better her 2017 result.

The electro-pop group Kadnay narrowly missed out making the grand final last year with their song “Freedom In My Mind” and avant-garde art-pop group Pur:Pur placed fourth in 2016 with “We Do Change”. They are both back for another shot.

Ukraine’s national selection Vidbir 2018 – participating acts

  • Constantine
  • Dilemma
  • Illaria
  • Ingret Kostenko
  • Julinoza
  • Kadnay
  • Kazka
  • Kozak System
  • Laud
  • Melovin
  • Mountain Breeze
  • Pur: Pur
  • Serhii Babkin
  • Tayanna
  • The Erised
  • The Vyo
  • Vil’na
  • Yurcash

On January 19, the broadcaster will hold the running-order draw, to determine the order the acts will perform in the semi-finals.

The 18 acts will battle it out in two semi-finals on 10 and 17 February. The six qualifying acts will go on to the grand final on 24 February.

They will face the judging panel of JamalaAndriy “Verka Serduchka” Danylko and music producer Eugene Filatov, along with a public televote.

What do you think of these acts? Who would you like to see represent Ukraine in Lisbon? Share your thoughts below!

Have you heard Tayanna’s song “Lelya” ? It is SOOOOOO GOOD. I need to see William and Deban faces while reacting to it !

Cape Cod once had a wacky bop collab with Constantine, I’d love them to make it to Vidbir once too with cool vocalist.

The Ukrainian television has published a photo with Vil’na, the girl immediately denied her presence to the selection on her instagram’s profile, saying that she did not present the song… immediately the photo has changed, they have inserted another singer, she is Eria (Irina Vasilenko), the blond girl in the 18th pic

P:P, Kadnay, The Erised – hopefully they’ll be all with strong songs. Still pitiful about Kadnay missing out last year – except of outfits, they were finessin.

Melovin by song somehow sounds better for me than last time. Last time he had a cape clash with Tayanna, what now? 🙂

I urge everyone to check out Ingret Kostenko on YouTube. She came in second place on The Voice of Ukraine, and was SPECTACULAR. She’s unique and her visuals are always captivating. She’s my choice for Ukraine this year, and I hope she will gain a bigger following now that she’s officially entering. Ahhhhh, she’s been my number one choice to enter Vidbir since I saw her audition, I’m so excited!

I want to support Melovin but his songs keep leaving me feeling unfinished. Last year’s song never really took off, as if something was set to happen in the song but it never really delivers.

His new song slightly does but I’m sure he could’ve done more.

Have to wait and see what Tayanna comes up with, but it’s a pity “Kvitka” won’t be the entry since it would be great, however anything could be better than the dreadful “I Love You”.

Kazka’s entry “Dyva” is great and if Illaria sends something more common to her own style, she’d be a hot contender for victory.

Melovin was crap last time, badly produced teen-idol wannabe “cool”, have to wait to see if he’s equally crap this time.

Curious about Kozak System and Dilemma too.

Kazka or Illaria for me tbh. Listen to “Dyva” by Kazka and tell me that’s not a potential Eurovision winner. I think Illaria could finish top 10 (or higher) with something like “Svit nalezhyt meni” (her newest single), I hope she doesn’t get underrated again.

I wonder about Constantin’s song, his album was in top albums 2017.
Interesting to hear Serhii Babkin’s, I can’t imagine him at Eurovision…
Looking forward to Kadnay/
Melovin’s song is worse than his previous try.

“UKRAINE’S NATIONAL SELECTION BIDVIR 2018”
It’s “VIDBIR” 😉

Also MELOVIN and TAYANNA are not the most promising candidates this year.

I think Yurcash desverves a mention too! Not so well known based on recent attempts. But In 2005, they came 3rd in their NF with a song called “Chas prislouv” (or something like that 😉 ). It was a brilliant punkrock song. Which became a CLASSIC in Ukraine, well deserved! 🙂 So, if they come up with something as good….I REALLY look forward to it. I will probably love it. AND more importantly, I think they definately are hot candidates to win then 🙂 Many good songs in their lineup last year. AND a great winner! I hope the same… Read more »

Oh cool, there are 16 other artists in this. Judging by the fandom, it’s a fight between Tayanna and Melovin and so I’m instantly in favour of any of the other 16.

Looking forward for Tayanna’s new entry, however I loved Kvitka and Sila. She could have sung Sila, if it wasn’t released before the 1st September as well.

Melovin’s song sounds ok, but it seems like it’s worse than last year’s entry.

Melovin, all the way! His song last year was very good, this year his song is amazing! Unfortunately for Tayanna, her song in 2017 was a masterpiece, all her songs this year are weak… My bet is on Melovin!

About Tayanna I think the oppsoite. I Love You was maybe the song I liked the last of the entire 2017 NF season (maybe apart from My Little World from Finland). But this year, her song is OK 🙂

You mean those 4 songs?! If you mean so, she won’t participate with any of the songs. She recored a new entry, which is probably called Tick Tock.
