Back in December RTVSLO confirmed 16 acts for Slovenia’s national selection show EMA 2018 (Evrovizijska Melodija), including several familiar faces. And today the broadcaster has announced the dates for this year’s competition.

Instead of the two semi-finals like last year, there will only be one semi-final featuring all 16 participants.

This will take place on February 17. Then the qualifiers will compete in the final a week later on February 24.

Both shows will be hosted by the stand-up comedian Vid Valic.

EMA 2018 – Confirmed semi-finalists

  • Anabel – “Pozitiva”
  • BQL – “Ptica”
  • Gregor Ravnik – “Zdaj je cas”
  • INA SHAI – “V nebo”
  • Indigo – “Vesna”
  • KiNG FOO – “Zive sanje”
  • Lara Kadis – “Zdaj sem tu”
  • Lea Sirk – “Cirque”
  • ManuElla – “Dan potem”
  • Marina Martensson – “Blizu”
  • MILA – “Svoboda”
  • Nika Zorjan – “Uspavanka”
  • Nuska Drasck – “Ne zapusti me zdaj”
  • ORTER – “Tisoc let”
  • Proper – “Ukraden cvet”
  • Tanja Ribic – “Ljudje”

Only eight acts will advance to the final, which will be decided using a 50/50 voting combination. A six-member jury panel will select their four qualifiers and consists of members from the radio and television industry, singers, composers and OGAE Slovenia. An international panel will form the sixth jury. Then the televoting public will decide the other four qualifiers.

For the final itself, the winner will be decided by 50% televoting, combined with the other 50% from the six juries.

Slovenia will be performing somewhere in the second half of the Second Semi-Final.

Y’all should wait until you hear the other songs before you go supporting BQL. Besides, their performance last year was not great, and that song was pretty overrated.

They will compete in the 2nd SF, so better present something decent. Otherwise…buh-bye.

BQL for the win! Hope their song is just like 2017 or even better! It’s a great choice for Slovenia!

They’re 100% sending BQL solely because they were wronged last year. I hope their song is better than the others, otherwise it’ll be yet another injustice.

It’ll be just like in Denmark last year – they sent Anja Nissen just because she had lost to those three guys previous year. Either that, or because Anja has very… big… er… voice, voice I mean.

Or maybe it was actually the song, dunno, I preferred the other two superfinalists.

Anyways, after Slovenia announced that they won’t enforce the language restriction at the final I have kinda lost interest in their selection. Seems that this BQL excitation is a reason to have even less interest in Žižekland. I hate NFs that are foregone conclusion.

BQL definitely. They’re song last year was incredible and I think they’ll be good this year too!

Apparently BQL is the way to go here. Considering how stacked semi-final 2 is and Slovenia’s spotty track record in recent years, they need a killer, and BQL just might be the trick.

I just think BQL has to win this. Everybody wanted them to go… Their song was so good. I still think it was one of the biggest crimes in 2017 that they weren’t send. I hope their song is as good as the last one!!
