Hej, Göteborg! Melodifestivalen 2018 touches down in the city that hosted the 1985 Eurovision contest, and a familiar sight on the Melfest tour: Gothenburg. Seven more acts will compete this week, with hopes of going straight to the final in Stockholm – or at least, Andra Chansen.

After last week’s start — seen by some as being slightly underwhelming — will the acts from the second heat cause more excitement?

Returning acts include Samir & Viktor, back for their third Melfest attempt. Mimi Werner is also back, after finishing 5th in her heat in 2016. There’s also the return of Margaret — who switches selections from Poland to Sweden.

Swedish Idol champion LIAMOO makes his Melodifestivalen debut. P4 Nästa 2017 winner, Stiko per Larsson, also takes the traditional spot for that contest’s winner.

The field is rounded off by Melodifestivalen newcomer, Ida Redig, and the show’s host in 2003, Jonas Gardell. But which of the acts excites you most? You can let us know now in our poll. You can find more info on all the songs below, then find our poll:

We’ll close the poll on Thursday morning and reveal results then, ahead of the release of the snippets and rehearsal clips. Let us know who you voted for in the comments below as well, and tell us who you think will make it to the final in Stockholm!

Well…the fact that Jonas has 0% for everything at least has me curious.
But that probably just means it will be a quiet ballad.

I heard it is totally minimalist. He’s stripping back the music, dancing, singing everything. There is going to be breathing.

Liamoo and Samir&Viktor may get through on name alone…not so sure about Margaret and the others, tbh. Guess we’ll have to wait till the rehearsal clips on Thursday!

Lol Jonas gardell has tempo as 0% so means the song is what? One stretched out long note?

I think positions 1,4,6,7 are fighting for direct to final positions
And places 1,2,4,5,6 are for the ‘Andra Chansen’ spots depending on songs!
So liamoo is already in final!
And Jonas seems to be out.

LIAMOO will definitely qualify for the grand finals. I feel like Margaret will be in Andra Chansen. Samir and Viktor might be third time lucky this time if their song entry isn’t novelty.

I’m excited for Liamoo. I think I’m going to like it. I’m also looking forward to listen to “In my Cabana” live. I don’t know how Margaret is going to sing it live, as “Cool Me Down” was a huge let down because of her poor vocals.

They really need this semi-final to be good because the first one was not. This one looks a whole lot more promising but the songwriting needs to be of a much higher standard. Obviously Liamoo has all of the tools…hopefully he has a halfway decent song to go with it.

Marge, of course. What’s so special about the guy with the cow noise name, by the way?

He is a recent talent show winner and people will vote for him even if he sang a song duller than Charlotte perreli last year.

Margaret has already won.

Constantly 1st in every single poll held so far.

If she somehow flops in Semi, it will be entirely because of her not being Swedish. But I don’t expect the Swedish people to be that narrow-minded to reject an artist for this kind of reasons.

Well, winning polls doesn’t guarantee victory, she won every poll in 2016 by far as well xD

Being first in polls means nothing. She was first in polls to win in Poland in 2016 and people expected her to win big. And look what happened.
What might make her flop is a: not being good live, (b) people have already forgotten about her, (C)Cool Me Down wasn’t actually that big of a hit and (D) not having strong songs.

She only won these polls because most of the voters are ESC fans who watched the Poland NF. In Sweden the hot favorite is LIAMOO because he won Swedish Idol just like Lisa Ajax did(who qualified directly to the finals on her Melfest debut in 2016).

This poll is voted on by less than 5% people who are swedes whereas on Saturday it’s 100% swedes …. so it’s what they think that counts.

Jonas Gardell: 0% tempo, 0% show, 0% humor, 0% show. What’s that going to be? three minutes of total silence?

Gardell describes his song as follows:
“My song is for real. It’s a story which I don’t think is for everybody, but for those who needs it I think it can change someone’s life. I hope the song can fulfill that purpose. I think of it as a hymn.”

Everybody claims their song is true and genuine. I don’t know what’s real and what’s not anymore. 🙁

Yah, she may meet the fate of all the foreigners who’ve sung in Sweden in the last few years: Krista and Kamferdrops to name a few! Don’t hold your breath, Marge fans! (You’ve to wonder about her live vocals, too.) 😉

I doubt she’ll win as a non-Swede, but we can still enjoy the performance ??

I’ll assume your talking about this semi now. There’s a definite possibility that Swedish Poles could sway the result slightly, as long as the song is good. There are about 80k of them living in Sweden, perhaps 20-30k will watch, and sometimes a couple of thousand voters can be the difference between DQ/AC/DTF. In the past Polish-Swedes Rolinski and Saucedo have done fairly well. In fact Danny Saucedo holds the record for number of votes in a semi without app by a huge margin. (Amazing got 223k votes in 2012.) But then again, the 153k large Finnish diaspora in Sweden… Read more »

Did you listen to Emina Jahovic’s last album Dalje? Its effing amazing! But I don’t understand that Druga song would be an ESC winner easily. But why doesnt she participate for Serbian in contest with a song like Druga? Can somebody from Serbia explain me that?
