From just over 200 entries, only 12 songs have made it through to Iceland’s national final, Söngvakeppnin 2018. The songs were revealed a little over a week ago and now RÚV – Iceland’s national broadcaster – has revealed the line-up and running order for each semi-final.
Update: RÚV has made a change in the semifinals and swapped two songs. Due to Guðmundur’s schedule as a professional football player in Sweden, his song “Litir” will compete in the first semifinal instead of Þórir and Gyða’s song “Brosa”, which will now compete in the second semifinal.
So we have made a new poll and ask you guys to vote again about who you think should qualify to the final. It’s only fair, right?
The first semi-final will take place February 10. Six acts will compete for three spots in the final, which takes place in Laugardalshöllin on March 3.
With the running order set, we want to know: who do you think should win the semi-final? And which of the acts should go on to the final. You can have your say in our poll!
The competing songs for Söngvakeppnin have been released both in Icelandic and in English. As they will be sung in Icelandic in the semi-finals, we’re only showing the Icelandic versions for this poll. Of course, you can listen to the English versions here (where available).
Söngvakeppnin 2018: First Semi-Final
Ari Ólafsson – “Heim”
Fókus – “Aldrei gefast upp”
Þórunn Antonía – “Ég mun skína”
Guðmundur Þórarinsson – “Litir”
Tómas Helgi Wehmeier & Sólborg Guðbrandsdóttir – “Ég og þú”
Heimilistónar – “Kúst og Fæjó”
Those are your six — now, go vote in our poll below! As usual, you can choose as many of the acts as you’d like. But you can only vote ONCE, so make sure that it counts. We’ll reveal the results as we get nearer the semi-final on Saturday.
[polldaddy poll=9934092]Make sure to let us know in the comments section who you have voted for as well, and who you think are the three that will make it through.
Ari Ólafsson with Heim should be the one to win this battle. Resent years I have been fond of disco pop up beat acts with a dash of drama but this year I love this song with the dash of drama. Ari has a great voice and I have seen him performing live. He is great!

My qualifiers:
1. Guðmundur Þórarinsson – “Litir”
2. Fókus hópurinn – “Aldrei gefast upp”
3. Tómas Helgi & Sólborg – “Ég og þú”/ Ari Ólafsson – “Heim”
Aldrei gefast upp, Litir and Kúst og fæjó for me.
Tómas Helgi & Sólborg – “Ég og þú” is a masterpiece
The songs I want to qualify: Heim, Litir, Aldrei gefast upp
The songs I think will qualify: Kúst og fæjó, ég mun skína, Aldrei gefast upp.
Heimilistónar and Þórunn Antonía are pretty well known in Iceland so that’s why I think they will qualify, I hope neither of them will tho.
Here for You, which should also win the entire selection.
It’s not in this semi man
Then my vote goes to none of these.
I also would find it hard to pick one of these songs. Maybe Fókus at a push but still, there is nothing that good here.
It seems the non qualification streak has affected the quality of the entries.
Iceland usually have great selections but in 2015 and 2017 picked the wrong songs.
I doubt that they will qualify from their semi but I hope that Iceland will sing in Icelandic at least.
Oh come on, Svala`s “Paper” was so much better than any of these semi-final songs!! I still like it. Hope there will be better songs in Semi final 2…
Fókus hópurinn for the win and Þórunn Antonía is pretty nice as well.
The weakest line-up ever. Nothing memorable…. No final for Iceland this year, as well….
I like the top 2 in the polls but the qualification rate of my favorites in the semi has been very poor this NF season!
Well… What should I say? All of these are songs, that I stopped listening after 30 or 60 seconds. Nothing even remotely memorable.. The duet is nice.
