Poll results_ Rasmussen is your favourite to win DMGP 2018

It’s going to be a busy night, y’all. But for Denmark, it’s a very special one. They’re not only selecting their entry for Eurovision 2018, but they’ll also be the first Nordic country to do so.

And after last year’s qualification – after two years in a row left behind – it’s time to take things higher with Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2018.

Ahead of tonight’s result, we reveal the results of our readers poll. Throughout this week, we asked for your opinions on the ten songs Denmark has to offer.

After casting a total of 1,666 votes, we clearly have a winner! Rasmussen is the favourite to win the Danish ticket to Lisbon with 600 votes for his song “Higher Ground”. Will Rasmussen be able to obtain the highest result and go all aboard to Lisbon?

Rasmussen – “Higher Ground”

Following behind in second place, is Sannie and her song “Boys and Girls”. Sannie – better known as Whigfield – managed 268 votes (16.09% of total cast) in our poll. While she made us all dance along to the 1994 smash hit “Saturday Night”, she’s ready to make us wriggle again tonight.

She has recently revealed that her staging at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on Saturday will be very sensual and steamy! Are you ready?

Rounding out the top three is Rikke Ganer-Tolsøe with her song, “Holder fast i ingenting”. The 31-year-old singer took 143 votes, just 16 votes more than Annie Ritsmar’s “Starlight”. Rikke is the only singer who is competing with a fully Danish song but – as seen in our poll – diversity is rewarding and clearly stands out.

Rasmussen’s victory matches a similar result in our Wiwi Jury. “Higher Ground” featured in the top two of 8 out of the 12 jurors — surely all a good sign ahead of tonight’s show.

The grand final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is on from 20:00 CET tonight. The show will be held at Gigantum Arena in Aalborg, and will be hosted for a second year by Annette Heick and former Lighthouse X singer Johannes Nymark. You’ll be able to follow the show live here.

It’s my favorite BUT….a song in english? How patriotic…I dont get these countries that wanna act so proud of their nation, and yet do this…..sigh. hypocrites. The language kind of ruins it for me but the performance and song is freaking amazing so…

Sure, they kinda copied Portugals idea with ‘the Sea lady’ by Vania fernandes in ESC…but whatever…IF denmark picks this, they will easily reach top 3.

I liked Boys On Girls, poor vocals notwithstanding – but ultimately I was disappointed that Starlight did not win. For me, it was Denmark’s best chance of qualification. What a winsome performer, and I liked the Aud Wilken vibes…it definitely stood out as a live performance.

Higher Ground does absolutely nothing for me.

I would love to hear from some Danish voters as to why they didn’t vote enough for Karui to be in the top 3. It’s a big mystery to me.

Maybe “Music for the Road” is the safest choice for the bloodbath semifinal, but “Higher Ground” and “Starlight” tend to gather avid fanbases. I don’t know if Denmark will make to the final, but I’ll enjoy their entry no matter what happens tonight.

1) KARUI
2) Albin
3) Rasmussen

I’m fine with any of those 5 going to Lisbon. But it’s Denmark, so anything can happens.

I have no idea who will win this.
Karui has the best voice, Sannie has the best song, Rasmussen has the fan support- I feel like none of them will win, and my jaw will drop in the next hour or so.

As astonishing as this looks, here are my top 3 after all performances:
1. Karui “Signals”
2. Annie Ritsmar “Starlight”
3. Albin Fredy “Music for the road”

But I have no idea who will actually win. It’s Denmark, so flip a few coins. Probably Rasmussen or Sannie.

KARUI had the best vocal performance of the night and since I already considered her song the most sophisticated of the bunch (not very catchy, I’ll give you that), she would be my pick to Eurovision. Plus: camera loves her. I wouldn’t mind if they decide to go with Rikke. She sounded good and I still think that’s the most enjoyable song on the danish final. Watching it live. Ditte’s song is very Eurovision friendly, but it’s also very repetitive. I like what they did with the staging, but it wasn’t enough to improve my view on that one. Anna’s performance is the cutest thing we’ll see on this Eurovision season. I don’t know if it’s suited for the contest though, since it’s almost a lullaby. But I wish I had her voice, her pajamas and her shiny ukelele! Rasmussen really stands out on this final. I’m on Song 6 , the vocals are terrible , sorry but this is not a strong final . No final for Denmark in May ! Only the girl in the pyjamas can sing . Send her!

Watching DMGP. Higher ground is very musical theater, no way it will qualify from the semi if he wins.

It works, but with interruptions here.
It would be much easier if all the finals chose to use YouTube or another consistent streaming platform. Maybe one day.

Sannie was terrible at the dress rehearsel. Rasmussen should win by a mile. There where Rasmussen and 4 dansers. Two sails, alot of smoke and great drama. This was absolutely the best as expected.

Carlsens was also great but such a boring song, but it could win.

Actually, Rasmussen’s Higher Ground wins by a landslide. And there’s a good reason why.

Rasmussen is so damn cringeworthy and the backing vocal rule will make it terrible live at ESC. Sannie has the most radio friendly and catchy song, which appeals to voters. I have a feeling Rasmussen will go the way of Asanda where the live version lets down. Higher Ground is very pedestrian. I’ve heard it in so many adventure movies and it sounds like something you would hear in a queue for a viking ride at a theme park. The general public will laugh at the song and will not vote for it. Sannie will give the best result

“Higher Ground” is the best song by far.
“Unfound” is catchy & likable.
“Music For The Road” & “Riot” are pretty OK.
The rest 6 songs do not stand out.

I will be curious to hear Sannie’s live vocals. I can’t find even one YouTube video of “Whigfield” singing live, and I’m not sure she has ever done this before in all her career – I would not be surprised if she is awful, considering she was not even the real singer of Whigfield’s hits. Still, despite everything, I like her and this entry and would not be sorry if it won.

Whigfield has no place in ESC. Her place is in jail.

The jury is literally ESC fans by rule. Rasmussen will likely win if he brings on a good show even if he cant sing.

Last year Anja won just because jury gave all their 50 points to her.

Everybody says that about every song… You can’t predict what the juries will like and what not. It’s better to take a risk by sending Rasmussen then driving the middle of the road with a mediocore song like Sannie’s. Denmark can’t always send the most basic song.
